And David went out whithersoever Saul sent him, and behaved himself wisely: and Saul set him over the men of war, and he was accepted in the sight of all the people, and also in the sight of Saul's servants. And it came to pass as they came, when David was returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, that the women came out of all cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet king Saul, with tabrets, with joy, and with instruments of musick. And the women answered one another as they played, and said, Saul hath slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands. And Saul was very wroth, and the saying displeased him; and he said, They have ascribed unto David ten thousands, and to me they have ascribed but thousands: and what can he have more but the kingdom? And Saul eyed David from that day and forward. And it came to pass on the morrow, that the evil spirit from God came upon Saul, and he prophesied in the midst of the house: and David played with his hand, as at other times: and there was a javelin in Saul's hand, And Saul cast the javelin; for he said, I will smite David even to the wall with it. And David avoided out of his presence twice.-1 Samuel 18:5-11***After King Saul did not obey the commands of the Lord God, and the Lord God rejected Saul from being king, the Spirit of the Lord departed from Saul, and Saul was beset by an evil spirit sent to him from the Lord God. Meanwhile, David, a young shepherd and musician who was anointed to reign as king, was brought in to play music whenever Saul was troubled by the spirit. David continued tending to the sheep owned by his father Jesse while serving as a musician and an armor-bearer for Saul. After David killed and beheaded Goliath the gigantic Philistine, David stayed in Saul's service full-time as an army officer. Jonathan, Saul's son, made a covenant with David, and the Israelite women sang of David higher than they sang of Saul. Saul was angry. Moreover, Saul became afraid of David, realizing that the Lord God departed from him and the Lord God was with David. Saul wanted to kill David, and wanted David to get killed during battles, and commanded others, including Jonathan, to kill David. Saul's daughter Michal married David and helped David escape from their home. After Jonathan and his brothers Abinadab and Malchishua were killed by the Philistines, and Saul's self-inflicted death on the same battlefield, men from the tribe of Judah anointed David, and 30-year-old David began to reign only over the tribe of Judah, the tribe of his birth. Saul's son Ishbosheth (Eshbaal) reigned over the other Israelite tribes. After Ishbosheth was murdered, the Israelite elders went to David, and David made a covenant with them. The elders anointed David, and 37 1/2-year-old David became the 2nd king to reign over all of the Israelites in the Promised Land. Over 900 years after Solomon, the 2nd son born to David and Bathsheba, became the 3rd king to reign over all of the Israelites, Jesus the Christ, the Son of God, was born. And the evil spirit from the LORD was upon Saul, as he sat in his house with his javelin in his hand: and David played with his hand. And Saul sought to smite David even to the wall with the javelin; but he slipped away out of Saul's presence, and he smote the javelin into the wall: and David fled, and escaped that night.-1 Samuel 19:8-10***Joshua was from the tribe of Ephraim, descended from Jacob (Israel) and his 2nd wife Rachel, their firstborn son Joseph and his wife Asenath, and Joseph and Asenath's 2nd born son Ephraim, whom Jacob proclaimed to be his own son. Samuel the priest, prophet and judge was from the tribe of Levi, descended from Jacob and his 1st wife Leah, and Jacob and Leah's 3rd born son Levi. Saul was from the tribe of Benjamin, descended from Jacob and Rachel's 2nd and last son Benjamin. David was from the tribe of Judah descended from Jacob and Leah's 4th born son Judah. Over 300 years after Joshua led his fellow Israelites across the divinely parted Jordan River and onto the Promised Land, the Israelite elders demanded that Samuel appoint a king to lead them. Samuel was elderly, his sons Joel (Vashni) and Abiah (Abijah) were not obeying the commands of the Lord God, and King Nahash and his fellow Ammonites were preparing to attack. Samuel was not pleased with their request. The divinely inspired Scriptures of the Holy Bible reveal that Samuel prayed to the Lord God, and proclaimed the words of the Lord God to the Israelites, and anointed Saul to reign as king, according to the command of the Lord God. Saul disobeyed the commands of the Lord God.
