Now these are the generations of Ishmael, Abraham's son, whom Hagar the Egyptian, Sarah's handmaid, bare unto Abraham: And these are the names of the sons of Ishmael, by their names, according to their generations: the firstborn of Ishmael, Nebajoth; and Kedar, and Adbeel, and Mibsam, And Mishma, and Dumah, and Massa, Hadar, and Tema, Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah: These are the sons of Ishmael, and these are their names, by their towns, and by their castles; twelve princes according to their nations. And these are the years of the life of Ishmael, an hundred and thirty and seven years: and he gave up the ghost and died; and was gathered unto his people. And they dwelt from Havilah unto Shur, that is before Egypt, as thou goest toward Assyria: and he died in the presence of all his brethren.-Genesis 25:12-18***Ishmael was born to Abraham (Abram the Hebrew) and Hagar when Abraham was 86 years old and in a childless marriage to his half sister and wife Sarah (Sarai). When Ishmael was in Hagar's womb, and Hagar ran from Abraham and Sarah's home, the angel of the Lord spoke to Hagar regarding Ishmael. When Abraham was 100 years old, Isaac was born to Abraham and 90-year-old Sarah. Sometime during the celebration held after Isaac was weaned, Sarah noticed Ishmael's behavior and told Abraham to cast Hagar and Ishmael away. The Lord God spoke to Abraham, and Abraham sent Hagar and Ishmael away from their home. After 127-year-old Sarah died, Abraham buried her body in a cave on property he bought in Canaan, the land inhabited by idolaters that the Lord God promised to give to Abraham's descendants and Abraham. After 175-year-old Abraham died, Ishmael and Isaac buried Abraham's body in the same cave. When Isaac was 40 years old, he was married to Rebekah, Abraham and Sarah's grandniece. When Isaac was 60 years old, fraternal twin sons Esau (Edom) and Jacob (Israel) were born to Isaac and Rebekah. Decades thereafter, Jacob was married to Rebekah's nieces Leah and Rachel, the daughters of Rebekah's brother Laban the Syrian (Aramean). Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Zebulun, and daughter Dinah were born to Jacob and Leah. Dan and Naphtali were born to Jacob and Bilhah, Rachel's maidservant. Gad and Asher were born to Jacob and Zilpah, Leah's maidservant. Joseph and Benjamin were born to Jacob and Rachel. Over 1,800 years after 147-year-old Jacob died in Egypt and his children buried his body in the cave in Canaan, and 110-year-old Joseph and his siblings were dead, Jesus the Christ, the Son of God, was born.
