...................................................................LET US LEARN TOGETHER WHAT IS GOOD. Job 34:4b(NIV)................................................................Some people see the Bible as a long and boring book filled with incidents and events from the lives of ancient people who probably never existed. The biblical stories are seen as fables. In this blog, many of the situations and conversations found in the Holy Scriptures have been placed in categories that correspond to expressive sayings and phrases. Reference information, background information and links connecting the people and places are given to help you find a place to begin reading the Bible for yourself.

Stop and Stand

And Joshua said unto the people, Sanctify yourselves: for tomorrow the LORD will do wonders among you. And Joshua spake unto the priests, saying, Take up the ark of the covenant, and pass over before the people. And they took up the ark of the covenant, and went before the people. And the LORD said unto Joshua, This day will I begin to magnify thee in the sight of all Israel, that they may know that, as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee. And thou shalt command the priests that bear the ark of the covenant, saying, When ye are come to the brink of the water of Jordan, ye shall stand still in Jordan. And Joshua said unto the children of Israel, Come hither, and hear the words of the LORD your God. And Joshua said, Hereby ye shall know that the living God is among you, and that he will without fail drive out from before you the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Hivites, and the Perizzites, and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Jebusites. Behold, the ark of the covenant of the LORD of all the earth passeth over before you into Jordan. Now therefore take you twelve men out of the tribes of Israel, out of every tribe a man. And it shall come to pass, as soon as the soles of the feet of the priests that bear the ark of the LORD, the Lord of all the earth, shall rest in the waters of Jordan, that the waters of Jordan shall be cut off from the waters that come down from above; and they shall stand upon an heap. And it came to pass, when the people removed from their tents, to pass over Jordan, and the priests bearing the ark of the covenant before the people; and as they that bare the ark were come unto Jordan, and the feet of the priests that bare the ark were dipped in the brim of the water, (for Jordan overfloweth all his banks all the time of harvest,) that the waters which came down from above stood and rose up upon an heap very far from the city Adam, that is beside Zaretan: and those that came down toward the sea of the plain, even the salt sea, failed, and were cut off: and the people passed over right against Jericho. And the priests that bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD stood firm on dry ground in the midst of Jordan, and all the Israelites passed over on dry ground, until all the people were passed clean over Jordan.-Joshua 3:5-17***The tribes of Israel are the families descended from Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Dan, Naphtali, Gad, Asher, Issachar,  Zebulun, Joseph, and Benjamin, the 12 sons born to Jacob (Israel) and his wives Leah and Rachel and maidservants Bilhah and Zilpah. Joseph's tribe consists of the families descended from Manasseh and Ephraim, the sons born to Joseph and Asenath, inasmuch as Jacob proclaimed Manasseh and Ephraim to be his own sons. In the divinely inspired Scriptures of the Holy Bible, the tribes of Manasseh and Ephraim usually always represent the tribe of Joseph. Decades before the Lord God promised to give the land of Canaan to Jacob and Jacob's descendants, the Lord God promised to give Canaan to Jacob's father Isaac and Isaac's descendants. Decades before the Lord God appeared and spoke to Isaac, the Lord God appeared and spoke to Isaac's father Abraham (Abram the Hebrew) and promised to give Canaan to Abraham and Abraham's descendants. Over 300 years after Levi was born to Jacob and Leah, Aaron and Moses were born in Egypt into the tribe of Levi. When Moses was 80 years old and Aaron was 83, they led the Israelites, and those with them, away from Egyptian slavery and across the dry bed of the divinely parted Red Sea, and into the desert wilderness. During the 40th year of their journey to the Promised Land, Aaron died and was buried upon Mount Hor, and Moses went upon Mount Nebo. The Lord God showed Moses the Promised Land, and Moses died and was divinely buried. Joshua, Moses' successor, was from the tribe of Ephraim. Joshua led the Israelites across the dry bed of the divinely parted Jordan River and onto the Promised Land. The priests, the sons and grandsons of Aaron, carried the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and 1 man from each of the Israelite tribes was selected for a specific upcoming assignment. Over 1,300 years after Joshua died and was buried in his tribe's portion of the Promised Land, Jesus the Christ, the Son of God, was born. Jesus was conceived of the Holy Spirit in the womb of Mary, a virgin, and Jesus was born into the tribe of Judah to Mary and her husband Joseph when Mary was a virgin.-Genesis 11:26-50:26, Exodus, Leviticus 8:1-9:24, Numbers 3:1-4:49, 18:1-32, 20:1-29, 27:12-23, Deuteronomy 1:1-46, 31:1-34:12, Joshua 1:1-4:24, 23:1-24:33, Judges 1:1-2:23, 1 Chronicles 1:1-34, 2:1-17, 3:1-24, 6:1-81, 7:20-29, Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Acts 1:1-26
