The 40-year journey of the Israelites, the descendants

of Abraham (Abram the Hebrew) and Sarah (Sarai),

 Isaac and Rebekah, and Isaac and Rebekah's

youngest fraternal twin son Jacob (Israel), 

after Moses and his older brother Aaron led them 

away from Egyptian slavery, across the divinely

 parted Red Sea, and into the desert wilderness of

Shur, according to the commands of the Lord God: 

These are the journeys of the children of Israel, which went forth out of the land of Egypt with their armies under the hand of Moses and Aaron. And Moses wrote their goings out according to their journeys by the commandment of the LORD: and these are their journeys according to their goings out. And they departed from Rameses in the first month, on the fifteenth day of the first month; on the morrow after the passover the children of Israel went out with an high hand in the sight of all the Egyptians. For the Egyptians buried all their firstborn, which the LORD had smitten among them: upon their gods also the LORD executed judgments. And the children of Israel removed from Rameses, and pitched in Succoth. And they departed from Succoth, and pitched in Etham, which is in the edge of the wilderness. And they removed from Etham, and turned again unto Pi-hahiroth, which is before Baal-zephon: and they pitched before Migdol. And they departed from before Pi-hahiroth, and passed through the midst of the sea into the wilderness, and went three days' journey in the wilderness of Etham, and pitched in Marah. And they removed from Marah, and came unto Elim: and in Elim were twelve fountains of water, and threescore and ten palm trees; and they pitched there. And they removed from Elim, and encamped by the Red sea. And they removed from the Red sea, and encamped in the wilderness of Sin. And they took their journey out of the wilderness of Sin, and encamped in Dophkah. And they departed from Dophkah, and encamped in Alush. And they removed from Alush, and encamped at Rephidim, where was no water for the people to drink. And they departed from Rephidim, and pitched in the wilderness of Sinai. And they removed from the desert of Sinai, and pitched at Kibroth-hattaavah. And they departed from Kibroth-hattaavah, and encamped at Hazeroth. And they departed from Hazeroth, and pitched in Rithmah. And they departed from Rimmon-parez, and pitched in Libnah. And they removed from Libnah, and pitched at Rissah. And they journeyed from Rissah, and pitched in Kehelathah. And they went from Kehelathah, and pitched in mount Shapher. And they removed from mount Shapher, and encamped in Haradah. And they removed from Haradah, and pitched in Makheloth. And they removed from Makheloth, and encamped at Tahath. And they departed from Tahath, and pitched at Tarah. And they removed from Tarah, and pitched in Mithcah. And they went from Mithcah, and pitched in Hashmonah. And they departed from Hashmonah, and encamped at Moseroth. And they departed from Moseroth, and pitched in Benejaakan. And they removed from Bene-jaakan, and encamped at Hor-hagidgad. And they went from Horhagidgad, and pitched in Jotbathah. And they removed from Jotbathah, and encamped at Ebronah. And they departed from Ebronah, and encamped at Eziongaber. And they removed from Ezion-gaber, and pitched in the wilderness of Zin, which is Kadesh. And they removed from Kadesh, and pitched in mount Hor, in the edge of the land of Edom. And Aaron the priest went up into mount Hor at the commandment of the LORD, and died there, in the fortieth year after the children of Israel were come out of the land of Egypt, in the first day of the fifth month. And Aaron was an hundred and twenty and three years old when he died in mount Hor. And king Arad the Canaanite, which dwelt in the south in the land of Canaan, heard of the coming of the children of Israel. And they departed from mount Hor, and pitched in Zalmonah. And they departed from Zalmonah, and pitched in Punon. And they departed from Punon, and pitched in Oboth. And they departed from Oboth, and pitched in Ije-abarim, in the border of Moab. And they departed from Iim, and pitched in Dibon-gad. And they removed from Dibon-gad, and encamped in Almon-diblathaim. And they removed from Almon-diblathaim, and pitched in the mountains of Abarim, before Nebo. And they departed from the mountains of Abarim, and pitched in the plains of Moab by Jordan near Jericho. And they pitched by Jordan from Bethj-esimoth even unto Abel-shittim in the plains of Moab.-Numbers 33:1-49

Water, Water, Not Anywhere, and We Need a Drop to Drink

Moses and his fellow Israelites

And all the congregation of the children of Israel journeyed from the wilderness of Sin, after their journeys, according to the commandment of the LORD, and pitched in Rephidim: and there was no water for the people to drink. Wherefore the people did chide with Moses, and said, Give us water that we may drink. And Moses said unto them, Why chide ye with me? wherefore do ye tempt the LORD? And the people thirsted there for water; and the people murmured against Moses, and said, Wherefore is this that thou hast brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our cattle with thirst? And Moses cried unto the LORD, saying, What shall I do unto this people? they be almost ready to stone me. And the LORD said unto Moses, Go on before the people, and take with thee of the elders of Israel; and thy rod, wherewith thou smotest the river, take in thine hand, and go. Behold, I will stand before thee upon the rock in Horeb; and thou shalt smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel. And he called the name of the place Massah, and Meribah, because of the chiding of the children of Israel, and because they tempted the LORD, saying, Is the LORD among us, or not?-Exodus 17:1-7***Before the Red Sea was divinely parted and the Israelites walked across during their journey from Egyptian slavery to Canaan, the Promised Land, the Israelites became fearful of the Egyptians. Thus, the Israelites cried aloud to the Lord God and spoke worriedly and questioningly to Moses. After Moses and Moses' older brother Aaron led the Israelites into the desert wilderness of Shur, the Israelites questioned Moses when they came upon bitter water. In the desert wilderness of Sin, the Israelites were hungry and grumbled against Moses, and Aaron, and, according to Moses, against the Lord God. Approximately 1 1/2 years after grumbling in the desert wilderness of Sin, the Israelites began grumbling against Moses, Aaron and the Lord God when 10 of the spies Moses sent to Canaan spoke about the gigantic inhabitants and structures that they saw in the Promised Land, the inhabited by idolaters that the Lord God promised to give to Abraham (Abram the Hebrew), and to Abraham's son Isaac, and to Isaac's youngest fraternal twin son Jacob (Israel), and to their descendants. The Lord God told Moses and Aaron that none of the grumblers 20 years old and older would enter the Promised Land. During the 40th year of their journey, 123-year-old Aaron the high priest died upon Mount Hor, and Moses went upon Mount Nebo. The Lord God showed Moses the Promised Land, and 120-year-old Moses the prophet died and was divinely buried. Over 1,300 years after Joshua, Moses' aide and  successor from the tribe of Ephraim, led the Israelites across the divinely parted Jordan River and onto the Promised Land, John the Baptist and Jesus the Christ, the Son of God, were born. John the Baptist was born into the tribe of Jacob's 3rd born son Levi, the birth tribe of Aaron and Moses, to Zechariah (Zacharias) the priest and his wife Elizabeth (Elisabeth). Jesus the Christ was conceived of the Holy Spirit in the womb of Elizabeth's relative Mary, a virgin, and Jesus was born into the tribe of Jacob's 4th born son Judah to Mary and her husband Joseph when Mary was a virgin. Approximately 30 years after John the Baptist and Jesus the Christ were born, Jesus was baptized in the Jordan River by John the Baptist. Jesus having prayed, the heavens tearing open, the Holy Spirit descended as a dove and lit upon Jesus. The Lord God in heaven audibly acknowledged his Son Jesus, and the Holy Spirit led Jesus into the desert wilderness. Jesus fasted 40 days and nights and was tempted. Afterwards, Jesus was tended to by angels, and Jesus went to the area near John the Baptist, and John the Baptist proclaimed Jesus to be the Lamb of God taking away the sin of the world, and testified that Jesus is the Son of God. Then came Amalek, and fought with Israel in Rephidim. And Moses said unto Joshua, Choose us out men, and go out, fight with Amalek: tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in mine hand. So Joshua did as Moses had said to him, and fought with Amalek: and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill. And it came to pass, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed: and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed. But Moses' hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat thereon; and Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun. And Joshua discomfited Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword. And the LORD said unto Moses, Write this for a memorial in a book, and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua: for I will utterly put out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven. In Padan Aram, Haran, Jacob was married to Leah and Rachel, the daughters of Rebekah's brother Laban the Syrian (Aramean). Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Zebulun, and daughter Dinah were born to Jacob and Leah. Dan and Naphtali were born to Jacob and Bilhah, Rachel's maidservant. Gad and Asher were born to Jacob and Zilpah, Leah's maidservant. Joseph was the 1st son born to Jacob and Rachel, and Rachel and Joseph were Jacob's favorites. During Jacob's 20th year in Haran, he began journeying home to Canaan with his family, servants, animals, and possessions. Near Bethlehem, Benjamin was born to Jacob and Rachel, and Rachel died. When Joseph was 17 years old, his brothers sold him to merchants traveling to Egypt and led Jacob to believe that Joseph was killed by a wild beast. The merchants sold Joseph to Potiphar, an Egyptian official, and Joseph served in Potiphar's house until Potiphar's wife made a false accusation and Potiphar put Joseph in prison. At least 2 years after Joseph explained the meaning of a dream to the imprisoned cupbearer who served Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, and explained the meaning of a dream to Pharaoh's imprisoned baker, 30-year-old Joseph explained the meaning of a dream to Pharaoh, and Pharaoh proclaimed Joseph second-in-command. After the 2nd time that Joseph's brothers were in Egypt to buy corn (grain) during a famine, Joseph identified himself to his brothers and told them to move to Egypt with their families, including Jacob. In Beersheba, the Lord God spoke to 130-year-old Jacob. In Egypt, Jacob proclaimed Manasseh and Ephraim, the sons born to Joseph and his wife Asenath, to be his own sons, and the tribe of Joseph became the tribe of Manasseh and the tribe of Ephraim. Sometime after 147-year-old Jacob died in Egypt, and Jacob's family buried his body in Canaan, and 110-year-old Joseph and his siblings were dead, their descendants the Israelites were enslaved in Egypt. Miriam and her younger brothers Aaron and Moses were born into the tribe of Levi to Amram and Jochebed. Miriam and Aaron lived in the house with their parents and Moses lived as the son of the daughter of Pharaoh. Moses was 40 years old when he killed an Egyptian, and hid the body, and the murder was mentioned to Moses, and Pharaoh wanted to kill him, and Moses bolted from Egypt and began living in Midian. Moses became the husband of Zipporah and began working as a shepherd for Zipporah's father Jethro (Reuel). When Moses was 80 years old and herding Jethro's sheep amid the region of Mount Horeb, the mountain of God, Moses saw a fiery sight and the Lord God called to Moses. Moses responded to the Lord God and the Lord God and Moses talked with each other, and the Lord God sent Moses and 83-year-old Aaron to speak to the Israelite elders and Pharaoh. After the Lord God brought the 10th and final plague upon Pharaoh and Egypt, Moses and Aaron led the Israelites, and those with them, away from Egypt. The divinely inspired Scriptures of the Holy Bible reveal that the Lord God went before them in a pillar of cloud by day and in a pillar of fire by night, and did not lead the Israelites through the nearby region of enemy Philistines, so that the Israelites would not become regretful and return to Egypt. At the Red Sea, the Israelites were afraid and cried out to the Lord God, and Moses, and Moses spoke to the Israelites, and obeyed the commands of the Lord God, and the Lord God caused the Red Sea to go back by a strong east wind. The Israelites walked across on the dry bed, and the Egyptians drowned. In the desert wilderness of Shur, turmoil occurred when there was no water. In Marah the water was bitter. In the desert wilderness of Sin, the Israelites began wondering why they had not died in Egypt. In Rephidim, the Israelites complained, and the Amalekites, the descendants of Esau's grandson Amalek, attacked. During the 40-year journey to Canaan, the Promised Land, Miriam the prophetess died and was buried in Kadesh, in the desert wilderness of Zin. Upon Mount Hor, 123-year-old Aaron the high priest died. When Moses went upon Mount Nebo, the Lord God showed Moses the Promised Land, and 120-year-old Moses the prophet died, and was divinely buried. Joshua was Moses' aide and successor. After the Lord God spoke to him, Joshua led the Israelites across the divinely parted Jordan River and onto the land that the Lord God promised to give to Jacob, and Isaac, and to Isaac's father Abraham (Abram the Hebrew), and to their descendants. In the desert wilderness of Sinai

In the third month, when the children of Israel were gone forth out of the land of Egypt, the same day came they into the wilderness of Sinai. For they were departed from Rephidim, and were come to the desert of Sinai; and had pitched in the wilderness; and there Israel camped before the mount. And Moses went up unto God, and the LORD called unto him out of the mountain, saying, Thus shalt thou say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel; Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles' wings, and brought you unto myself. Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine: And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.-Exodus 19:1-6***Abraham (Abram the Hebrew) was living within an idolatrous environment in Ur, in southern Mesopotamia, when the Lord God appeared to Abraham and told Abraham to go out from his country and kin and come into the land he would be shown. Abraham journeyed away from Ur with his wife Sarah (Sarai), their father Terah and nephew Lot and began living in Haran, in northern Mesopotamia. Sometime after 205-year-old Terah died in Haran, 75-year-old Abraham, 65-year-old Sarah and Lot journeyed with their servants and possessions to Canaan, land inhabited by idolaters that the Lord God promised to give to Abraham's descendants and childless Abraham. Ishmael was born to 86-year-old Abraham and Hagar, Sarah's maidservant. The divinely inspired Scriptures of the Holy Bible reveal that the angel of the Lord proclaimed the words of the Lord to Hagar about Ishmael's life. Isaac, the son of promise, was born to 100-year-old Abraham and 90-year-old Sarah. When Isaac was 40 years old, he was married to Rebekah, Abraham and Sarah's grandniece. Fraternal twin sons Esau (Edom) and Jacob (Israel) were born to 60-year-old Isaac and Rebekah. Esau was Isaac's favorite, and Jacob was Rebekah's favorite. After Rebekah prompted Jacob to deceive Isaac, and cheat Esau, and learned that Esau planned to kill Jacob, she spoke words to Isaac that led him to send Jacob from their home in Beersheba, Canaan, to Rebekah's family in Padan Aram, Haran. During Jacob's 7th year in Haran, he was married to Leah and Rachel, the daughters of Rebekah's brother Laban the Syrian (Aramean). Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Zebulun, and daughter Dinah were born to Jacob and Leah. Amram and Jochebed hid their newborn baby to keep him safe from the murderous intentions of Pharaoh. When the baby was 3 months old, Jochebed put him in a specially prepared ark and placed the ark amid the vegetation by the river. Miriam watched Pharaoh's daughter send a maidservant to get the ark, and Miriam spoke to Pharaoh's daughter, and arrangements were made for Jochebed to be hired as the wet nurse for the baby. After the child was weaned, Jochebed took him to Pharaoh's daughter, and Pharaoh's daughter named the child Moses, and Moses lived as her son. When Moses was 40 years old, he killed an Egyptian, and hid the body, and the murder was mentioned to Moses, and Pharaoh wanted to kill Moses, and Moses bolted from Egypt and began living in Midian, and was married to Zipporah, the daughter of Jethro (Reuel), a Midianite descended from Abraham and his 2nd wife Keturah and their son Midian. Moses was 80 years old and herding Jethro's sheep amid the region of Mount Horeb, the mountain of God, when he saw a fiery sight and heard the Lord God call his name. Moses answered the Lord God, and the Lord God gave Moses a command, and the Lord God and Moses spoke to each other, and the Lord God sent Moses and 83-year-old Aaron to speak to the Israelite elders and Pharaoh. The Israelites believed the words of the Lord God that Aaron spoke to them. Pharaoh did not believe and he made the work of the Israelites more difficult. After the Lord God brought the 10th and final plague upon Pharaoh and Egypt, Pharaoh told Moses and Aaron to get the Israelites and their animals and go worship the Lord God. Moreover, Pharaoh told Moses and Aaron to bless him. Before Moses and Aaron led the Israelites, and those with them, away from Egypt, across the divinely parted Red Sea, and into the desert wilderness of Shur, the Israelites asked for and were given an abundance of valuable goods, fulfilling the words that the Lord God spoke to Abraham. In the desert wilderness of Sin, the Lord God began raining manna, bread from heaven, for the Israelites to gather and eat. In Rephidim, Moses struck a rock, according to the command of the Lord God, and water began flowing from the rock, enabling everyone to drink, and in Rehidim, the Israelites defeated the Amalekites. Jethro, Zipporah, and Gershom and Eliezer, the sons born to Moses and Zipporah, came to Moses before the Israelites were led into the desert wilderness of Sinai. Over 1,400 years after Moses sanctified the Israelites, and the Israelites washed their clothes, according to the commands of the Lord God, and the Lord God descended upon Mount Sinai, and the Israelites heard the voice of the Lord God proclaim the Ten Commandments to them, Jesus the Christ, the Son of God, was born.
