Then came to him the mother of Zebedee's children with her sons, worshipping him, and desiring a certain thing of him. And he said unto her, What wilt thou? She saith unto him, Grant that these my two sons may sit, the one on thy right hand, and the other on the left, in thy kingdom. But Jesus answered and said, Ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink of the cup that I shall drink of, and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? They say unto him, We are able. And he saith unto them, Ye shall drink indeed of my cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with: but to sit on my right hand, and on my left, is not mine to give, but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared of my Father.-Matthew 20:20-23***James and John were Israelites and fishermen. James and John worked with their father Zebedee and another Israelite, Simon Peter, until Jesus the Christ, the Son of God, told James, John and Simon Peter to follow him. When James and John's mother came to speak with Jesus, she wasn't seeking the miracle that Jairus the synagogue ruler sought for his 12-year-old daughter, or the healing that an official in Galilee sought for his son, or the healing another father sought for the boy who was possessed. Moreover, the mother of James and John was not seeking the healing that a Gentile woman sought for her daughter, nor was James and John's mother asking to be given the head of John the Baptist on a platter, as Herodias told her daughter to request from Herod Antipas the tetrarch, ruler of Galilee for the Roman Empire.-Genesis 11:26-35:29, 1 Chronicles 1:1-34, 2:1-17, 3:1-24 Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Acts 1:1-26
