Two Sons

And it came to pass after these things, that one told Joseph, Behold, thy father is sick: and he took with him his two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim. And one told Jacob, and said, Behold, thy son Joseph cometh unto thee: and Israel strengthened himself, and sat upon the bed. And Jacob said unto Joseph, God Almighty appeared unto me at Luz in the land of Canaan, and blessed me, and said unto me, Behold, I will make thee fruitful, and multiply thee, and I will make of thee a multitude of people; and will give this land to thy seed after thee for an everlasting possession. And now thy two sons, Ephraim and Manasseh, which were born unto thee in the land of Egypt before I came unto thee into Egypt, are mine; as Reuben and Simeon, they shall be mine. And thy issue, which thou begettest after them, shall be thine, and shall be called after the name of their brethren in their inheritance.-Genesis 48:1-6***Esau (Edom) was the older fraternal twin brother of Jacob (Israel). Before Esau and Jacob were born, they were rivals. Decades thereafter, when Esau and Jacob were still living in Canaan in the family home with their parents Isaac and Rebekah, there was an incident between Esau and Jacob that involved stew. Jacob would not give Esau any of the stew until Esau sold his rights as firstborn to Jacob. When Isaac was quite old, Jacob followed the instructions of Rebekah and tricked Isaac into speaking a blessing over him that Isaac intended to speak over Esau. After Rebekah learned that Esau planned to kill Jacob, Rebekah spoke words that caused Isaac to send Jacob to Rebekah's family in Padan Aram in Haran, in northern Mesopotamia, to marry his uncle's daughter. Jacob left Canaan with only the clothes he was wearing and a walking stick in his hand. When Jacob stopped in Luz (Bethel) to sleep, he used a stone for a pillow. Jacob had a divine dream  wherein he saw angels going down and up a ladder and saw and heard the Lord God speaking promises to him. Jacob worked 7 years for Rebekah's brother Laban before Jacob married Laban's daughters Leah and Rachel. Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Zebulun, and daughter Dinah were born to Jacob and Leah. Dan and Naphtali were born to Jacob and Bilhah, Rachel's maidservant. Gad and Asher were born to Jacob and Zilpah, Leah's maidservant. Joseph was born to Jacob and Rachel. After Jacob and his family returned to Canaan, Benjamin was born to Jacob and Rachel, and Rachel died. Rachel had been Jacob's favorite wife, and Joseph was Jacob's favorite child. When Joseph was at least 17 years old, his brothers sold him to merchants traveling to Egypt and led Jacob to believe that Joseph was killed by an animal. In Egypt, the merchants sold Joseph to Potiphar, an Egyptian official. Potiphar imprisoned Joseph after Potiphar's wife made a false accusation. Less than 3 years after the butler and baker of Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, were sent to prison, Joseph became second-in-command in Egypt. The 2nd time that Joseph's brothers came from Canaan to Egypt to buy grain during a time of famine, Joseph identified himself to them and sent his brothers back to Canaan to bring their entire family, including Jacob, to live in Egypt. Thus, Jacob and Joseph were able to live near each another for 17 years before 147-year-old Jacob died in Egypt and his body was buried in Canaan. Over 1,500 years after Joseph and his siblings died in Egypt and their descendants were enslaved in Egypt, Jesus the Christ, the Son of God, was born. Jesus was conceived of the Holy Spirit in the womb of Mary, a virgin, and Jesus was born into the tribe of Judah to Mary and her husband Joseph when Mary was a virgin.-Genesis 11:26-50:26, Exodus, Numbers 20:1-29, 27:12-23, Deuteronomy 31:1-30, 32:44-52, 34:1-12, Joshua 1:1-4:24, 1 Chronicles 1:1-34, 2:1-17, 3:1-24, 8:1-40, 9:35-44, Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Acts 1:1-26
