King Mesha, and the king of the Edomites

And Mesha king of Moab was a sheepmaster, and rendered unto the king of Israel an hundred thousand lambs, and an hundred thousand rams, with the wool. But it came to pass, when Ahab was dead, that the king of Moab rebelled against the king of Israel.-2 Kings 3:4-5

And king Jehoram went out of Samaria the same time, and numbered all Israel. And he went and sent to Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, saying, The king of Moab hath rebelled against me: wilt thou go with me against Moab to battle? And he said, I will go up: I am as thou art, my people as thy people, and my horses as thy horses. And he said, Which way shall we go up? And he answered, The way through the wilderness of Edom. So the king of Israel went, and the king of Judah, and the king of Edom: and they fetched a compass of seven days' journey: and there was no water for the host, and for the cattle that followed them. And the king of Israel said, Alas! that the LORD hath called these three kings together, to deliver them into the hand of Moab! But Jehoshaphat said, Is there not here a prophet of the LORD, that we may enquire of the LORD by him? And one of the king of Israel's servants answered and said, Here is Elisha the son of Shaphat, which poured water on the hands of Elijah. And Jehoshaphat said, The word of the LORD is with him. So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat and the king of Edom went down to him.-2 Kings 3:6-12

And Elisha said unto the king of Israel, What have I to do with thee? get thee to the prophets of thy father, and to the prophets of thy mother. And the king of Israel said unto him, Nay: for the LORD hath called these three kings together, to deliver them into the hand of Moab. And Elisha said, As the LORD of hosts liveth, before whom I stand, surely, were it not that I regard the presence of Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, I would not look toward thee, nor see thee. But now bring me a minstrel. And it came to pass, when the minstrel played, that the hand of the LORD came upon him. And he said, Thus saith the LORD, Make this valley full of ditches. For thus saith the LORD, Ye shall not see wind, neither shall ye see rain; yet that valley shall be filled with water, that ye may drink, both ye, and your cattle, and your beasts. And this is but a light thing in the sight of the LORD: he will deliver the Moabites also into your hand. And ye shall smite every fenced city, and every choice city, and shall fell every good tree, and stop all wells of water, and mar every good piece of land with stones.-2 Kings 3:13-19

And it came to pass in the morning, when the meat offering was offered, that, behold, there came water by the way of Edom, and the country was filled with water. And when all the Moabites heard that the kings were come up to fight against them, they gathered all that were able to put on armour, and upward, and stood in the border. And they rose up early in the morning, and the sun shone upon the water, and the Moabites saw the water on the other side as red as blood: And they said, This is blood: the kings are surely slain, and they have smitten one another: now therefore, Moab, to the spoil. And when they came to the camp of Israel, the Israelites rose up and smote the Moabites, so that they fled before them: but they went forward smiting the Moabites, even in their country. And they beat down the cities, and on every good piece of land cast every man his stone, and filled it; and they stopped all the wells of water, and felled all the good trees: only in Kir-haraseth left they the stones thereof; howbeit the slingers went about it, and smote it.-2 Kings 3:20-25

And when the king of Moab saw that the battle was too sore for him, he took with him seven hundred men that drew swords, to break through even unto the king of Edom: but they could not. Then he took his eldest son that should have reigned in his stead, and offered him for a burnt offering upon the wall. And there was great indignation against Israel: and they departed from him, and returned to their own land.-2 Kings 3:26-27

 Background Information 

The Moabites and the Ammonites descended from Lot and Lot's daughters. Moab, the forefather of the Moabites, was the son born to Lot and Lot's oldest daughter. Ben-ammi, the forefather of the Ammonites, was the son born to Lot and Lot's youngest daughter. Lot was born to Haran. Haran, Abraham (Abram the Hebrew), Nahor (Nachor), and Sarah (Sarai) were born to Terah. Ishmael was born to 86-year-old Abraham and Hagar, Sarah's maidservant. Isaac born to 100-year-old Abraham and 90-year-old Sarah. When Isaac was 40 years old, he was married to Rebekah, Nahor's granddaughter. Fraternal twin sons Esau (Edom) and Jacob (Israel) were born to 60-year-old Isaac and Rebekah. Esau was Isaac's favorite, and Rebekah was Jacob's favorite. The divinely inspired Scriptures of the Holy Bible reveal that the Lord God gave Mount Seir to Esau, and Esau's descendants the Edomites were ruled by kings, and the Lord God gave Ar to the Moabites, and the Lord God promised to give Canaan to Abraham, and Isaac, and to Jacob, and their descendants. In Padan Aram, Haran, Jacob was married to Leah and Rachel, the daughters of Rebekah's brother Laban the Syrian (Aramean). Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Zebulun, and daughter Dinah were born to Jacob and Leah. Dan and Naphtali were born to Jacob and Bilhah, Rachel's maidservant. Gad and Asher were born to Jacob and Zilpah, Leah's maidservant. Joseph was the 1st son born to Jacob and Rachel, and Rachel and Joseph were Jacob's favorites. During Jacob's 20th year in Haran, he began journeying home to Canaan with his family, servants, animals, and possessions. Near Bethlehem, Benjamin was born to Jacob and Rachel, and Rachel died. Joseph was 17 years old when his brothers sold him to merchants traveling to Egypt and led Jacob to believe that Joseph was killed by a wild beast, and Joseph was 30 years old when Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, proclaimed him second-in-command. Jacob was 130 years old when he moved with his family from Canaan to Egypt. In Egypt, Jacob proclaimed Manasseh and Ephraim, the sons born to Joseph and his wife Asenath, to be his own sons, and the tribe of Joseph became the tribe of Manasseh and the tribe of Ephraim. Sometime after 147-year-old Jacob died in Egypt, and Jacob's family buried his body in Canaan, and 110-year-old Joseph and his siblings were dead, the Israelites were enslaved in Egypt. Miriam and her younger brothers Aaron and Moses were born into the tribe of Levi to Amram and Jochebed. Moses was 80 years old and Aaron was 83 when the Lord God sent them to speak to the Israelite elders and Pharaoh. The Israelites believed the words of the Lord God spoken by Aaron. Pharaoh did not believe, and he made work for the Israelites more difficult. After the Lord God brought the 10th and final plague upon Pharaoh and Egypt, Pharaoh told Moses and Aaron to get the Israelites and their animals and go worship the Lord God. Moreover, Pharaoh told Moses and Aaron to bless him. Before Moses and Aaron led the Israelites, and those with them, away from Egypt, across the divinely parted Red Sea, into the desert wilderness of Shur, and the desert wildness of Sin, the Israelites asked for and were given an abundance of valuable goods, fulfilling the words that the Lord God spoke to Abraham. In the desert wilderness of Sinai, in the region of Mount Sinai, the Israelites heard the voice of the Lord God proclaim the Ten Commandments to them, and the Lord God began giving Moses judgments, statutes and laws for the Israelites, and the Lord God made a covenant with the Israelites, and the Israelites said they would obey the words of the Lord God. When Moses was upon Mount Sinai 40 days and nights with the Lord God, the Lord God gave Moses commands about the offering willing Israelites were to bring, and the Lord God described to Moses and showed Moses the likeness of the tabernacle, and the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and the other sacred items the Israelites were commanded to make, and the Lord God told Moses that only Aaron, and Aaron's sons and the sons born to their descendants were to serve the Lord God as priests. Meanwhile, the Israelites thought they were abandoned and told Aaron to make gods to lead them. Aaron told the Israelites to bring him their gold earrings, and Aaron made a golden calf that the Israelites worshiped and Moses burned and ground. During the 40-year journey to Canaan, the Promised Land, Miriam the prophetess died and was buried in Kadesh, in the desert wilderness of Zin. While in Kadesh, Moses sought permission to pass through the land of the Edomites, and their king refused access to the Israelites while the Edomites united in strength. The Israelites took a different route and did not harm the Edomites, according to the command that the Lord God gave Moses. Upon Mount Hor, 123-year-old Aaron the high priest died. The tribe of Reuben and the tribe of Gad made a request, and Moses spoke to the Reubenites and Gadites, and after they agreed to the terms presented, Moses gave the Reubenites, Gadites and 1/2 the tribe of Manasseh portions of the land recently conquered. When Moses went upon Mount Nebo, the Lord God showed Moses the Promised Land, and 120-year-old Moses the prophet died, and was divinely buried. Joshua, Moses' aide and successor from the tribe of Ephraim, led the Israelites across the divinely parted Jordan River and onto the land that the Lord God promised to give to Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and their descendants. Over 300 years after 110-year-old Joshua died, and was buried in his tribe's portion of the Promised Land, Saul, from the tribe of Benjamin, became the 1st king to reign. David, from the tribe of Judah, was the 2nd king to rule over all of the Israelites. Solomon, a son born to David and Bathsheba, was the 3rd king. Rehoboam, the son born to Solomon and Naamah, was the 4th king to rule over all of the Israelites. After Rehoboam gave a specific answer, the Israelites split into 2 kingdoms, according to the will of the Lord God, due to the idolatry and other wickedness of Solomon. Judah was the nation in the south, Jerusalem was the royal city and Rehoboam was the 1st king to reign. Israel was the northern nation, Samaria was the final royal city and Jeroboam, the son born to Nebat and Zeruah, was the 1st king to reign. Ahab was the 7th king to rule over all of the Israelites in the northern nation of Israel. During Ahab's 22-year reign, Elijah the prophet began proclaiming the words of the Lord God to the Israelites. Rehoboam's great-grandson Jehoshaphat was the 4th king to rule Judah.  Jehoshaphat was visiting Ahab when Ahab told him about the Syrians (Arameans) and their control over Ramoth-gilead, a city of refuge among the Israelites on the other side of the Jordan River, in the portion of land that Moses gave to the tribe of Gad. Jehoshaphat responded affirmatively and told Ahab to seek the will of the Lord God. Ahab gathered approximately 400 prophets, and the prophets said that the Lord would deliver the victory to Ahab. Jehoshaphat told Ahab to seek the will of the Lord God from a prophet of the Lord God, and Ahab sent an officer to bring Micaiah to him. The officer told Micaiah to speak the same good words that the other prophets were speaking. Micaiah repeated the words spoken by the other prophets, and Ahab demanded the truth. Micaiah revealed a message from the Lord God, and Ahab imprisoned Micaiah. As Jehoshaphat followed Ahab's plan, and was surrounded, Jehoshaphat cried out, and the Lord God helped Jehoshaphat, and caused the Syrians to see that Jehoshaphat wasn't Ahab. The Syrians stopped following Jehoshaphat, and an archer struck Ahab with a bow, and Ahab died in the evening. Ahaziah, a son born to Ahab and his wife Jezebel, became the 8th king to rule over all of the Israelites in the northern nation of Israel. Ahaziah fell and was injured during his 2-year reign and died, and Ahab and Jezebel's son Jehoram (Joram) became the 9th king to rule over all of the Israelites in the northern nation of Israel. Meanwhile, Elijah went up into heaven by a whirlwind, and Elijah's aide and successor Elisha began proclaiming the words of the Lord God to the Israelites. During Jehoram's 12-year reign, he sent a message to Jehoshaphat about the Moabite king. Over 750 years after Jehoshaphat's son Jehoram (Joram) became the 5th king to rule Judah, and was married to Ahab's daughter Athaliah, and Elisha the prophet died, and a dead man began living again after contact with Elisha's bones, Jesus the Christ, the Son of God, was born. Pray Ye

From the Epistle of James,

in the New Testament of the Holy Bible:

Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms. When the Brook Cherith was dry, Elijah went to Zarephath (Sarepta), in Sidon, according to the command of the Lord God, and was fed and housed by a widow. Years later, the widow's son died, and Elijah cried out to the Lord God, and Elijah stretched his body 3 times upon the body of the widow's son, and cried out and prayed to the Lord God, and the Lord God heard Elijah's voice, and the soul of the widow's son returned to him, and the widow's son was alive. During the 3rd year of the famine, the Lord God told Elijah to present himself to Ahab, and the Lord God said he would send rain upon the earth. Upon Mount Carmel, Elijah pronounced a challenge to the Israelites and the false prophets Jezebel sponsored, and Elijah prayed to the Lord God. After the Israelites saw the fire of the Lord God fall and consume the burnt sacrifice, wood, stones, and dust, and lick up the water, the Israelites proclaimed that the Lord God is the God. Elijah put the false prophets to death and spoke to Ahab about eating, drinking and rain. Over 800 years after Ahab was wounded in a battle against the Syrians (Arameans) and died, and Ahab and Jezebel's son Ahaziah became the 8th king to rule over all of the Israelites in the northern nation of Israel, and Ahaziah's brother Jehoram (Joram) became the 9th king, and Elijah went up into heaven by a whirlwind, the angel Gabriel appeared to elderly, childless Zechariah (Zacharias) the priest and told Zechariah that his prayer was heard, and told him about the conception, birth and purpose of the son who would be born to Zechariah and his wife Elizabeth (Elisabeth). The angel Gabriel told Zechariah to name the child John, and said the birth of John was going to cause rejoicing and gladness, and John would be great in the eyes of the Lord, and would be filled with the Holy Spirit (Holy Ghost) while in Elizabeth's womb, and would bring many Israelites back to the Lord, and prepare people for the Lord. During the 6th month that elderly Elizabeth was carrying John the Baptist in her womb, the Lord God sent the angel Gabriel to Elizabeth's relative Mary, a virgin. The angel Gabriel said Mary was favored with grace, and the Lord was with Mary, and Mary was blessed among women. The angel Gabriel told Mary not to fear, and said Mary had favor with the Lord God, and Mary would give birth to a Son, and Mary was to name the Son Jesus, and Jesus, the Son of the Highest (the Most High) would be conceived of the Holy Spirit in Mary's womb. Joseph was the craftsman pledged to wed Mary. After Jesus was conceived of the Holy Spirit in Mary's womb when Mary was a virgin, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph when Joseph was asleep and told Joseph, in a dream, not to be afraid to receive Mary as his wife, and explained that the child in Mary's womb was conceived of the Holy Spirit, and Joseph was to name the Son Jesus, and Jesus will save his people from their sins. Months after John the Baptist was born into the tribe of Levi to Zechariah and Elizabeth, Jesus, the Christ, the Son of God, was born in Bethlehem into the tribe of Judah, the tribe of Judah's kings, to Mary and her husband Joseph when Mary was a virgin. On the 8th day after John the Baptist was born, he was circumcised, and on the 8th day after Jesus the Christ was born, Jesus was circumcised, according to the covenant of circumcision that the Lord God gave Abraham. Wise men (Magi) arrived to worship Jesus, and King Herod the Great, ruler of Judea for the Roman Empire, sent them to Bethlehem. The wise men worshiped Jesus and presented Jesus with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. After the wise men departed, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and told Joseph to take Mary and Jesus to Egypt to avoid Herod's murderous intentions. After Herod was dead, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and told Joseph to return with Mary and Jesus, and after Joseph received another divine warning in a dream, Joseph, Mary and Jesus lived in Nazareth, Joseph and Mary's hometown in Galilee, and other children, including James, Joses (Joseph), Simon, and Judas (Juda), lived in the household. Approximately 30 years after John the Baptist and Jesus the Christ were born, Jesus was baptized in the Jordan River by John the Baptist. Jesus having prayed, the heavens tearing open, the Holy Spirit descended as a dove and lit upon Jesus. The Lord God in heaven audibly acknowledged his Son Jesus, and the Holy Spirit led Jesus into the desert wilderness. Jesus fasted 40 days and nights and was tempted. Afterwards, Jesus was tended to by angels, and Jesus went to the area near John the Baptist, and John the Baptist proclaimed Jesus to be the Lamb of God taking away the sin of the world, and testified that Jesus is the Son of God. In Galilee, Jesus told specific Israelite men, including Zebedee's sons James and John, to follow him, and Jesus began to preach, teach and perform miracles among the Israelites. In a synagogue in Nazareth, Jesus spoke about Elijah, the famine and the widow. Just Obedience

Jesus the Christ, the Son of God,

and his twelve disciples,

and Herod Antipas the tetrarch:

Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases. And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick. And he said unto them, Take nothing for your journey, neither staves, nor scrip, neither bread, neither money; neither have two coats apiece. And whatsoever house ye enter into, there abide, and thence depart. And whosoever will not receive you, when ye go out of that city, shake off the very dust from your feet for a testimony against them. And they departed, and went through the towns, preaching the gospel, and healing every where.-Luke 9:1-6

Now Herod the tetrarch heard of all that was done by him: and he was perplexed, because that it was said of some, that John was risen from the dead; And of some, that Elias had appeared; and of others, that one of the old prophets was risen again. And Herod said, John have I beheaded: but who is this, of whom I hear such things? And he desired to see him. And the apostles, when they were returned, told him all that they had done. And he took them, and went aside privately into a desert place belonging to the city called Bethsaida. Elijah (Elias) the prophet, and John the Baptist, and the 12 disciples and apostles of Jesus the Christ, the Son of God, were Israelites, descendants of Abraham (Abram the Hebrew) and Sarah (Sarai), Isaac and Rebekah, and Isaac and Rebekah's youngest fraternal twin son Jacob (Israel). Over 750 years before Jesus the Christ, John the Baptist, the 12 disciples and apostles, and Herod were born, Elijah was proclaiming the words of the Lord to King Ahab and the other Israelites in the northern nation of Israel in the Promised Land. Ahab was the 7th king to rule over all of the Israelites in the northern nation, and Samaria was the royal city. Galilee was in the northern nation, in the portion of the Promised Land allotted to the tribe of Naphtali, the descendants of Jacob and maidservant Bilhah. Sometime after Ahab died from the wound he received in a battle against the Syrians (Arameans), Elijah went up into heaven by a whirlwind. King Hoshea was the 19th king to rule over all of the Israelites in the northern nation of Israel in the Promised Land, the land that the Lord God promised to give to Abraham, and Isaac, and to Jacob, and their descendants. During the 9th year of Hoshea's reign, the Assyrians invaded the kingdom and conquered Samaria, according to the will of the Lord God, due to the idolatry and other wickedness of the Israelites. Over 100 years after Samaria was conquered, the Babylonians (Chaldeans) invaded Judah, the southern nation in the Promised Land, and conquered the royal city, Jerusalem, according to the will of the Lord God, due to the idolatry and other wickedness of the Israelites. Over 450 years after Israelites began returning to Judah and Jerusalem, John the Baptist, and Jesus the Christ, and the 12 disciples and apostles, and Herod were born. John the Baptist was born into the tribe of Levi to Zechariah (Zacharias) the priest and his wife Elizabeth (Elisabeth), descendants of Jacob and his 1st wife Leah, and Jacob and Leah's 3rd born son Levi. Jesus the Christ was conceived of the Holy Spirit in the womb of Elizabeth's relative Mary, a virgin, and Jesus was born into the tribe of Judah, the tribe of Judah's kings, to Mary, and her husband Joseph when Mary was a virgin.  Approximately 30 years after John the Baptist and Jesus the Christ were born, Jesus was baptized in the Jordan River by John the Baptist. Jesus having prayed, the heavens tearing open, the Holy Spirit descended as a dove and lit upon Jesus. The Lord God in heaven audibly acknowledged his Son Jesus, and the Holy Spirit led Jesus into the desert wilderness. Jesus fasted 40 days and nights and was tempted. Afterwards, Jesus was tended to by angels, and Jesus went to the area near John the Baptist, and John the Baptist proclaimed Jesus to be the Lamb of God taking away the sin of the world. In Galilee, Jesus told specific Israelite men to follow him, and Jesus began to preach, teach and perform miracles among the Israelites, the treasured and chosen people of the Lord God. Meanwhile, John the Baptist rebuked Herod, and Herod put John the Baptist in prison. When Herod's stepdaughter performed a dance during Herod's birthday feast, Herod told his stepdaughter to make a request. The stepdaughter obeyed her mother Herodias, Herod's wife, and asked to be given the head of John the Baptist on a platter. Less than 3 1/12 years after Jesus was baptized, Jesus was betrayed by his disciple and apostle Judas Iscariot. Jesus was arrested, crucified, buried in a tomb, resurrected, seen by over 500 people, and returned to heaven. This Day

Jesus the Christ, the Son of God,

in Nazareth and Capernaum, in Galilee:

And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, Being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered. And the devil said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread. And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God. And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it. If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine. And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. And devils also came out of many, crying out, and saying, Thou art Christ the Son of God. And he rebuking them suffered them not to speak: for they knew that he was Christ. And when it was day, he departed and went into a desert place: and the people sought him, and came unto him, and stayed him, that he should not depart from them.
