...................................................................LET US LEARN TOGETHER WHAT IS GOOD. Job 34:4b(NIV)................................................................Some people see the Bible as a long and boring book filled with incidents and events from the lives of ancient people who probably never existed. The biblical stories are seen as fables. Notably, Romans 15:4 reveals: For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.(KJV) In this blog, many of the situations and conversations found in the divinely inspired Scriptures of the Holy Bible have been placed in categories that correspond to expressive sayings and phrases. Reference information, background information and links connecting the people and places are given to help you find a place to begin reading the Bible for yourself.

A Dream Seen
And Jacob went out from Beersheba, and went toward Haran. And he lighted upon a certain place, and tarried there all night, because the sun was set; and he took of the stones of that place, and put them for his pillows, and lay down in that place to sleep. And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it. And, behold, the LORD stood above it, and said, I am the LORD God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac: the land whereon thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed; And thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south: and in thee and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed. And, behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee in all places whither thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of. And Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said, Surely the LORD is in this place; and I knew it not. And he was afraid, and said, How dreadful is this place! this is none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven. And Jacob rose up early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put for his pillows, and set it up for a pillar, and poured oil upon the top of it. And he called the name of that place Bethel: but the name of that city was called Luz at first.-Genesis 28:10-19***When Abraham (Abram the Hebrew) lived in Ur in southern Mesopotamia, the Lord God told Abraham to leave his country and kin and come into the land he would be shown. Abraham, his wife Sarah (Sarai), their father Terah, and nephew Lot left Ur and journeyed to Haran, in northern Mesopotamia. Sometime after 205-year-old Terah died in Haran, Abraham, Sarah, Lot, and their servants journeyed to Canaan. The Lord God promised to give Canaan to Abraham's descendants and Abraham, and Abraham and Sarah lived in several places throughout Canaan, including Hebron (Kirjath-arba) and Gerar. When Abraham was 86 years old, Ishmael was born to Abraham and Hagar, Sarah's maidservant. Isaac was born to 100-year-old Abraham and 90-year-old Sarah. When Isaac was 37 years old, 127-year-old Sarah died in Hebron. A few years thereafter, Abraham sent his top servant to Haran to bring a young lady from the family for Isaac to marry. The servant prayed and came in contact with Rebekah, Abraham and Sarah's grandniece, and Rebekah became Isaac's wife. Isaac and Rebekah lived in Gerar, and the Lord God promised to give Canaan to Isaac and Isaac's descendants, and Isaac and Rebekah lived in Beersheba. Fraternal twin sons Esau (Edom) and Jacob (Israel) were born to 60-year-old Isaac and Rebekah. During a deception instigated by Rebekah, Jacob tricked Isaac into giving him the blessing due firstborn son Esau. When Rebekah learned that Esau planned to kill Jacob, her words to Isaac led Isaac to send Jacob to seek a bride for himself from among Rebekah's family members in Padan Aram, Haran. During Jacob's 7th year in Haran, he was married to Rebekah's nieces Leah and Rachel, the daughters of Rebekah's brother Laban the Syrian (Aramean). Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Zebulun, and daughter Dinah were born to Jacob and Leah. Dan and Naphtali were born to Jacob and Bilhah, Rachel's maidservant. Gad and Asher were born to Jacob and Zilpah, Leah's maidservant. After Joseph was born to Jacob and Rachel, Jacob wanted to return to Canaan and made a deal with Laban. When Jacob heard the words being spoken to Laban, and heard the words of the Lord God, Jacob spoke to Leah and Rachel, and they began journeying to Canaan with their family, servants and possessions. Jacob became involved in a divine wrestling encounter, and reunited with Esau, and Jacob and his family lived in several places before the Lord God told Jacob to live in Bethel. While journeying with his family away from Bethel, Jacob and Rachel's 2nd son Benjamin was born in Bethlehem, and Rachel died. After Jacob and his family arrived in Hebron, Jacob was reunited with Isaac. When Jacob was 130 years old, he moved with his family from Canaan to Egypt, the country wherein Joseph was second-in-command. Over 1,800 years after 147-year-old Jacob died in Egypt and Jacob's family buried his body in Canaan, Jesus the Christ, the Son of God, was born. Jesus was conceived of the Holy Spirit in the womb of Mary, a virgin, and Jesus was born in Bethlehem into the tribe of Judah to Mary and her husband Joseph when Mary was a virgin.-Genesis 11:26-50:26, Exodus, Numbers 20:1-29, 27:12-23, Deuteronomy 31:1-30, 32:44-52, 34:1-12, Joshua 1:1-4:24, 1 Chronicles 1:1-34, 2:1-17, 3:1-24, Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Acts 1:1-26
