...................................................................LET US LEARN TOGETHER WHAT IS GOOD. Job 34:4b(NIV)................................................................Some people see the Bible as a long and boring book filled with incidents and events from the lives of ancient people who probably never existed. The biblical stories are seen as fables. Romans 15:4 (KJV) reveals: For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope. In this blog, many of the situations and conversations found in the divinely inspired Scriptures of the Holy Bible have been placed in categories that correspond to expressive sayings and phrases. For My Wife's Sake

The Lord God and
Abraham (Abram the Hebrew) and Sarah (Sarai),
and Abimelech, a Philistine king:

And Abraham journeyed from thence toward the south country, and dwelled between Kadesh and Shur, and sojourned in Gerar. And Abraham said of Sarah his wife, She is my sister: and Abimelech king of Gerar sent, and took Sarah. But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night, and said to him, Behold, thou art but a dead man, for the woman which thou hast taken; for she is a man's wife. But Abimelech had not come near her: and he said, Lord, wilt thou slay also a righteous nation? Said he not unto me, She is my sister? and she, even she herself said, He is my brother: in the integrity of my heart and innocency of my hands have I done this. And God said unto him in a dream, Yea, I know that thou didst this in the integrity of thy heart; for I also withheld thee from sinning against me: therefore I thee not to touch her. Now therefore restore the man his wife; for he is a prophet, and he shall pray for thee, and thou shalt live: and if thou restore her not, know thou that thou shalt surely die, thou, and all that are thine. Therefore Abimelech rose early in the morning, and called all his servants, and told all these things in their ears: and the men were sore afraid. Then Abimelech called Abraham, and said unto him, What hast thou done unto us? and what have I offended thee, that thou hast brought on me and on my kingdom a great sin? thou hast done deeds unto me that ought not to be done. And Abimelech said unto Abraham, What sawest thou, that thou hast done this thing? And Abraham said, Because I thought, Surely the fear of God is not in this place; and they will slay me for my wife's sake. And yet indeed she is my sister; she is the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother; and she became my wife. And it came to pass, when God caused me to wander from my father's house, that I said unto her, This is thy kindness which thou shalt shew unto me; at every place whither we shall come, say of me, He is my brother. And Abimelech took sheep, and oxen, and menservants, and womenservants, and gave them unto Abraham, and restored him Sarah his wife. And Abimelech said, Behold, my land is before thee: dwell where it pleaseth thee. And unto Sarah he said, Behold, I have given thy brother a thousand pieces of silver: behold, he is to thee a covering of the eyes, unto all that are with thee, and with all other: thus she was reproved. So Abraham prayed unto God: and God healed Abimelech, and his wife, and his maidservants; and they bare children. For the LORD had fast closed up all the wombs of the house of Abimelech, because of Sarah Abraham's wife.-Genesis 20:1-18/the complete chapter

Believe You Me

From a letter written by the apostle Paul
to believers in Rome:

I say the truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Ghost, That I have great heaviness and continual sorrow in my heart. For I could wish that myself were accursed from Christ for my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh: Who are Israelites; to whom pertaineth the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises; Whose are the fathers, and of whom as concerning the flesh Christ came, who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen. Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect. For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel: Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, in Isaac shall thy seed be called. That is, They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God: but the children of the promise are counted for the seed. For this is the word of promise, At this time will I come, and Sara shall have a son. And not only this; but when Rebecca also had conceived by one, even by our father Isaac; (For the children being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth;) It was said unto her, The elder shall serve the younger. As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated. What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? God forbid. For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.-Romans 9:1-16***Abraham (Abram the Hebrew) was 75 years old and his wife Sarah (Sarai) was 65, and they were childless, when the Lord God appeared to Abraham and promised to give Canaan, a land inhabited by idolaters, to Abraham's descendants and Abraham. Abraham and Sarah were childless when the Lord God told Abraham to look at the land in every direction, and said that he would make Abraham have an innumerable number of descendants. Abraham and Sarah were childless when the word of the Lord God came to Abraham in a vision and Abraham spoke about being childless and spoke of his servant Eliezer. The Lord God promised Abraham that a son would be born to Abraham, and promised that Abraham would have an innumerable number of descendants. Abraham believed in the Lord God, and the Lord God accounted it to Abraham for righteousness. After Abraham questioned the Lord God, and Abraham was in a deep sleep, the Lord God told Abraham that Abraham's descendants would undergo 400 years of affliction in a foreign land before departing from the land with a vast amount of valuable goods and living in Canaan, and the Lord God made a covenant with Abraham. Ishmael was born to 86-year-old Abraham and Hagar, according Sarah's maidservant. Before Ishmael was born, the angel of the Lord spoke the words of the Lord God to Hagar and told Hagar to name the son Ishmael. When Abraham was 99 years old, the Lord God appeared to Abraham, and identified himself to Abraham. The Lord God gave Abraham a command, and gave Abraham and Sarah new names. The Lord God said he had made Abraham a father of many nations, and the Lord God promised to make Abraham exceedingly fruitful. The Lord God spoke of the nations and kings to come out from Abraham, and spoke of the everlasting covenant between the Lord God and Abraham and Abraham's descendants, and the everlasting possession of Canaan, and the Lord God gave Abraham the covenant of circumcision. The Lord God promised to bless Sarah, and the Lord God promised that a son would be born to Abraham and Sarah, and Sarah would be a mother of nations, and kings of people would come from Sarah. Abraham laughed, and spoke in his heart, and questioned the Lord God, and spoke of Ishmael to the Lord God. The Lord God spoke of Ishmael being blessed, fruitful, multiplied, bearing 12 princes, and being a great nation. The Lord God told Abraham that the son born to Abraham and Sarah must be named Isaac, and said that he would establish his covenant with Isaac. The Lord God spoke of his everlasting covenant and Isaac's descendants, and said Isaac would be born at the specified time the following year. Isaac was born to 100-year-old Abraham and 90-year-old Sarah. Isaac was born through the promise, and Ishmael was born according to flesh. After Isaac was weaned, Abraham sent Hagar and Ishmael away, according to Sarah's insistence and with assurance from the Lord God. The angel of the Lord spoke to Hagar and proclaimed, from heaven, the promises of the Lord God regarding Ishmael. Years thereafter, the Lord God tested Abraham and commanded Abraham to take Isaac to a specified place in Moriah and offer Isaac as a burnt offering. In Moriah, when Isaac was upon the altar, the angel of the Lord called to Abraham from heaven and proclaimed the words of the Lord God to Abraham 2 separate times. Three years after 127-year-old Sarah died, 40-year-old Isaac was married to Rebekah (Rebecca), Abraham and Sarah's grandniece. Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah were born to Abraham and Keturah, his 2nd wife. Before 175-year-old Abraham died, he gave his wealth and possessions to Isaac, and gave gifts to his other sons and sent them eastward, away from Isaac. The Lord God appeared to Isaac and promised to be with Isaac, and bless Isaac, and give Canaan to Isaac and Isaac's descendants. The Lord God promised to confirm the oath he swore to Abraham, and the Lord God promised to multiply Issac's descendants, and the Lord God said that in Isaac's descendants all nations shall be blessed. Similarly, over 100 years earlier, before Abraham and Sarah began living in Canaan, the Lord God promised to make Abraham a great nation, and promised to bless Abraham, and make Abraham's name great, and promised that Abraham shall be a blessing, and all families shall be blessed in Abraham. Fraternal twin sons Esau (Edom) and Jacob (Israel) were born to 60-year-old Isaac and Rebekah. The divinely inspired Scriptures of the Holy Bible reveal that Esau and Jacob struggled together while they were in Rebekah's womb, and Rebekah went to seek the Lord God, and the Lord God told Rebekah about the 2 nations in Rebekah's womb. Decades after Esau and Jacob were born, Jacob obeyed Rebekah and deceived Isaac and cheated Esau. After Rebekah learned that Esau planned to kill Jacob, she spoke words to Isaac that led him to send Jacob from their home in Canaan to Rebekah's family in Padan Aram, Haran. When Jacob was asleep and dreaming during his journey,  saw a divine sight and heard the Lord God speaking to him. The Lord God identified himself to Jacob, and promised to give Canaan to Jacob and to Jacob's descendants and promised that Jacob would have an innumerable number of descendants, and the Lord God promised that in Jacob and Jacob's descendants all families shall be blessed. The Lord God told Jacob that he is with Jacob and will bring Jacob back to Canaan and will not leave Jacob until he has done everything that he had spoken to Jacob. During Jacob's 7th year in Haran, Jacob was married to Leah and Rachel, the daughters of Rebekah's brother Laban the Syrian (Aramean). Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Zebulun, and daughter Dinah were born to Jacob and Leah. Dan and Naphtali were born to Jacob and Bilhah, Rachel's maidservant. Gad and Asher were born to Jacob and Zilpah, Leah's maidservant. Joseph was the 1st son born to Jacob and Rachel. During Jacob's 20th year in Haran, he began journeying  to Canaan with his wives, maidservants, children, and possessions, and Jacob experienced a divine wrestling encounter, and Jacob's name was changed. Sometime thereafter, the Lord God appeared to Jacob, and blessed Jacob, and gave Jacob a command, and spoke to Jacob about the nations and kings that shall come from Jacob, and the Lord God spoke to Jacob about Canaan. In Canaan, near Bethlehem, Benjamin was born to Jacob and Rachel, and Rachel died. When Jacob was 130 years old, he moved with his family from Canaan to Egypt, the country wherein Joseph was second-in-command. In Egypt, Jacob proclaimed Manasseh and Ephraim, the sons born to Joseph and his wife Asenath, to be his own sons. Sometime after 147-year-old Jacob died in Egypt and Jacob's family buried his body in Canaan, and 110-year-old Joseph and his siblings were dead, their descendants the Israelites were enslaved in Egypt. Miriam and her younger brothers Aaron and Moses were born into the tribe of Levi. When Moses was 80 years old and Aaron was 83, the Lord God sent them to speak to the Israelite elders and Pharaoh, the king of Egypt. After the Lord God brought the 10th and final plague upon Pharaoh and Egypt, Moses and Aaron  led the Israelites, and those with them, away from Egypt, across the divinely parted Red Sea, and into the desert wilderness of Shur. In the desert wilderness of Sinai, in the region of Mount Sinai, the Israelites heard the voice of the Lord God proclaim the Ten Commandments to them, and the Lord God began giving Moses judgments, statutes, and laws for the Israelites, and the Lord God made a covenant with the Israelites. When Moses was upon Mount Sinai 40 days and nights with the Lord God, the Lord God told Moses that only Aaron, and Aaron's sons and the sons born to their descendants were to serve the Lord God as priests. While the Israelites, and those with them, were still in the region of Mount Sinai, the Lord God spoke to Moses about the Levites, their duties and their relationship to the Lord God. During the 40-year journey to Canaan, the Promised Land, Miriam the prophetess died and was buried in Kadesh, in the desert wilderness of Zin. Upon Mount Hor, 123-year old Aaron the high priest died. When Moses went upon Mount Nebo, the Lord God showed Moses the Promised Land, and 120-year old Moses the prophet died and was divinely buried. Joshua, Moses' aide and  successor from the tribe of Ephraim, led the Israelites across the divinely parted Jordan River and onto the land that the Lord God promised to give to Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and their descendants. Over 400 years after 110-year-old Joshua died and was buried in his tribe's portion of the Promised Land, Rehoboam, the son born to King Solomon and Naamah, and grandson of King David and Bathsheba, became the 4th king to rule over all of the Israelites. After Rehoboam gave a specific answer, the Israelites split into 2 kingdoms, according to the will of the Lord God, due to the idolatry and other wickedness of Solomon. Judah was the nation in the south, Jerusalem was the royal city and Rehoboam was the 1st king to reign. Israel was the northern nation, Samaria was the final royal city and Jeroboam, the son born to Nebat and Zeruah, was the 1st king to reign. Less than 200 years after Jeroboam's son Nadab became the 2nd king to rule the northern nation of Israel, the Assyrians invaded the kingdom and conquered Samaria, according to the will of the Lord God, due to the idolatry and other wickedness of the Israelites. Less than 140 years after Samaria was conquered, the Babylonians (Chaldeans) invaded Judah and conquered Jerusalem, according to the will of the Lord God, due to the idolatry and other wickedness of the Israelites. Over 500 years after Israelites began returning to Judah and Jerusalem, John the Baptist and Jesus the Christ, the Son of God, were born. John the Baptist was born into the tribe of Levi to Zechariah (Zacharias) the priest and his wife Elizabeth (Elisabeth). Jesus the Christ was conceived of the Holy Spirit (Holy Ghost) in the womb of Elizabeth's relative Mary, a virgin, and Jesus was born into the tribe of Judah, the tribe of David and his descendants, all of Judah's kings, to Mary and her husband Joseph when Mary was a virgin. Approximately 30 years after John the Baptist and Jesus the Christ were born, Jesus was baptized in the Jordan River by John the Baptist. Jesus having prayed, the heavens tearing open, the Holy Spirit descended as a dove and lit upon Jesus. The Lord God in heaven audibly acknowledged his Son Jesus, and the Holy Spirit led Jesus into the desert wilderness. Jesus fasted 40 days and nights and was tempted. Afterwards, Jesus was tended to by angels, and Jesus went to the area near John the Baptist, and John the Baptist proclaimed Jesus to be the Lamb of God taking away the sin of the world, and testified that Jesus is the Son of God. In Galilee, Jesus told specific Israelite men to follow him, and Jesus began to preach, teach and perform miracles among the Israelites. Less than 3 1/2 years after Jesus was baptized, Jesus was betrayed by Judas Iscariot the disciple and apostle, and Jesus was arrested, crucified, buried in a tomb, resurrected, seen by over 500 people, and returned to heaven. Paul (Saul) was an Israelite from the tribe of Benjamin and did not believe Jesus to be the ChristThroughout Jerusalem, Paul persecuted and imprisoned  Israelites who believed Jesus to be the Christ of God. When Paul was journeying to the synagogues in Damascus, Syria, to find, bind and take to Jerusalem any Israelite believers he found, Paul and those with him saw a light from heaven flash around them. Paul heard the voice of Jesus speaking to him, and Paul spoke to Jesus, and obeyed Jesus. In Damascus Paul was baptized. From thenceforward, Paul the apostle journeyed and wrote divinely inspired letters, teaching Israelites and Gentiles, people not born into the Israelite tribes, the good news of Jesus the Christ, and everlasting life, and the need to be saved, and the eternal life available to anyone who confesses with their mouth the Lord is Jesus and believes in their heart that the Lord God raised Jesus out from the dead.-Genesis 11:26-50:26, Exodus, Numbers 20:1-29, 27:12-23, Deuteronomy 31:1-30, 32:44-52, 34:1-12, Joshua 1:1-4:24, 23:1-24:33, Judges 1:1-2:23, Ruth, 1 Samuel, 2 Samuel, 1 Kings, 2 Kings, 1 Chronicles 1:1-2:55, 3:1-24, 6:1-81, 7:20-29, 10:1-29:30, 2 Chronicles, Ezra, Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Acts 1:1-26, 6:1-8:4, 9:1-31, 11:19-28:31, Romans, 1 Corinthians, 2 Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, 1 Thessalonians, 2 Thessalonians, 1 Timothy, 2 Timothy, Titus, Philemon

Some Explaining

From a letter written by the apostle Paul (Saul)
to believers in Galatia, years after
in a tomb, resurrected, seen by over 500
people, and returned to heaven:

Tell me, ye that desire to be under the law, do ye not hear the law? For it is written, that Abraham had two sons, the one by a bondmaid, the other by a freewoman. But he who was of the bondwoman was born after the flesh; but he of the freewoman was by promise. Which things are an allegory: for these are the two covenants; the one from the mount Sinai, which gendereth to bondage, which is Agar. For this Agar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and answereth to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children. But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all. For it is written, Rejoice, thou barren that bearest not; break forth and cry, thou that travailest not: for the desolate hath many more children than she which hath an husband.-Galatians 4:21-27

Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise. But as then he that was born after the flesh persecuted him that was born after the Spirit, even so it is now. Nevertheless what saith the scripture? Cast out the bondwoman and her son: for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman. So then, brethren, we are not children of the bondwoman, but of the free.-Galatians 4:28-31

Agar = Hagar

allegory = allegoroumena/allegoreo = figurative explanation of fact(s)

gendereth = gennosa = bring forth, give birth, beget

Reference Scriptures:
And Abram said, Lord GOD, what wilt thou give me, seeing I go childless, and the steward of my house is this Eliezer of Damascus? And Abram said, Behold, to me thou hast given no seed: and, lo, one born in my house is mine heir. And, behold, the word of the LORD came unto him, saying, This shall not be thine heir; but he that shall come forth out of thine own bowels shall be thine heir.-Genesis 15:2-4

And Sarai Abram's wife took Hagar her maid the Egyptian, after Abram had dwelt ten years in the land of Canaan, and gave her to her husband Abram to be his wife. And he went in unto Hagar, and she conceived: and when she saw that she had conceived, her mistress was despised in her eyes.-Genesis 16:3-4...And Hagar bare Abram a son: and Abram called his son's name, which Hagar bare, Ishmael.-Genesis 16:15

And God said, Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a son indeed; and thou shalt call his name Isaac: and I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his seed after him. And as for Ishmael, I have heard thee: Behold, I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly; twelve princes shall he beget, and I will make him a great nation. But my covenant will I establish with Isaac, which Sarah shall bear unto thee at this set time in the next year.-Genesis 17:19-21

And the LORD visited Sarah as he had said, and the LORD did unto Sarah as he had spoken. For Sarah conceived, and bare Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him. And Abraham called the name of his son that was born unto him, whom Sarah bare to him, Isaac.-Genesis 21:1-3...And Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian, which she had born unto Abraham, mocking. Wherefore she said unto Abraham, Cast out this bondwoman and her son: for the son of this bondwoman shall not be heir with my son, even with Isaac.-Genesis 21:9-10

These are the statutes and judgments and laws, which the LORD made between him and the children of Israel in mount Sinai by the hand of Moses.-Leviticus 26:46

Sing, O barren, thou that didst not bear; break forth into singing, and cry aloud, thou that didst not travail with child: for more are the children of the desolate than the children of the married wife, saith the LORD.-Isaiah 54:1

Roll Call

Ishmael and his descendants

Now these are the generations of Ishmael, Abraham's son, whom Hagar the Egyptian, Sarah's handmaid, bare unto Abraham: And these are the names of the sons of Ishmael, by their names, according to their generations: the firstborn of Ishmael, Nebajoth; and Kedar, and Adbeel, and Mibsam, And Mishma, and Dumah, and Massa, Hadar, and Tema, Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah: These are the sons of Ishmael, and these are their names,
by their towns, and by their castles; twelve princes according to their nations. And these are the years of the life of Ishmael, an hundred and thirty and seven years: and he gave up the ghost and died; and was gathered unto his people. And they dwelt from Havilah unto Shur, that is before Egypt, as thou goest toward Assyria: and he died in the presence of all his brethren
.-Genesis 25:12-18***Ishmael was born to Abraham (Abram the Hebrew) and maidservant Hagar when Abraham was 86 years old and in a childless marriage to Sarah (Sarai). The divinely inspired Scriptures of the Holy Bible reveal that when Ishmael was in Hagar's womb, and Hagar ran from Abraham and Sarah's home, the angel of the Lord spoke to Hagar. Isaac was born to 100-year-old Abraham and 90-year-old Sarah. Sometime during the celebration held after Isaac was weaned, Sarah noticed Ishmael's behavior and told Abraham to cast Hagar and Ishmael away. The Lord God spoke to Abraham, and Abraham sent Hagar and Ishmael away. After 127-year-old Sarah died, Abraham bought land owned by Ephron the Hittite and buried Sarah's body in the cave on the property. Ephron was descended from Heth, and Heth was born to Canaan, and Canaan was born to Ham, and Ham was born to Noah the ark builder. Abraham and Sarah were descended from Noah's son Shem, and Shem's son Arphaxad, and Arphaxad's great-great-great-great-great-grandson Terah. After 175-year-old Abraham died, Ishmael and Isaac buried Abraham's body in the same cave. Isaac was 40 years old when he was married to Rebekah, Abraham and Sarah's grandniece. Fraternal twin sons Esau (Edom) and Jacob (Israel) were born to 60-year-old Isaac and Rebekah. In Padan Aram, Haran, Jacob was married to Leah and Rachel, the daughters of Rebekah's brother Laban the Syrian (Aramean). Approximately 1,900 years after Benjamin was born near Bethlehem to Jacob and Rachel, and Rachel died, Jesus the Christ, the Son of God, was born. Jesus was conceived of the Holy Spirit in the womb of Mary, a virgin, and Jesus was born in Bethlehem into the tribe of Judah to Mary and her husband Joseph when Mary was a virgin.-Genesis 11:26-50:26, Exodus, Numbers 20:1-29, 27:12-23, Deuteronomy 31:1-30, 32:44-52, 34:1-12, Joshua 1:1-4:24, 1 Chronicles 1:1-2:1-17, 3:1-24, Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Acts 1:1-26

Just Obedience

The death of Jacob (Israel)

And he charged them, and said unto them, I am to be gathered unto my people: bury me with my fathers in the cave that is in the field of Ephron the Hittite, In the cave that is in the field of Machpelah, which is before Mamre, in the land of Canaan, which Abraham bought with the field of Ephron the Hittite for a possession of a buryingplace. There they buried Abraham and Sarah his wife; there they buried Isaac and Rebekah his wife; and there I buried Leah. The purchase of the field and of the cave that is therein was from the children of Heth. And when Jacob had made an end of commanding his sons, he gathered up his feet to into the bed, and yielded up the ghost, and was gathered unto his people. And Joseph fell upon his father's face, and wept upon him, and kissed him. And Joseph commanded his servants the physicians to embalm his father: and the physicians embalmed Israel. A
nd forty days were fulfilled for him; for so are fulfilled the days of those which are embalmed: and the
Egyptians mourned for him threescore and ten days. And when the days of his mourning were past, Joseph spake unto the house of Pharaoh, saying, If now I have found grace in your eyes, speak, I pray you, in the ears of Pharaoh, saying, My father made me swear, saying, Lo, I die: in my grave which I have digged for me in the land of Canaan, there shalt thou bury me. Now therefore let me go up, I pray thee, and bury my father, and l will come again. And Pharaoh said, Go up, and bury thy father, according as he made thee swear. And Joseph went up to bury his father: and with him went up all the servants of Pharaoh, the elders of his house, and all the elders of the land of Egypt, And all the house of Joseph, and his brethren, and his father's house: only their little ones, and their flocks, and their herds, they left in the land of Goshen. And there went up with him both chariots and horsemen: and it was a very great company. And they came to the threshingfloor of Atad, which is beyond Jordan, and there they mourned with a great and very sore lamentation: and he made a mourning for his father seven days. And when the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites, saw the mourning in the floor of Atad, they said, This is a grievous mourning to the Egyptians: wherefore the name of it was called Abel-mizraim, which is beyond Jordan. And his sons did unto him according as he commanded them: For his sons carried him into the land of Canaan, and buried him in the cave of the field of Machpelah, which Abraham bought with the field for a possession of a buryingplace of Ephron the Hittite, before Mamre. And Joseph returned into Egypt, he, and his brethren, and all that went up with him to bury his father, after he had buried his father
.-Genesis 49:29-50:14***The Hittites descended from Noah the ark builder, and Noah's son Ham, and Ham's son Canaan, and Canaan's son Heth. The Israelites descended from Noah's son Shem, and Shem's great-great-great-great-great-great-great-grandchildren Abraham (Abram the Hebrew) and Sarah (Sarai), their son Isaac and his wife Rebekah, and Isaac and Rebekah's youngest fraternal twin son Jacob (Israel). When the Lord God promised to give Canaan to Abraham, and Isaac, and to Jacob, and their descendants, a multitude of idol worshiping inhabitants, including the Hittites, were living throughout Canaan. After 127-year-old Sarah died, Abraham bought a cave and its surrounding land from Ephron the Hittite, in Canaan, in the area of Mamre/Kirjatharba/Hebron. Joseph was the 1st son born to Jacob and Rachel, his 2nd wife. Rachel and Joseph were Jacob's favorites. When Joseph was at least 17 years old, his brothers sold him to merchants traveling to Egypt, and Joseph's brothers led Jacob to believe that Joseph was killed by a beast. In Egypt, Joseph went from being the top enslaved person in the home of Potiphar, an Egyptian official, to being a highly trusted prisoner, to being second-in-command in Egypt. After Joseph's brothers went to Egypt a 2nd time, due to a famine in Canaan, Joseph and his brothers were reunited. Joseph sent his brothers to Canaan to bring 130-year-old Jacob and their families to live in Egypt, with the permission, generosity and hospitality of Pharaoh, the king of Egypt. Sometime before 147-year-old Jacob died in Egypt, Jacob led Joseph to vow that he would  bury Jacob's body in the burial cave in Canaan. Moreover, Jacob gave his other sons similar instructions. Before 110-year-old Joseph died, Joseph led the Israelites to vow that they would carry his bones with them when the Lord God brought the Israelites out of Egypt and into the Promised Land. Sometime thereafter, their descendants the Israelites were enslaved in Egypt. Miriam and her younger brothers Aaron and Moses were Israelites from the tribe of Levi, descended from Jacob and his 1st wife Leah, and Jacob and Leah's 3rd born son Levi. When Moses was 80 years old and Aaron was 83, the Lord God sent them to speak to the Israelite elders, and Pharaoh, the king of Egypt. After the Lord God brought the 10th and final plague upon Pharaoh and Egypt, Moses and Aaron led the Israelites, and those with them, away from Egypt, across the divinely parted Red Sea, and into the desert wilderness of Shur.  Moses carried Joseph's bones with him. During the 40-year journey to the Promised Land, Miriam died and was buried in Kadesh, in the desert wilderness of Zin. Upon Mount Hor, 123-year-old Aaron died and was buried. Shortly thereafter, Moses went upon Mount Nebo, and the Lord God showed Moses the Promised Land, and Moses died and was divinely buried. Joshua, Moses' successor from the tribe of Ephraim, was descended from Joseph and his wife Asenath, and Joseph and Asenath's 2nd born son Ephraim, whom Jacob proclaimed to be his own son. Joshua led the Israelites across the divinely parted Jordan River and onto the Promised Land. In Shechem, the Israelites buried Joseph's bones. Over 475 years earlier, Jacob purchased the same portion of land from a group of Hivites, descendants of Canaan. Over 1,300 years after 110-year-old Joshua died and was buried in his tribe's portion of the Promised Land, Jesus the Christ, the Son of God, was born. Jesus was conceived of the Holy Spirit in the womb of Mary, a virgin, and Jesus was born into the tribe of Jacob and Leah's 4th born son Judah to Mary and her husband Joseph when Mary was a virgin.-Genesis, Exodus, Numbers 20:1-29, 27:12-23, Deuteronomy 31:1-30, 32:44-52, 34:1-12, Joshua 1:1-4:24, 23:1-24:33, Judges 1:1-2:23, 1 Samuel, 2 Samuel, 1 Kings, 2 Kings, 1 Chronicles 1:1-34, 2:1-17, 3:1-24, 6:1-81, 7:20-29, 10:1-29:30, 2 Chronicles, Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Acts 1:1-26

Get to Gettin'

Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee: And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed. So Abram departed, as the LORD had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran. And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother's son, and all their substance that they had gathered, and the souls that they had gotten in Haran; and they went forth to go into the land of Canaan; and into the land of Canaan they came. And Abram passed through the land unto the place of Sichem, unto the plain of Moreh. And the Canaanite was then in the land. And the LORD appeared unto Abram, and said, Unto thy seed will I give this land: and there builded he an altar unto the LORD, who appeared unto him. And he removed from thence unto a mountain on the east of Bethel, and pitched his tent, having Bethel on the west, and Hai on the east: and there he builded an altar unto the LORD, and called upon the name of the LORD.-Genesis 12:1-8***When Abraham (Abram the Hebrew) was living with his family in an idolatrous environment in Ur, in southern Mesopotamia, the Lord God told Abraham to leave his country and kin and come into the land he would be shown. Abraham journeyed away from Ur with his wife Sarah (Sarai), their father Terah, and nephew Lot, and began living in Haran (Charran), in northern Mesopotamia. Sometime after 205-year-old Terah died in Haran, the Lord God spoke to Abraham, and Abraham, Sarah and Lot journeyed with their servants and possessions to Canaan, the land that became known as the Promised Land. Before 175-year-old Abraham died in Canaan, Abraham:

-received an abundance of goods from Pharaoh, the king of Egypt.

-gave Lot the opportunity to choose the portion of land wherein he wanted to live.

-received promises from the Lord God about Canaan and Abraham's descendants.

-rescued Lot and others from 4 enemy kings and gave 10% of the captured goods to Melchizedek (Melchisedec) the priest.

-was in a deep sleep while the Lord God made a covenant with him.

-was intimate with Hagar, Sarah's Egyptian maidservant, according to Sarah's suggestion and with Sarah's permission. Ishmael was born to 86-year-old Abraham and Hagar.

-received assurance from the Lord God. The Lord God gave Abraham and Sarah a new name, and the Lord God gave Abraham the covenant of circumcision. Afterwards, 99-year-old Abraham circumcised 13-year-old Ishmael, and Abraham and every male associated with Abraham's household was immediately circumcised.

-received a visit from the Lord and 2 angels and was given assurance that Sarah would give birth to a son, although Sarah had never given birth to a child.

-hospitably steered the 2 angels towards Sodom and spoke to the Lord God about any righteous inhabitants in Sodom.

-saw the smoke rising from Sodom, Gomorrah and the entire area.

-received an abundance of goods from King Abimelech, the Philistine ruler of Gerar.

-circumcised Isaac, the only child born to Abraham and Sarah. Abraham was 100 years old and Sarah was 90 when Isaac was born, and  Abraham circumcised Isaac on the 8th day after Isaac was born.

-sent Hagar and Ishmael away, following Ishmael's actions, Sarah's request, and with permission and assurances from the Lord God.

-made a covenant with Abimelech, a Philistine king.

-obeyed the command of the Lord God and took Isaac to a mountain in Moriah in Canaan to offer Isaac as a burnt offering.

-bought a cave and its surrounding land from Ephron, a Hittite property owner in Canaan, to bury Sarah's body after 127-year-old Sarah died.

-sent his top servant to relatives in Haran, to find a maiden among them to become Isaac's wife. The servant returned with Rebekah.

-was married to Keturah. Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah were born to Abraham and Keturah.

Notably, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and some their ancestors, and some of their descendants who reigned in Jerusalem in the Promised Land are listed in the biblical genealogies of Jesus the Christ, the Son of God.-Genesis 11:26-50:26, Exodus, Numbers 20:1-29, 27:12-23, Deuteronomy 31:1-30, 32:44-52, 34:1-12, Joshua 1:1-4:24, 1 Chronicles 1:1-2:17, 3:1-24, Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Acts 1:1-26, 6:1-8:4
