The words of the Lord God

to Jeremiah the prophet:

For thus saith the LORD God of Israel unto me; Take the wine cup of this fury at my hand, and cause all the nations, to whom I send thee, to drink it. And they shall drink, and be moved, and be mad, because of the sword that I will send among them. Then took I the cup at the LORD's hand, and made all the nations to drink, unto whom the LORD had sent me:-Jeremiah 25:15-17

To wit, Jerusalem, and the cities of Judah, and the kings thereof, and the princes thereof, to make them a desolation, an astonishment, an hissing, and a curse; as it is this day; Pharaoh king of Egypt, and his servants, and his princes, and all his people; And all the mingled people, and all kings of the land of Uz, and all the kings of the land of the Philistines, and Asheklon, and Azzah, and Ekron, and the remnant of Ashdod. Edom, and Moab, and the children of Ammon. And all the kings of Tyrus, and all the kings of Zidon, and the kings of the isles which are beyond the sea, Dedan, and Tema, and Buz, and all that are in the utmost corners, And all the kings of Arabia, and all the kings of the mingled people that dwell in the desert, And all the kings of Zimri, and all the kings of Elam, and all the kings of the Medes, And all the kings of the north, far and near, one with another, and all the kingdoms of the world, which are upon the face of the earth: and the king of Sheshach shall drink after them.-Jeremiah 25:18-26

Therefore thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Drink ye, and be drunken, and spue, and fall, and rise no more, because of the sword which I will send among you. And it shall be, if they refuse to take the cup at thine hand to drink, then shalt thou say unto them, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Ye shall certainly drink. For, lo, I begin to bring evil on the city which is called by my name, and should ye be utterly unpunished? Ye shall not be unpunished: for I will call for a sword upon all the inhabitants of the earth, saith the LORD of hosts. Therefore prophesy thou against them all these words, and say unto them, the LORD shall roar from on high, and utter his voice from his holy habitation; he shall mightily roar upon his habitation; he shall give a shout, as they that tread the grapes, against all the inhabitants of the earth. A noise shall come even to the ends of the earth; for the LORD hath a controversy with the nations, he will plead with all flesh; he will give them that are wicked to the sword, saith the LORD.-Jeremiah 25:27-31

Thus saith the LORD of hosts, Behold, evil shall go forth from nation to nation, and a great whirlwind shall be raised up from the coasts of the earth. And the slain of the LORD shall be at that day from one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth: they shall not be lamented, neither gathered, nor buried; they shall be dung upon the ground.-Jeremiah 25:32-33

 Background Information: 

In Canaan, the Promised Land, over 90 years after the Assyrians  invaded the northern nation of Israel and conquered the royal city, Samaria, and approximately 18 years before the Babylonians  (Chaldeans) invaded Judah, the nation in the south, and conquered  the royal city, Jerusalem, the Lord God gave Jeremiah messages about:

-Egypt and its inhabitants.

-the kings of Uz. Uz was associated with Job, and with the children of Aram, and the children of Dishan, and the Edomites, the descendants of Esau (Edom). Esau was the older fraternal twin brother of Jacob (Israel).

-the kings of the Philistines, including those in Ashkelon (Askelon), Gaza (Azzah), Ekron, and Ashdod.

-the kings of Edom, and Moab, and the children of Ammon.

-the kings of Tyre (Tyrus) and Sidon (Zidon). Sidon was associated with Canaan, the son of Ham and grandson of Noah the ark builder.

-the kings of Dedan, Tema, and Buz. Dedan was associated with Cush, and Edom, and Abraham (Abram the Hebrew), and Keturah. Tema was associated with Abraham, Hagar and their son Ishmael. Buz was associated with Abraham's brother Nahor (Nachor) and Nahor's wife Milcah.

-the kings of Arabia.

-the kings of Elam and the Medes (Media). Elam was associated with Shem, and Media, and Persia, and with a king who captured Lot. Media was associated with Japheth and Persia.

-the king of Sheshach.

A message the Lord God

revealed to Zephaniah the prophet:

Gather yourselves together, yea, gather together, O nation not desired; Before the decree bring forth, before the day pass as the chaff, before the fierce anger of the LORD come upon you. Seek ye the LORD, all ye meek of the earth, which have wrought his judgment; seek righteousness, seek meekness: it may be ye shall be hid in the day of the LORD's anger. For Gaza shall be forsaken, and Ashkelon a desolation: they shall drive out Ashdod at the noon day, and Ekron shall be rooted up. Woe unto the inhabitants of the sea coast, the nation of the Cherethites! the word of the LORD is against you; O Canaan, the land of the Philistines, I will even destroy thee, that there shall be no inhabitant. And the sea coast shall be dwellings and cottages for shepherds, and folds for flocks. And the coast shall be for the remnant of the house of Judah; they shall feed thereupon: in the houses of Askhelon shall they lie down in the evening: for the LORD their God shall visit them, and turn away their captivity. I have heard the reproach of Moab, and the revilings of the children of Ammon, whereby they have reproached my people, and magnified themselves against their border. Therefore as I live, saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, Surely Moab shall be as Sodom, and the children of Ammon as Gomorrah, even the breeding of nettles, and saltpits, and a perpetual desolation: the residue of my people shall spoil them, and the remnant of my people shall possess them. This shall they have for their pride, because they have reproached and magnified themselves against the people of the LORD of hosts. The LORD will be terrible unto them: for he will famish all the gods of the earth; and men shall worship him, every one from his place, even all the isles of the heathen.-Zephaniah 2:1-11***The people of the Lord of hosts are the Israelites, the descendants of Noah the ark builder, his son Shem, Shem's son Arphaxad, Arphaxad's great-great-great-great-great-grandson Terah, Terah's children Abraham (Abram the Hebrew) and Sarah (Sarai), their son Isaac and his wife Rebekah, and Isaac and Rebekah's youngest fraternal twin son Jacob (Israel). Zephaniah was an Israelite and a prophet of the Lord God. King Josiah was an Israelite and the 15th king to rule Judah, the southern nation in the Promised Land, the land that the Lord God promised to give to Abraham, and Isaac, and to Jacob, and their descendants. Approximately 70 years before Josiah was born, the Assyrians invaded the northern nation of Israel in the Promised Land and conquered the royal city, Samaria, according to the will of the Lord God, due to the idolatry and other wickedness of the Israelites. During Josiah's reign, Zephaniah proclaimed the words of the Lord God to the Israelites. The divinely inspired Scriptures of the Holy Bible reveal that the Lord God gave Zephaniah messages about the great day of the Lord, and the events to occur on that day, and messages about the Cherethites  (Cherethim), and Gaza, Ashkelon, Ashdod, Ekron, Canaan, and the children of Moab and Ammon..The Cherethites were associated and identified with the Philistines and the Cretans (Cretes/Cretians) of Crete. A group of Cherethites were loyal to Josiah's great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-grandfather King David, the 2nd king to rule over all of the Israelites in the Promised Land. Before the Lord God promised to give Canaan to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the Philistines and other idol worshiping inhabitants were living throughout the land. Joshua was an Israelite from the tribe of Ephraim, descended from Jacob and his 2nd wife Rachel, their firstborn son Joseph and his wife Asenath, and Joseph and Asenath's 2nd born son Ephraim, whom Jacob proclaimed to be his own son. After Joshua led the Israelites across the divinely parted Jordan River and onto the Promised Land, the Philistines and other idol worshipers continued living throughout the land and were enemies of the Israelites. Gaza, Ashkelon (Askelon), Ashdod, and Ekron, were principal cities of the Philistines, and were located in the portion of the Promised Land allotted to the tribe of Jacob's 4th born son Judah, the birth tribe of David and Josiah. The Philistines were descendants of Noah's son Ham, Ham's son Mizraim, and Mizraim's son Casluhim. The Moabites and Ammonites descended from Abraham and Sarah's nephew Lot and Lot's daughters, and were usually enemies of the Israelites. Moab was the son born to Lot and his oldest daughter, and Ben-ammi was the son born to Lot and Lot's youngest daughter. Jehoiakim  (Eliakim), the son born to Josiah and Zebudah, was the 17th king to rule Judah. During Jehoiakim's 11-year reign, the Babylonians (Chaldeans) invaded Judah and Jerusalem and King Nebuchadnezzar, ruler of Babylon, began looting the temple of the Lord. Jehoiachin (Jeconiah/Coniah), the son born to Jehoiakim and Nehushta, was the 18th king to rule Judah. During Jehoiachin's 3-month reign, the Babylonians took more prominent Israelites, including Jehoiachin, his wives and mother, to Babylon. Zedekiah (Mattaniah), the son born to Josiah and Hamutal, was the 19th king to rule Judah. During the 11th year of Zedekiah's reign, the Babylonians conquered the royal city, Jerusalem, according to the will of the Lord God, due to the idolatry and other wickedness of the Israelites. Over 500 years after Israelites began returning to Judah and Jerusalem, John the Baptist and Jesus the Christ, the Son of God, were born. John the Baptist was born into the tribe of Jacob's 3rd born son Levi to Zechariah (Zacharias) the priest and his wife Elizabeth (Elisabeth). Jesus the Christ was conceived of the Holy Spirit in the womb of Elizabeth's relative Mary, a virgin, and Jesus was born in Bethlehem, approximately 6 miles from Jerusalem, into the tribe of Judah, the tribe of Judah's kings, to Mary and her husband Joseph when Mary was a virgin. Approximately 30 years after John the Baptist and Jesus the Christ were born, Jesus was baptized in the Jordan River by John the Baptist. Jesus having prayed, the heavens tearing open, the Holy Spirit descended as a dove and lit upon Jesus. The Lord God in heaven audibly acknowledged his Son Jesus, and the Holy Spirit led Jesus into the desert wilderness. Jesus fasted 40 days and nights and was tempted. Afterwards, Jesus was tended to by angels, and Jesus went to the area near John the Baptist, and John the Baptist proclaimed Jesus to be the Lamb of God taking away the sin of the world, and testified that Jesus is the Son of God. In Galilee, Jesus told specific Israelite men to follow him, and Jesus began to preach, teach and perform miracles among the Israelites. There Was a Whole Lot of Killing Going On

After Joshua and his fellow Israelites were

victorious at Jericho, Ai, and Makkedah, and

against enemy kings, the Israelites defeated 

more enemies in Canaan, the Promised Land:

And it came to pass, when Jabin king of Hazor had heard those things, that he sent to Jobab king of Madon, and to the king of Shimron, and to the king of Achshaph, And to the kings that were on the north of the mountains, and of the plains south of Chinneroth, and in the valley, and in the borders of Dor on the west,  And to the Canaanite on the east and on the west, and to the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Jebusite in the mountains, and to the Hivite under Hermon in the land of Mizpeh. And they went out, they and all their hosts with them, much people, even as the sand that is upon the sea shore in multitude, with horses and chariots very many. And when all these kings were met together, they came and pitched together at the waters of Merom, to fight against Israel.-Joshua 11:1-5

And the LORD said unto Joshua, Be not afraid because of them: for to morrow about this time will I deliver them up all slain before Israel: thou shalt hough their horses, and burn their chariots with fire. So Joshua came, and all the people of war with him, against them by the waters of Merom suddenly; and they fell upon them. And the LORD delivered them into the hand of Israel, who smote them, and chased them unto great Zidon, and unto Misrephoth-maim, and unto the valley of Mizpeh eastward; and they smote them, until they left them none remaining. And Joshua did unto them as the LORD bade him: he houghed their horses, and burnt their chariots with fire. And Joshua at that time turned back, and took Hazor, and smote the king thereof with the sword: for Hazor beforetime was the head of all those kingdoms. And they smote all the souls that were therein with the edge of the sword, utterly destroying them: there was not any left to breathe: and he burnt Hazor with fire. And all the cities of those kings, and all the kings of them, did Joshua take, and smote them with the edge of the sword, and he utterly destroyed them, as Moses the servant of the LORD commanded. But as for the cities that stood still in their strength, Israel burned none of them, save Hazor only; that did Joshua burn. And all the spoil of these cities, and the cattle, the children of Israel took for a prey unto themselves; but every man they smote with the edge of the sword, until they had destroyed them, neither left they any to breathe. So Joshua took all that land, the hills, and all the south country, and all the land of Goshen, and the valley, and the plain, and the mountain of Israel, and the valley of the same; Even from the mount Halak, that goeth up to Seir, even unto Baal-gad in the valley of Lebanon under mount Hermon: and all their kings he took, and smote them, and slew them. Joshua made war a long time with all those kings. There was not a city that made peace with the children of Israel, save the Hivites the inhabitants of Gibeon: all other they took in battle. For it was of the LORD to harden their hearts, that they should come against Israel in battle, that he might destroy them utterly, and that they might have no favour, but that he might destroy them, as the LORD commanded Moses.-Joshua 11:16-20

And at that time came Joshua, and cut off the Anakims from the mountains, from Hebron, from Debir, from Anab, and from all the mountains of Judah, and from all the mountains of Israel: Joshua destroyed them utterly with their cities. There was none of the Anakims left in the land of the children of Israel: only in Gaza, in Gath, and in Ashdod, there remained. So Joshua took the whole land, according to all that the LORD said unto Moses; and Joshua gave it for an inheritance unto Israel according to their divisions by their tribes. When thou goest out to battle against thine enemies, and seest horses, and chariots, and a people more than thou, be not afraid of them: for the LORD thy God is with thee, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.-Deuteronomy 20:1...But of the cities of these people, which the LORD thy God doth give thee for an inheritance, thou shalt save alive nothing that breatheth: But thou shalt utterly destroy them; namely, the Hittites, and the Amorites, the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites; as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee:-Deuteronomy 20:16-17

And the men of Israel said unto the Hivites, Peradventure ye dwell among us; and how shall we make a league with you?-Joshua 9:6-7

Land, Cities, Borders, and Coasts

Some of the area in the Promised Land allotted to

Know What

Then went Samson to Gaza, and saw there an harlot, and went in unto her. And it was told the Gazites, saying, Samson is come hither. And they compassed him in, and laid wait for him all night in the gate of the city, and were quiet all the night, saying, In the morning, when it is day, we shall kill him. And Samson lay till midnight, and arose at midnight, and took the doors of the gate of the city, and the two posts, and went away with them, bar and all, and put them upon his shoulders, and carried them up to the top of an hill that is before Hebron.-Judges 16:1-3***Over 800 years after Laban the Syrian (Aramean) was told by family members that Jacob (Israel) moved with his family away from Laban's property, the Philistines in Gaza were told that Samson was in their city. Samson was an Israelite from the tribe of Dan, descended from Jacob and maidservant Bilhah, and Jacob and Bilhah's firstborn son Dan. Samson had previously married a Philistine woman in Timnath, killed 30 Philistine men in Ashkelon, burned Philistine crops, discovered that the Philistines burned his bride and her father, killed more Philistines, and was taken into custody by Israelites from the tribe of Judah, was freed according to the will of the Lord God, and killed a multitude of Philistines with the bone of a dead donkey's jaw. In Gaza, the Philistines made plans to capture Samson. Over 40 years after Samson died while causing a multitude of Philistines to die, some Israelites from Ziph told King Saul that David was hiding in their region. Saul was the 1st king to rule over the Israelites in the Promised Land, and was from the tribe of Benjamin, descended from Jacob and his 2nd wife Rachel, and Jacob and Rachel's 2nd and last son Benjamin. David and the Ziphites were descended from Jacob and his 1st wife Leah, and Jacob and Leah's 4th born son Judah. At least 1,000 years after Saul's self-inflicted death on the battlefield, and the murder of Saul's son and successor Ishbosheth (Eshbaal), and the beginning of David's reign as the 2nd king to rule over all of the Israelites in the Promised Land, Jesus the Christ, the Son of God, was born. Jesus was conceived of the Holy Spirit in the womb of Mary, a virgin, and Jesus was born into the tribe of Judah to Mary and her husband Joseph when Mary was a virgin. Events that occurred after the Philistine army

captured the ark of the covenant of the Lord

from the Israelites, and the Lord God struck

 the Philistines with plagues:

And the ark of the LORD was in the country of the Philistines seven months. And the Philistines called for the priests and the diviners, saying, What shall we do to the ark of the LORD? tell us wherewith we shall send it to his place. And they said, If ye send away the ark of the God of Israel, send it not empty; but in any wise return him a trespass offering: then ye shall be healed, and it shall be known to you why his hand is not removed from you. Then said they, What shall be the trespass offering which we shall return to him? They answered, Five golden emerods, and five golden mice, according to the number of the lords of the Philistines: for one plague was on you all, and on your lords. Wherefore ye shall make images of your emerods, and images of your mice that mar the land; and ye shall give glory unto the God of Israel: peradventure he will lighten his hand from off you, and from off your gods, and from off your land. Wherefore then do ye harden your hearts, as the Egyptians and Pharaoh hardened their hearts? when he had wrought wonderfully among them, did they not let the people go, and they departed? Now therefore make a new cart, and take two milch kine, on which there hath come no yoke, and tie the kine to the cart, and bring their calves home from them: And take the ark of the LORD, and lay it upon the cart; and put the jewels of gold, which ye return him for a trespass offering, in a coffer by the side thereof; and send it away, that it may go. And see, if it goeth up by the way of his own coast to Bethshemesh, then he hath done us this great evil: but if not, then we shall know that it is not his hand that smote us: it was a chance that happened to us.-1 Samuel 6:1-9

And the men did so; and took two milch kine, and tied them to the cart, and shut up their calves at home: And they laid the ark of the LORD upon the cart, and the coffer with the mice of gold and the images of their emerods. And the kine took the straight way to the way of Beth-shemesh, and went along the highway, lowing as they went, and turned not aside to the right hand or to the left; and the lords of the Philistines went after them unto the border of Beth-shemesh.-1 Samuel 6:10-12

And they of Beth-shemesh were reaping their wheat harvest in the valley: and they lifted up their eyes, and saw the ark, and rejoiced to see it. And the cart came into the field of Joshua, a Beth-shemite, and stood there, where there was a great stone: and they clave the wood of the cart, and offered the kine a burnt offering unto the LORD. And the Levites took down the ark of the LORD, and the coffer that was with it, wherein the jewels of gold were, and put them on the great stone: and the men of Beth-shemesh offered burnt offerings and sacrificed sacrifices the same day unto the LORD.-1 Samuel 6:13-15

And when the five lords of the Philistines had seen it, they returned to Ekron the same day. And these are the golden emerods which the Philistines returned for a trespass offering unto the LORD; for Ashdod one, for Gaza one, for Askelon one, for Gath one, for Ekron one; And the golden mice, according to the number of all the cities of the Philistines belonging to the five lords, both of fenced cities, and of country villages, even unto the great stone of Abel, whereon they set down the ark of the LORD: which stone remained unto this day in the field of Joshua, the Beth-shemite.-1 Samuel 6:16-18

And he smote the men of Beth-shemesh, because they had looked into the ark of the LORD, even he smote of the people fifty thousand and threescore and ten men: and the people lamented, because the LORD had smitten many of the people with a great slaughter. And the men of Beth-shemesh said, Who is able to stand before this holy LORD God? and to whom shall he go up from us? And they sent messengers to the inhabitants of Kirjath-jearim, saying, The Philistines have brought again the ark of the LORD; come ye down, and fetch it up to you.-1 Samuel 6:19-21

And the men of Kirjath-jearim came, and fetched up the ark of the LORD, and brought it into the house of Abinadab in the hill, and sanctified Eleazar his son to keep the ark of the LORD. And it came to pass, while the ark abode in Kirjath-jearim, that the time was long; for it was twenty years: and all the house of Israel lamented after the LORD.-1 Samuel 7:1-2

And the hand of Midian prevailed against Israel: and because of the Midianites the children of Israel made them the dens which are in the mountains, and caves, and strong holds. And so it was, when Israel had sown, that the Midianites came up, and the Amalekites, and the children of the east, even they came up against them; and they encamped against them, and destroyed the increase of the earth, till thou come unto Gaza, and left no sustenance for Israel, neither sheep, nor ox, nor ass. For they came up with their cattle and their tents, and they came as grasshoppers for multitude; for both they and their camels were without number: and they entered into the land to destroy it. And Israel was greatly impoverished because of the Midianites; and the children of Israel cried unto the LORD. And it came to pass, when the children of Israel cried unto the LORD because of the Midianites, that the LORD sent a prophet unto the children of Israel, which said unto them, Thus said the LORD God of Israel, I brought you up from Egypt, and brought you forth out of the house of bondage; and delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of all that oppressed you, and drave them out from before you, and gave you their land; and I said unto you, I am the LORD your God; fear not the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but ye have not obeyed my voice.-Judges 6:1-10**Joseph was the 1st son born to Jacob (Israel) and his 2nd wife Rachel. When Joseph was 17 years old, his brothers sold him to merchants traveling to Egypt and led Jacob to believe that Joseph was killed by a wild beast. The merchants sold Joseph to Potiphar, an Egyptian official. After Potiphar's wife made a false accusation, Potiphar put Joseph in prison. At least 2 years after Joseph explained the meaning of a dream to the imprisoned cupbearer who served Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, and explained the meaning of a dream to Pharaoh's imprisoned baker, 30-year-old Joseph explained the meaning of a dream to Pharaoh, and Pharaoh proclaimed Joseph second-in-command. After the 2nd time that Joseph's brothers were in Egypt to buy corn (grain) during a famine, Joseph identified himself to them and told his brothers to move with their families, including Jacob, to Egypt. Pharaoh heard about the reunion and expressed his generosity and hospitality. In Beersheba, the Lord God spoke to 130-year-old Jacob. In Egypt, Jacob proclaimed Manasseh and Ephraim, the sons born to Joseph and his wife Asenath, to be his own sons, and the tribe of Joseph became the tribe of Manasseh and the tribe of Ephraim. Sometime after 147-year-old Jacob died in Egypt, and Jacob's family buried his body in Canaan, and 110-year-old Joseph and his siblings were dead, the Israelites were enslaved in Egypt.  Miriam and her younger brother Aaron were born into the tribe of Levi to Amram and Jochebed, Israelites descended from Jacob and his 1st wife Leah, and Jacob and Leah's 3rd born son Levi. The divinely inspired Scriptures of the Holy Bible reveal that sometime before another son was born to Amram and Jochebed, Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, told the Hebrew (Israelite) midwives to kill all Hebrew baby boys at birth. However, the midwives reverentially feared the Lord God and allowed the Hebrew newborn boys to live. Thus, Pharaoh commanded the Egyptians to toss Hebrew baby boys into the river. After Amram and Jochebed kept their newborn baby boy hidden for 3 months, Jochebed placed their baby boy in a specially prepared ark and set the ark by the vegetation near the river. Miriam watched the ark and saw Pharaoh's daughter send a maidservant to retrieve the ark, and Miriam asked Pharaoh's daughter if she wanted a Hebrew wet nurse for the child. Pharaoh's daughter responded, and Miriam helped arrange for Jochebed to be hired as the wet nurse for the baby. Sometime after the child was weaned, Jochebed took him to live with Pharaoh's daughter, and Pharaoh's daughter named the child Moses. When Moses was 40 years old, he killed an Egyptian and hid the body. After the murder was mentioned to Moses, and Pharaoh wanted to kill him, Moses ran to Midian and was married to Zipporah, a Midianite woman descended from Abraham and his 2nd wife Keturah  and their son Midian. When Moses was 80 years old and herding sheep amid the region of Mount Horeb, the mountain of God, he saw a fiery sight, and the Lord God spoke to Moses. Moses answered the Lord God, and the Lord God and Moses spoke to each other, and the Lord God sent Moses and 83-year-old Aaron to speak to the Israelite elders and Pharaoh. After the Lord God brought the 10th and final plague upon Pharaoh and Egypt, Pharaoh told Moses and Aaron to get the Israelites and their animals and go worship the Lord God. Moreover, Pharaoh told Moses and Aaron to bless him. Before Moses and Aaron led the Israelites, and those with him, away from Egypt, across the divinely parted Red Sea, and into the desert wilderness of Shur, the Israelites requested and were given an abundance of valuable goods, fulfilling the words that the Lord God spoke to Jacob's grandfather Abraham (Abram the Hebrew) over 600 years earlier. In the desert wilderness of Sinai, in the region of Mount Sinai, the Israelites heard the voice of the Lord God proclaim the Ten Commandments to them, and the Lord God began giving Moses judgments, statutes and laws for the Israelites, and the Lord God made a covenant with the Israelites. When Moses was upon Mount Sinai 40 days and nights with the Lord God, the Lord God told Moses that only Aaron and Aaron's sons and the sons born to their descendants were to serve the Lord God as priests. Meanwhile, the Israelites were telling Aaron to make gods to lead them, and Aaron made a golden calf. When Moses returned to the Israelites, according to the command of the Lord God, and saw the golden calf and the Israelites, he burned and ground the golden calf, and questioned Aaron and put forth a challenge. The Levites, the Israelites in the tribe of Levi, obeyed Moses and killed approximately 3,000 Israelites. Moses returned to Mount Sinai, and the Lord God descended in the cloud and made proclamations  about himself. When Moses returned to the Israelites, they saw that Moses' facial skin was radiant, and Moses proclaimed the words of the Lord God to them, and put a veil upon his face. During the 40-year journey to Canaan, the Promised Land, the Israelites repeatedly turned away from the Lord God. In Kadesh, in the desert wilderness of Zin, Miriam the prophetess died and was buried. Upon Mount Hor, 123-year-old Aaron the high priest died. When Moses went upon Mount Nebo, the Lord God showed Moses the Promised Land, and 120-year-old Moses the prophet died, and was divinely buried. Joshua, Moses' aide and successor from the tribe of Ephraim, led the Israelites across the divinely parted Jordan River and onto the land that the Lord God promised to give to Abraham, and to Abraham's son Isaac, and to Isaac's son Jacob, and their descendants. After 110-year-old Joshua died, and was buried in his tribe's portion of the Promised Land, and the elders associated with Joshua were dead, the Israelites disobeyed the commands of the Lord God, and the Lord God raised up judges to lead them. When  Samuel, the priest, prophet and judge from the tribe of Levi was elderly, and his sons Joel (Vashni) and Abiah (Abijah) were not obeying the commands of the Lord God, and King Nahash and his Ammonite army were preparing to attack, the Israelite elders demanded that Samuel anoint a king to lead them, and Samuel anointed Saul, from the tribe of Jacob and Rachel's 2nd and last son Benjamin, to reign, according to the command of the Lord God. At least 1,000 years after Samuel anointed David, from the tribe of Jacob and Leah's 4th born son Judah to reign as king, and David began to rule over all of the Israelites, Jesus the Christ, the Son of God, was born.
