Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred. And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple, And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.-Matthew 4:1-11***After Jesus the Christ, the Son of God, was conceived of the Holy Spirit in the womb of Mary, a virgin, Jesus was born into the tribe of Judah to Mary and her husband Joseph when Mary was a virgin. On the 8th day after Jesus was born to Joseph and Mary, Jesus was circumcised, according to the covenant of circumcision that the Lord God gave Joseph and Mary's ancestor Abraham (Abram the Hebrew), and Jesus was given the name Jesus, according to the words that the angel Gabriel spoke to Mary and the words spoken to Joseph by an angel of the Lord. During the 12th year after Jesus was born to Joseph and Mary, Jesus remained in Jerusalem, in Judea, after Joseph, Mary and the other Israelites in their group were returning to Nazareth, in Galilee, after the annual commemoration of the Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread.  Approximately 30 years after Jesus was born to Joseph and Mary, Jesus went to the Jordan River and was baptized by Mary's relative John the Baptist, from the tribe of Levi. Jesus having prayed, the heavens tearing open, the Holy Spirit descended as a dove and lit upon Jesus. The Lord God in heaven audibly acknowledged his Son Jesus, and the Holy Spirit led Jesus into the desert wilderness. Jesus fasted 40 days and nights and was tempted. Afterwards, Jesus was tended to by angels, and Jesus went to the area near John the Baptist, and John the Baptist proclaimed Jesus to be the Lamb of God taking away the sin of the world.
