...................................................................LET US LEARN TOGETHER WHAT IS GOOD. Job 34:4b(NIV)................................................................Some people see the Bible as a long and boring book filled with incidents and events from the lives of ancient people who probably never existed. The biblical stories are seen as fables. Notably, Romans 15:4 reveals: For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.(KJV) In this blog, many of the situations and conversations found in the divinely inspired Scriptures of the Holy Bible have been placed in categories that correspond to expressive sayings and phrases. Reference information, background information and links connecting the people and places are given to help you find a place to begin reading the Bible for yourself.

Understand, Man

From the Epistle of James,
in the New Testament of the Holy Bible:

What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him? If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, and one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar? Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect? And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God. Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only. Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way? For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.-James 2:14-26***Abraham (Abram the Hebrew), and his son Isaac, and Isaac's youngest fraternal twin son Jacob (Israel), and Jacob's 4th born son Judah are listed in both of the biblical genealogies of Jesus the Christ, the Son of God. In the genealogy in the Gospel of Matthew in the Holy Bible, verse 1:5 lists Rahab (Rachab). Among many biblical scholars, Rahab is widely regarded to be the woman who lived in Jericho in Canaan in the Promised Land. When Abraham was at least 75 years old, the Lord God promised to give Canaan to Abraham's descendants and Abraham. Sometime thereafter, the Lord God made a covenant with Abraham when Abraham was in a deep sleep. The Lord God told Abraham that Abraham's descendants would undergo 400 years of affliction in a foreign land, and the Lord God would judge the nation, and Abraham's descendants would come away from the land with a vast amount of valuable goods and live in Canaan. When Abraham was 100 years old, Isaac was born to Abraham and his 90-year-old wife Sarah (Sarai). Decades thereafter, the Lord God promised to give Canaan to Isaac and Isaac's descendants. Fraternal twin sons Esau (Edom) and Jacob were born to Isaac and his wife Rebekah, Abraham and Sarah's grandniece. Decades thereafter, the Lord God promised to give Canaan to Jacob and Jacob's descendants. Moreover, Jacob was married to Leah and Rachel, the daughters of Rebekah's brother Laban the Syrian (Aramean). When Jacob was 130 years old, he moved with his family from Canaan to Egypt, the country wherein Joseph, the 1st son born to Jacob and Rachel, was second-in-command. In Egypt, Jacob proclaimed Manasseh and Ephraim, the sons born to Joseph and his wife Asenath, to be his own sons. Sometime after 147-year-old Jacob died in Egypt and Jacob's family buried his body in Canaan, and 110-year-old Joseph and his siblings were dead, their descendants the Israelites were enslaved in Egypt. Miriam and her younger brothers Aaron and Moses were Israelites from the tribe of Jacob's 3rd born son Levi. When Moses was 80 years old and Aaron was 83, they led the Israelites away from Egypt, across the divinely parted Red Sea, and into the desert wilderness of Shur, according to the commands of the Lord God. During the 40-year journey to Canaan, the Promised Land, Miriam died and was buried in Kadesh, in the desert wilderness of Zin. Upon Mount Hor, 123-year-old Aaron died. When Moses went upon Mount Nebo, the Lord God showed Moses the Promised Land, and 120-year-old Moses died and was divinely buried. Shortly thereafter, Joshua, Moses' successor from the tribe of Ephraim, sent 2 Israelites across the Jordan River to secretly evaluate the land, including Jericho. The 2 spies came upon Rahab's house and Rahab hid the spies and lied to protect them. Rahab told the spies about her belief in the Lord God and her knowledge of the Lord God and the Israelites. Moreover, Rahab asked for and received a promise from the spies that secured the safety of her entire household. Over 1,400 years after Joshua led the Israelites across the divinely parted Jordan River and onto the Promised Land, John the Baptist and Jesus the Christ were born. John the Baptist was born into the tribe of Levi to Zechariah (Zacharias) the priest and his wife Elizabeth (Elisabeth). Jesus was conceived of the Holy Spirit in the womb of Elizabeth's relative  Mary, a virgin, and Jesus was born into the tribe of Jacob and Leah's 4th born son Judah to Mary and her husband Joseph when Mary was a virgin. Approximately 30 years after Jesus was born to Joseph and Mary, Jesus was baptized in the Jordan River by John the Baptist. Jesus having prayed, the heavens tearing open, the Holy Spirit descended as a dove and lit upon Jesus. The Lord God in heaven audibly acknowledged his Son Jesus, and the Holy Spirit led Jesus into the desert wilderness. Jesus fasted 40 days and nights and was tempted. Afterwards, Jesus was tended to by angels, and Jesus went to the area near John the Baptist, and John the Baptist proclaimed Jesus to be the Lamb of God taking away the sin of the world. In Galilee, Jesus told specific Israelite men to follow him, and Jesus began to preach, teach and perform miracles among the Israelites, the treasured and chosen people of the Lord God. Less than 3 1/2 years after Jesus was baptized, Jesus was betrayed, arrested, crucified, buried in a tomb, resurrected, seen by over 500 people, and returned to heaven. Sometime thereafter, James, widely regarded to be a sibling who lived with other siblings in the house in Nazareth, Galilee, with Joseph, Mary and Jesus, wrote a divinely inspired letter to Israelite believers.-Genesis 11:26-50:26, Exodus, Numbers 20:1-21:35, 27:12-23, Deuteronomy 1:1-46, 31:1-30, 32:44-52, 34:1-12, Joshua 1:1-6:27, 23:1-24:33, Judges 1:1-2:23, 1 Chronicles 1:1-34, 2:1-17, 3:1-24, 6:1-81, 7:20-29, Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Acts 1:1-26, Hebrews 11:1-40, James
