Abimelech
When Abimelech had reigned three years over Israel, Then God sent an evil spirit between Abimelech and the men of Shechem; and the men of Shechem dealt treacherously with Abimelech: That the cruelty done to the threescore and tens sons of Jerubbaal might come, and their blood be laid upon Abimelech their brother, which slew them; and upon the men of Shechem, which aided him in the killing of his brethren. And the men of Shechem set liers in wait for him in the top of the mountains, and they robbed all that came along that way by them: and it was told Abimelech. And Gaal the son of Ebed came with his brethren, and went over to Shechem: and the men of Shechem put their confidence in him. And they went out into the fields, and gathered their vineyards, and trode the grapes, and made merry, and went into the house of their god, and did eat and drink, and cursed Abimelech.-Judges 9:22-27***The Israelites descended from Abraham (Abram the Hebrew) and Sarah (Sarai), Isaac and Rebekah, and Isaac and Rebekah's youngest fraternal twin son Jacob (Israel). The Midianites descended from Abraham his 2nd wife Keturah, and Abraham and Keturah's son Midian. When the Israelites were living under the leadership of judges in the Promised Land, Gideon (Jerubbaal), from the tribe of Manasseh, led the Israelites to victory over the Midianites, according to the will of the Lord God. After the triumph, the Israelites sought to hand Gideon a dynastic rulership. Gideon proclaimed the Lord God to be king, and Gideon refused the offer to reign. After Gideon died, Abimelech, the son born to Gideon and a concubine, went to his maternal relatives in Shechem and the relatives agreed to support Abimelech's quest to reign as king. The relatives gave Abimelech money from the temple of their idol, and Gideon hired men who helped him murder Gideon's other sons.-Genesis 11:26-50:26, Exodus, Numbers 20:1-29, 27:12-23, Deuteronomy 31:1-30, 32:44-52, 34:1-12, Joshua 1:1-4:24, 23:1-24:33, Judges 1:1-9:57, 1 Chronicles 1:1-34, 2:1-17, 3:1-24, 7:1-19, Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Acts 1:1-26
