...................................................................LET US LEARN TOGETHER WHAT IS GOOD. Job 34:4b(NIV)................................................................Some people see the Bible as a long and boring book filled with incidents and events from the lives of ancient people who probably never existed. The biblical stories are seen as fables. Romans 15:4 (KJV) reveals: For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope. In this blog, many of the situations and conversations found in the divinely inspired Scriptures of the Holy Bible have been placed in categories that correspond to expressive sayings and phrases. Reference information, background information and links connecting the people and places are given to help you find a place to begin reading the Bible for yourself.

Something Needs to Change about Your Name

Jacob, Rachel and Benjamin

And they journeyed from Bethel; and there was but a little way to come to Ephrath: and Rachel travailed, and she had hard labour. And it came to pass, when she was in hard labour, that the midwife said unto her, Fear not; thou shalt have this son also.
And it came to pass, as her soul was in departing, (for she died) that she called his name Ben-oni: but his father called him Benjamin.
And Rachel died, and was buried in the way to Ephrath, which is Bethlehem.
-Genesis 35:16-19***Abraham (Abram the Hebrew) was living in Ur, in southern Mesopotamia, when the Lord God appeared to him and told Abraham to go out from his country and kin and come into the land he would be shown. Abraham journeyed away from Ur with his wife Sarah (Sarai), their father Terah and nephew Lot and began living in Haran, in northern Mesopotamia. After 205-year old Terah died in Haran, 75-year-old Abraham, 65-year-old Sarah and Lot journeyed with the servants and possessions to Canaan, land inhabited by idolaters that the Lord God promised to give to Abraham's descendants and childless Abraham. Ishamel was born to 86-year-old Abraham and Hagar, Sarah's maidservant. Isaac was born to 100-year-old Abraham and 90-year-old Sarah. When Isaac was 40 years old, he was married to Rebekah, Abraham and Sarah's grandniece. Fraternal twins sons Esau (Edom) and Jacob were born to 60-year-old Isaac and Rebekah. Esau was Isaac's favorite, and Jacob was Rebekah's favorite. After Rebekah prompted Jacob to deceive Isaac, and cheat Esau, and learned that Esau planned to kill Jacob, she spoke words to Isaac that led him to send Jacob from their home in Beersheba, Canaan to Rebekah's family in Padan Aram, Haran. In Bethel (Luz), Jacob was asleep and saw a divine sight and heard the Lord God speaking to him. During Jacob's 7th year in Haran, he was married to Leah and Rachel, the daughters of Rebekah's brother Laban the Syrian (Aramean). Six sons and a daughter were born to Jacob and Leah. Leah named their firstborn son Reuben, saying the Lord God looked upon her affliction. Leah named their 2nd son Simeon, saying the Lord God heard she was unloved. Leah named their 3rd son  Levi, saying that at last Jacob would become attached to her. Leah named their 4th son Judah, saying she would praise the Lord God. Leah named their 5th son Issachar, saying the Lord God had given her wages. Leah named their 6th son Zebulun, saying the Lord God bestowed her with a good dowry. Leah named their daughter Dinah, meaning judgment (justice, govern). Rachel sent her maidservant  Bilhah to Jacob for Bilhah to conceive children on Rachel's behalf. Rachel named Jacob and Bilhah's 1st son Dan, saying that the Lord God heard and judged her case, and Rachel named Jacob and Bilhah's 2nd son Naphtali, saying that with great wrestlings she wrestled with Leah and prevailed. Leah sent her maidservant Zilpah to Jacob for Zilpah to conceive children on Leah's behalf. Leah named Jacob and Zilpah's 1st son Gad, saying that a fortunate troop comes, and Leah named Jacob and Zilpah's 2nd son Asher, saying she was happy and daughters would call her blessed. When
Jacob and Rachel's 1st son was born, Rachel named the infant Joseph, saying the Lord God had taken away her shame and the Lord God would add to her another son. During Jacob's 20th year in Haran, he began journeying home to Canaan with his family, servants, animals, and possessions. In Mahanaim, Jacob saw the angels of God, and in Peniel (Penuel), Jacob was involved in a divine wrestling match and was given the name Israel. In Bethel, the Lord God appeared to Jacob and confirmed that Jacob's name was changed to Israel. Near Bethlehem, a 2nd son was born to Jacob and Rachel, and Rachel named the newborn boy Ben-oni, and Rachel died. The name Ben-oni is defined as "son of my sorrow" or "son of my misfortune". Jacob renamed their son Benjamin, defined as "son of honor", "son of good fortune", "son of the right hand", or "son of the south". Over 1,800 years Jacob and Isaac were reunited in Hebron (Kiriath-arba), and 180-year-old Isaac died, and was buried by Esau and Jacob, Jesus the Christ, the Son of God, was born. Jesus was conceived of the Holy Spirit in the womb of Mary, a virgin, and Jesus was born in Bethlehem into the tribe of Judah to Mary and her husband Joseph when Mary was a virgin.-Genesis 11:26-35:29, 1 Chronicles 1:1-8:40, Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Acts 1:1-26
