Abimelech and Gaal

And Gaal the son of Ebed came with his brethren, and went over to Shechem: and the men of Shechem put their confidence in him. And they went out into the fields, and gathered their vineyards, and trode the grapes, and made merry, and went into the house of their god, and did eat and drink, and cursed Abimelech. And Gaal the son of Ebed said, Who is Abimelech, and who is Shechem, that we should serve him? is not he the son of Jerubbaal? and Zebul his officer? serve the men of Hamor the father of Shechem: for why should we serve him? And would to God this people were under my hand! then would I remove Abimelech. And he said to Abimelech, Increase thine army, and come out. And when Zebul the ruler of the city heard the words of Gaal the son of Ebed, his anger was kindled. And he sent messengers unto Abimelech privily, saying, Behold, Gaal the son of Ebed and his brethren be come to Shechem; and, behold, they fortify the city against thee. Now therefore up by night, thou and the people that is with thee, and lie in wait in the field: And it shall be, that in the morning, as soon as the sun is up, thou shalt rise early, and set upon the city: and, behold, when he and the people that is with him come out against thee, then mayest thou do to them as thou shalt find occasion.-Judges 9:26-33***Gideon (Jerubbaal) was an Israelite from the tribe of Manasseh, descended from Abraham (Abram the Hebrew) and Sarah (Sarai), Isaac and Rebekah, Jacob (Israel) and his 2nd wife Rachel, their firstborn son Joseph and his wife Asenath, and Joseph and Asenath's firstborn son Manasseh. Ephraim was Joseph and Asenath's 2nd born son. The divinely inspired Scriptures of the Holy Bible reveal that Jacob was living in Egypt when he proclaimed Manasseh and Ephraim to be his own sons, and the tribe of Joseph became the tribe of Manasseh and the tribe of Ephraim. Abimelech was born to Gideon and a concubine, and Gideon's other 70 sons were born to women married to Gideon. Gaal was born to Ebed. The lineage of Gaal and Ebed is not definitively revealed in the Holy Bible. Aaron and his younger brother Moses were Israelites from the tribe of Levi, descended from Jacob and his 1st wife Leah and their 3rd born son Levi. Forty years after Moses and Aaron led the Israelites away from Egyptian slavery, across the divinely parted Red Sea, into the desert wilderness of Shur, and the desert wilderness of Sin, and the desert wilderness of Sinai, on a journey to Canaan, the Promised Land, 123-year-old Aaron the high priest died, and Moses went upon Mount Nebo, according to the commands of the Lord God. The Lord God showed Moses the Promised Land, and 120-year-old Moses the prophet died, and was divinely buried. Joshua was Moses' aide and successor from the tribe of Ephraim. The Lord God spoke to Joshua, and Joshua sent 2 spies to Canaan, and Rahab hid the spies, and the spies returned, and Joshua led the Israelites across the divinely parted Jordan River and onto the land that the Lord God promised to give to Abraham, and Isaac, and to Jacob, and their descendants. After 110-year-old Joshua died, and was buried in his tribe's portion of the Promised Land, the Israelites were led by elders, judges and their own minds. Othniel, from the tribe of Jacob and Leah's 4th born son Judah, and Ehud, from the tribe of Jacob and Rachel's 2nd and last son Benjamin, and Shamgar, and Deborah successively led the Israelites as judges before the angel of the Lord appeared and spoke to Gideon, and the Lord God spoke to Gideon, and Gideon the judge led the Israelites to victory over enemies headed by the Midianites, the descendants of Abraham and his 2nd wife Keturah and their son Midian. Amid the triumph, the Israelites wanted Gideon to reign as king, with the kingship succeeding to Gideon's son and his son's son. Gideon refused the offer, and identified the Lord God as their ruler. After Gideon was dead, Abimelech spoke to his mother's people in Shechem and questioned them about being their king. Three years after Abimelech began to reign, the Lord God sent a spirit of animosity between Abimelech and his followers, and newcomer Gaal tried to gain control. In Thebez, a woman in a tower dropped an upper millstone on Abimelech's head and crushed Abimelech's skull. Abimelech's armor-bearer obeyed Abimelech's command, and Abimelech died. Over 1,000 years after Saul, from the tribe of Benjamin, became the 1st king to rule over the Israelites in the Promised Land, and Samuel the priest, prophet and judge from the tribe of Levi died, Jesus the Christ, the Son of God, was born. And all the people likewise cut down every man his bough, and followed Abimelech, and put them to the hold, and set the hold on fire upon them; so that all the men of the tower of Shechem died also, about a thousand men and women. But there was a strong tower within the city, and thither fled all the men and women, and all they of the city, and shut it to them, and gat them up to the top of the tower. Abimlech was born to Gideon and a concubine. After Gideon died, Abimelech went to his mother's kinfolk in Shechem and convinced  them to support his quest for kingship. Shechem was in the portion of the Promised Land allotted to the tribe of Ephraim. The Shechemites, the descendants of Gilead's son Shechem, agreed with Abimelech's plan and gave him silver. Abimelech killed his half brothers, the sons born within Gideon's marriages. However, Jotham, the youngest half brother, escaped. Several years thereafter, the Lord God caused a rift between Abimelech and the Shechemites, and the Shechemites began following Gaal, a newcomer. Abimelech and the men with him began defeating Gaal and his followers and completely destroyed their city and covered the city with salt. In Thebez, the Shechemites fled to a tower, climbed to its roof, and a woman dropped a heavy stone object on Abimelech's head. Over 1,000 years after Tola became the next judge, Jesus the Christ, the Son of God, was born. After Gideon died, the Israelites worshiped idols, and Abimelech ruled over the inhabitants of Shechem 3 years before the Lord God sent a spirit of ill will between Abimelech and the men in Shechem. Rebekah heard Isaac's instructions and prompted and prepared Jacob to deceive Isaac and cheat Esau. After Rebekah learned that Esau planned to kill Jacob, she spoke words to Isaac that led him to send Jacob from their home in Beersheba, Canaan, to Rebekah's family in Padan Aram, Haran. In Bethel (Luz), Jacob was asleep when he saw, in a dream the angels of God, and saw and heard the Lord God speaking to him. During Jacob's 7th year in Haran, he was married to Leah and Rachel, the daughters of Rebekah's brother Laban the Syrian (Aramean). During the 40-year journey to Canaan, the Promised Land, Miriam the prophetess died and was buried in Kadesh, in the desert wilderness of Zin. Upon Mount Hor, 123-year-old Aaron the high priest died. When Moses went upon Mount Nebo, the Lord God showed Moses the Promised Land, and 120-year-old Moses the prophet died, and was divinely buried. Joshua, Moses' aide and successor from the tribe of Ephraim, led the Israelites across the divinely parted Jordan River and onto the land that the Lord God promised to give to Abraham, and Isaac, and to Jacob, and their descendants. After 110-year-old Joshua died, and was buried in his tribe's portion of the Promised Land, the Israelites were led by elders, judges and their own minds. Gideon (Jerubbaal), the judge from the tribe of Manasseh, led the Israelites to victory over the Midianites, according to the commands of the Lord God, and the Israelites offered Gideon a kingship dynasty. Gideon refused to rule over the Israelites and proclaimed that the Lord God shall over them. Abimelech was the son born to Gideon and his concubine in Shechem, a designated city of refuge among the Israelites. After Gideon died, Abimelech schemed to rule as king before any of the 70 sons born to Gideon and Gideon's wives established control. Over 1,100 years after Abimelech was killed, and Tola became the judge leading the Israelites, Jesus the Christ, the Son of God, was born. Abimelech

And Abimelech the son of Jerubbaal went to Shechem unto his mother's brethren, and communed with them, and with all the family of the house of his mother's father, saying, Speak, I pray you, in the ears of all the men of Shechem, Whether is better for you, either that all the sons of Jerubbaal, which are threescore and ten persons, reign over you, or that one reign over you? remember also that I am your bone and your flesh. And his mother's brethren spake of him in the ears of all the men of Shechem all these words: and their hearts inclined to follow Abimelech; for they said, He is our brother. And they gave him threescore and ten pieces of silver out of the house of Baal-berith, wherewith Abimelech hired vain and light persons, which followed him.-Judges 9:1-4***Abraham (Abram the Hebrew), Nahor (Nachor), Haran, and Sarah (Sarai) were born to Terah. Ismael was born to 86-year-old Abraham and Hagar, Sarah's maidservant. Isaac was born to 100-year-old Abraham and 90-year-old Sarah. When Isaac was 40 years old, he was married to Rebekah, Nahor's granddaughter.  Fraternal twin sons Esau (Edom) and Jacob (Israel) were born to 60-year-old Isaac and Rebekah. During Jacob's 20th year in Haran, he began journeying home to Canaan with his family, servants, animals, and possessions. Near Bethlehem, Benjamin was born to Jacob and Rachel, and Rachel died. Joseph was 17 years old when his brothers sold him to merchants traveling to Egypt and led Jacob to believe that Joseph was killed by a wild beast, and Joseph was 30 years old when Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, proclaimed him second-in-command. Jacob was 130 years old when he moved with his family from Canaan to Egypt. In Egypt, Jacob proclaimed Manasseh and Ephraim, the sons born to Joseph and his wife Asenath, to be his own sons, and the tribe of Joseph became the tribe of Manasseh and the tribe of Ephraim. Sometime after 147-year-old Jacob died in Egypt, and Jacob's family buried his body in Canaan, and 110-year-old Joseph and his siblings were dead, their descendants the Israelites were enslaved in Egypt. Miriam and her younger brothers Aaron and Moses were born into the tribe of Levi to Amram and Jochebed. Moses was 80 years old and Aaron was 83 when the Lord God sent them to speak to the Israelite elders and Pharaoh. The elders believed the words of the Lord God spoken by Aaron. Pharaoh did not believe and he made work for the Israelites more difficult. After the Lord God brought the 10th and final plague upon Pharaoh and Egypt, Pharaoh told Moses and Aaron to get the Israelites and their animals and go worship the Lord God. Moreover, Pharaoh told Moses and Aaron to bless him. Before Moses and Aaron led the Israelites, and those with them, away from Egypt, across the divinely parted Red Sea, into the desert wilderness of Shur, and the desert wilderness of Sin, the Israelites asked for and were given an abundance of valuable goods, fulfilling the words that the Lord God spoke to Abraham. In the desert wilderness of Sinai, in the region of Mount Sinai, the Israelites heard the voice of the Lord God proclaim the Ten Commandments to them, and the Lord God began giving Moses judgments, statutes and laws for the Israelites, and the Lord God made a covenant with the Israelites, and the Israelites said they would obey the words of the Lord God. When Moses was upon Mount Sinai 40 days and nights with the Lord God, the Lord God gave Moses commands about the offering willing Israelites were to bring, and the Lord God described to Moses and showed Moses the likeness of the tabernacle, and the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and the other sacred items the Israelites were commanded to make, and the Lord God told Moses that only Aaron, and Aaron's sons and the sons born to their descendants were to serve the Lord God as priests. Meanwhile, the Israelites thought they were abandoned and told Aaron to make gods to lead them. Aaron told the Israelites to bring him their gold earrings, and Aaron made a golden calf that the Israelites worshiped and Moses' burned and ground. Near Canaan, the Lord God gave Moses commands about dividing the Promised Land, and told Moses the names of the 12 tribal leaders who were to oversee the division with Joshua and Eleazar. The Lord God spoke to Joshua, and Joshua sent 2 spies to Canaan, and Rahab hid the spies, and the spies returned, and Joshua led the Israelites across the divinely parted Jordan River and onto the land that the Lord God promised to give to Abraham, and Isaac, and to Jacob, and their descendants. The Israelites, led by Joshua, conquered Jericho, Ai, and other kingdoms and kings before Joshua, Eleazar and the 12 tribal leaders began allotting each tribe its portion of land. Shechem was in the region allotted the tribe of Ephraim. After 110-year-old Joshua died, and was buried in his tribe's portion of the Promised Land, the Israelites were led by elders, judges, and their own minds. Gideon  (Jerubbaal) the judge was from the tribe of Manasseh and the family of Abiezer. Seventy sons were born to Gideon and his wives.  Abimelech was born to Gideon and his concubine. After Gideon died,  Abimelech wanted to reign as king. Anticipating success, Abimelech used the 70 pieces of silver given to him by his mother's kin and townspeople to hire men whose killing skills could be bought. Jotham was the only half brother who survived the massacre. Over 1,100 years after Abimelech was killed by a woman in Thebez, John the Baptist and Jesus the Christ, the Son of God, were born. John the Baptist was born into the tribe of Levi to Zechariah (Zacharias) the priest and his wife Elizabeth (Elisabeth). Jesus the Christ was conceived of the Holy Spirit in the womb of Elizabeth's relative  Mary, a virgin, and Jesus was born in Bethlehem into the tribe of Judah to Mary and her husband Joseph when Mary was a virgin. On the 8th day after John the Baptist was born, he was circumcised, and on the 8th day after Jesus the Christ was born, Jesus was circumcised, according to the covenant of circumcision that the Lord God gave Abraham. Approximately 30 years after John the Baptist and Jesus the Christ were born, Jesus was baptized in the Jordan River by John the Baptist. Jesus having prayed, the heavens tearing open, the Holy Spirit descended as a dove and lit upon Jesus. The Lord God in heaven audibly acknowledged his Son Jesus, and the Holy Spirit led Jesus into the desert wilderness. Jesus fasted 40 days and nights and was tempted. Afterwards, Jesus was tended to by angels, and Jesus went to the area near John the Baptist, and John the Baptist proclaimed Jesus to be the Lamb of God taking away the sin of the world, and testified that Jesus is the Son of God. In Galilee, Jesus told specific Israelite men to follow him, and Jesus began to preach, teach and perform miracles among the Israelites.
