Absalom and Joab

So Absalom dwelt two full years in Jerusalem, and saw not the king's face. Therefore Absalom sent for Joab, to have sent him to the king; but he would not come to him: and when he sent again the second time, he would not come. Therefore he said unto his servants, See, Joab's field is near mine, and he hath barley there; go and set it on fire. And Absalom's servants set the field on fire. Then Joab arose, and came to Absalom unto his house, and said unto him, Wherefore have thy servants set my field on fire? And Absalom answered Joab, Behold, I sent unto thee, saying, Come hither, that I may send thee to the king, to say, Wherefore am I come from Geshur? it had been good for me to have been there still: now therefore let me see the king's face; and if there be any iniquity in me, let him kill me. So Joab came to the king, and told him: and when he had called for Absalom, he came to the king, and bowed himself on his face to the ground before the king: and the king kissed Absalom.-2 Samuel 14:28-33***Aaron and his younger brother Moses were Israelites from the tribe of Levi, descended from Abraham (Abram the Hebrew) and Sarah (Sarai), Isaac and Rebekah, Jacob (Israel) and his 1st wife Leah, and Jacob and Leah's 3rd born son Levi. Forty years after Moses and Aaron led their fellow Israelites away from Egyptian slavery, across the divinely parted Red Sea, into the desert wilderness of Shur, and the desert wilderness of Sin, and the desert wilderness of Sinai, 123-year-old Aaron the high priest died upon Mount Hor, and Moses went upon Mount Nebo. The Lord God showed Moses the Promised Land, and 120-year-old Moses the prophet died, and was divinely buried. Joshua was Moses' aide and successor from the tribe of Ephraim, descended from Jacob and his 2nd wife Rachel, their firstborn son Joseph and his wife Asenath, and Joseph and Asenath's 2nd born son Ephraim, whom Jacob proclaimed to be his own son. The divinely inspired Scriptures of the Holy Bible reveal that the Lord God spoke to Joshua, and Joshua sent 2 spies to Canaan, the Promised Land, and Rahab hid the spies, and the spies returned, and Joshua led the Israelites across the divinely parted Jordan River and onto the land that the Lord God promised to give to Abraham, and Isaac, and to Jacob, and their descendants. After 110-year-old Joshua died, and was buried in his tribe's portion of the Promised Land, the Israelites were led by elders, judges and their own minds. Samuel the priest, prophet and judge was born into the tribe of Levi to Elkanah and Hannah. When Samuel was elderly, and his sons Joel (Vashni) and Abiah (Abijah) were not obeying the commands of the Lord God, and King Nahash and his Ammonite army were preparing to attack, the Israelite elders demanded that Samuel appoint a king to lead them, and Samuel anointed Saul, from the tribe of Jacob and Rachel's 2nd and last son Benjamin to reign, according to the command of the Lord God. Saul was at Gibeah of God (the hill of God) when the Spirit of God came upon him. At least twice, Saul did not obey the commands of the Lord God. Samuel told Saul that the Lord God rejected Saul from being king and had torn the kingdom from Saul. David was from the tribe of Jacob and Leah's 4th born son Judah, and lived in Bethlehem, and was a man after God's own heart. While Saul reigned, the Lord God sent Samuel to anoint David to reign as king, and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David, and the Spirit of the Lord departed from Saul. After Saul heard about David's skills, strength, appearance, and favor with the Lord God, he commanded that David's father Jesse send David to him, and David began serving as a musician and an armor-bearer for Saul. Amid the Valley of Elah, David killed and beheaded Goliath the gigantic Philistine. David and Jonathan, Saul's son, made a covenant. The Israelite women sang of David higher than they sang of Saul, and Saul was angry. Saul wanted to kill David, and became afraid of David, and sent David on missions to get killed, and commanded others, including Jonathan, to kill David. Saul's daughter Michal was married to David and helped David escape from their home. David went to Samuel, and Jonathan, and Ahimelech the priest. At the Adullam cave, approximately 400 distressed, discontented and indebted men joined David. Abishai, Joab and Asahel were David's nephews, and Abishai, and evidently Joab and Asahel, were with David and his men during the years David stayed in the wilderness and the woods. Meanwhile, David was married to Abigail and Ahinoam, and Michal was married to Palti (Phalti/Patiel/Phaltiel). After the Philistines killed Jonathan and his brothers Malchishua and Abinadab (Ishui?), and Saul's self-inflicted death on the same battlefield, men from the tribe of Judah anointed 30-year-old David, and David began to reign only over the tribe of Judah. Saul's son Ishbosheth (Eshbaal) ruled over the other Israelite tribes. Amnon was born to David and Ahinoam. Chileab (Daniel) was born to David and Abigail. Absalom and Tamar were born to David and Maacah, a Syrian (Aramean) princess. Sometime after Ishbosheth was murdered, the Israelite elders went to David, and David made a covenant with them. The elders anointed 37-year-old David, and David began to rule over all of the Israelites. During David's reign, Amnon raped Tamar. Two years thereafter, Absalom commanded and oversaw Amnon's death and bolted to Geshur, the kingdom in Syria (Aram) ruled by Maacah's father King Talmai. At least 3 years after Absalom began living in Geshur, Joab initiated a plan that led to David giving him permission to bring Absalom home. Two years after Absalom returned, Absalom sought Joab's help. Absalom eventually developed a royal plan and had himself proclaimed king while David reigned. David and a multitude of people loyal to David, including Joab and his brothers, left Jerusalem. In Mahanaim, David commanded Joab, Abishai and Ittai to deal gently with Absalom. When Joab learned of Absalom's whereabouts, he went to Absalom and plunged 3 weapons into Absalom's body, and Joab's 10 armor-bearers attacked Absalom, and Absalom was dead. David remained in a mournful state until Joab spoke and reasoned with him, and David returned to Jerusalem and continued to reign. When David's death was near, Adonijah, the son born to David and Haggith, initiated actions to have himself proclaimed king, and Joab united with Adonijah. At least 950 years after Solomon, a son born to David and Bathsheba,  became the 3rd king to rule over all of the Israelites, and 70-year-old died, and Adonijah made a request and was put to death, and Joab fled into the tabernacle in Gibeon and was put to death, Jesus the Christ, the Son of God, was born. Events that occurred after Absalom, the son born

to King David and Maacah, arranged the death of

Amnon, the son born to David and Ahinoam, and

 Absalom escaped to Geshur, Syria (Aram), and 

Joab, David's nephew and army commander,

 worked to reunite David and Absalom

Now Joab the son of Zeruiah perceived that the king's heart was toward Absalom. And Joab sent to Tekoah, and fetched thence a wise woman, and said unto her, I pray thee, feign thyself to be a mourner, and put on now mourning apparel, and anoint not thyself with oil, but be as a woman that had a long time mourned for the dead: And come to the king, and speak on this manner unto him. So Joab put the words in her mouth.-2 Samuel 14:1-3

And when the woman of Tekoa spake to the king, she fell on her face to the ground, and did obeisance, and said, Help, O king. And the king said unto her, What aileth thee? And she answered, I am indeed a widow woman, and mine husband is dead. And thy handmaid had two sons, and they two strove together in the field, and there was none to part them, but the one smote the other, and slew him. And, behold, the whole family is risen against thine handmaid, and they said, Deliver him that smote his brother, that we may kill him, for the life of his brother whom he slew; and we will destroy the heir also: and so they shall quench my coal which is left, and shall not leave to my husband neither name nor remainder upon the earth.-2 Samuel 14:4-7

And the king said unto the woman, Go to thine house, and I will give charge concerning thee. And the woman of Tekoah said unto the king, My lord, O king, the iniquity be on me, and on my father's house: and the king and his throne be guiltless. Then said she, I pray thee, let the king remember the LORD thy God, that thou wouldest not suffer the revengers of blood to destroy any more, lest they destroy my son. Then the king answered and said unto the woman, Hide not from me, I pray thee, the thing that I shall ask thee. And the woman said, Let my lord the king now speak. And the king said, Is not the hand of Joab with thee in all this? And the woman answered and said, As thy soul liveth, my lord the king, none can turn to the right hand or to the left from ought that my lord the king hath spoken: for thy servant Joab, he bade me, and he put all these words in the mouth of thine handmaid: To fetch about this form of speech hath thy servant Joab done this thing: and my lord is wise, according to the wisdom of an angel of God, to know all things that are in the earth.-2 Samuel 14:18-20

And the king said unto Joab, Behold now, I have done this thing: go therefore, bring the young man Absalom again. And Joab fell to the ground on his face, and bowed himself, and thanked the king: and Joab said, To day thy servant knoweth that I have found grace in thy sight, my lord, O king, in that the king hath fulfilled the request of his servant. So Joab arose and went to Geshur, and brought Absalom to Jerusalem. And the king said, Let him turn to his own house, and let him not see my face. So Absalom returned to his own house, and saw not the king's face.-2 Samuel 14:21-24

But in all Israel there was none to be so much praised as Absalom for his beauty: from the sole of his foot even to the crown of his head there was no blemish in him. And when he polled his head, (for it was at every year's end that he polled it: because the hair was heavy on him, therefore he polled it:) he weighed the hair of his head at two hundred shekels after the king's weight. And unto Absalom there were born three sons, and one daughter, whose name was Tamar: she was a woman of a fair countenance. So Absalom dwelt two full years in Jerusalem, and saw not the king's face.-2 Samuel 14:25-28

Before David and the men with him went to battle the Philistines in Keilah, the men told David that they were afraid. David and his men defeated the Philistines, according to the will of the Lord God, and more men, including warriors, joined David, and David and his men became known as mighty warriors. Meanwhile, David was married to Abigail and Ahinoam, and Michal was married to Palti (Phalti/Paltiel/Phaltiel). Ziklag was a city in the portion of land allotted to the tribe of Jacob and Leah's 2nd born son Simeon, and was under the control of the Philistines. King Achish, the Philistine ruler of Gath, gave Ziklag to David, and warriors from the tribe of Benjamin went to Ziklag and united with David. Jashobeam (Josheb-basshebeth), Eleazar and Shammah were even more distinguished among all of David's men and were known as "the first three, the three mighty men, the three mighties." After the Philistines killed Jonathan and his brothers Malchishua and Abinadab (Ishui?), and Saul's self-inflicted death on the same battlefield, men from the tribe of Judah anointed 30-year-old David, and David began to reign only over the tribe of Judah. The third captain of the host for the third month was Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, a chief priest: and in his course were twenty and four thousand. This is that Benaiah, who was mighty among the thirty: and in his course was Ammizabad his son.-1 Chronicles 27:5-6

Solomon becomes the third king to rule

over all of the Israelites in the Promised Land:

And Bath-sheba went in unto the king into the chamber: and the king was very old; and Abishag the Shunammite ministered unto the king. And Bath-sheba bowed, and did obeisance unto the king. And the king said, What wouldest thou? And she said unto him, My lord, thou swarest by the LORD thy God unto thine handmaid, saying, Assuredly Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne. And now, behold, Adonijah reigneth; and now, my lord the king, thou knowest it not: And he hath slain oxen and fat cattle and sheep in abundance, and hath called all the sons of the king, and Abiathar the priest, and Joab the captain of the host: but Solomon thy servant hath he not called. And thou, my lord, O king, the eyes of all Israel are upon thee, that thou shouldest tell them who shall sit on the throne of my lord the king after him. Otherwise it shall come to pass, when my lord the king shall sleep with his fathers, that I and my son Solomon shall be counted offenders. And all the people came up after him, and the people piped with pipes, and rejoiced with great joy, so that the earth rent with the sound of them.-1 Kings 1:15-40***Sometime after Samuel, the priest, prophet and judge from the tribe of Levi, anointed David to reign as king, David was married to Michal. Michal was the daughter of King Saul, the reigning ruler and 1st king to rule over the Israelites in the Promised Land. Sometime after Michal helped David escape from their home to avoid being killed by Saul, David was married to Abigail and Ahinoam, and Michal was married to Palti (Paltiel/Phalti/Phaltiel). Ater the Philistines killed Saul's sons Jonathan, Malchishua and Abinadab (Malchishua), and Saul's self-inflicted death on the same battlefield, men from the tribe of Judah anointed 30-year-old David, and began to reign only over the tribe of Judah, the tribe of his birth. Saul's son Ishbosheth (Eshbaal) ruled over the other Israelite tribes. Sometime after Ishbosheth was murdered, the Israelite elders went to David, and David made a covenant with them. The elders anointed 37-year-old David and David became the 2nd king to rule over all of the Israelites in the Promised Land, the land that the Lord God promised to give to Abraham (Abram the Hebrew), and to Abraham's son Isaac, and to Isaac's youngest fraternal twin son Jacob (Israel), and to their descendants. While reigning, David was intimate with Bathsheba, the wife of Uriah, and caused Uriah to be killed. The Lord God caused the 1st child born to David and Bathsheba to die. Solomon was the 2nd child born to David and his wife Bathsheba. Amnon, the son born to David and Ahinoam, was David's firstborn son. Absalom, the son born to David and Maacah, was the 3rd son born to David. Adonijah, the son born to David and Haggith, was David's 4th born son. Years before Adonijah had himself proclaimed king while David reigned, Absalom had himself proclaimed king while David reigned, and Absalom was killed. Over 900 years after Rehoboam, the son born to Solomon and Naamah, became the 4th king to rule over all of the Israelites, Jesus the Christ, the Son of God, was born. David was 30 years old when he became the 2nd king to rule over all of the Israelites in the Promised Land, the land that the Lord God promised to give to Jacob, and to Jacob's father Isaac, and to Isaac's father Abraham (Abram the Hebrew), and to their descendants. Joab won a challenge proposed by David and became commander of the army. Years thereafter, Absalom, the son born to David and Maacah (Maachah/Maakah), had himself proclaimed king while David reigned. David and many of the people loyal to David hurried away from Jerusalem, the royal city. Meanwhile, Absalom sought advice, and was intimate with the 10 concubines David left in Jerusalem, and  appointed Amasa commander of the army. Absalom was killed by Joab  and Joab's 10 armor-bearers, despite a command given by David, and David commanded Amasa to lead the army. Before 70-year-old David died, Solomon, a son born to David and Bathsheba, became the 3rd king to rule over all of the Israelites. At least 925 years after Rehoboam, the son born to Solomon and Naamah, became the 4th king to rule over all of the Israelites, Jesus the Christ, the Son of God, was born.
