...................................................................LET US LEARN TOGETHER WHAT IS GOOD. Job 34:4b(NIV)................................................................Some people see the Bible as a long and boring book filled with incidents and events from the lives of ancient people who probably never existed. The biblical stories are seen as fables. In this blog, many of the situations and conversations found in the divinely inspired Holy Scriptures have been placed in categories that correspond to expressive sayings and phrases. Reference information, background information and links connecting the people and places are given to help you find a place to begin reading the Bible for yourself.

Bright Idea

And the word of Samuel came to all Israel. Now Israel went out against the Philistines to battle, and pitched beside Ebenezer: and the Philistines pitched in Aphek. And the Philistines put themselves in array against Israel: and when they joined battle, Israel was smitten before the Philistines: and they slew of the army in the field about four thousand men. And when the people were come into the camp, the elders of Israel said, Wherefore hath the LORD smitten us to day before the Philistines? Let us fetch the ark of the covenant of the LORD out of Shiloh unto us, that, when it cometh among us, it may save us out of the hand of our enemies. So the people sent to Shiloh, that they might bring from thence the ark of the covenant of the LORD of hosts, which dwelleth between the cherubims: and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were there with the ark of the covenant of God. And when the ark of the covenant of the LORD came into the camp, all Israel shouted with a great shout, so that the earth rang again. And when the Philistines heard the noise of the shout, they said, What meaneth the noise of this great shout in the camp of the Hebrews? And they understood that the ark of the LORD was come into the camp. And the Philistines were afraid, for they said, God is come into the camp. And they said, Woe unto us! for there hath not been such a thing heretofore. Woe unto us! who shall deliver us out of the hand of these mighty Gods? these are the Gods that smote the Egyptians with all the plagues in the wilderness. Be strong, and quit yourselves like men, O ye Philistines, that ye be not servants unto the Hebrews, as they have been to you: quit yourselves like men, and fight. And the Philistines fought, and Israel was smitten, and they fled every man into his tent: and there was a very great slaughter; for there fell of Israel thirty thousand footmen. And the ark of God was taken; and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were slain.-1 Samuel 4:1-11***The Philistines descended from Mizraim, and Mizraim was the son of Ham, and Ham was the son of Noah the ark builder. The Israelites (Hebrews) descended from Shem, and Shem was the son of Noah. The Philistines worshiped idols, and some of Shem's descendants, including Terah, the father of Abraham (Abram the Hebrew) and Sarah (Sarai), worshiped idols. Abraham and Sarah, their son Isaac,  Isaac's youngest fraternal twin son Jacob (Israel), and their descendants the Israelites worshiped the Lord God, the Creator of the heavens and the earth. Over 300 years after the Lord God promised to give the land of Canaan to Abraham, and  Isaac, and to Jacob, and their descendants, the Israelites were enslaved in Egypt. Moses and his brother Aaron were Israelites from the tribe of Levi, descended from Jacob and his 1st wife Leah, and Jacob and Leah's 3rd born son Levi. When Moses was 80 years old and Aaron was 83, the Lord God sent Moses and Aaron to speak to the Israelite elders and to Pharaoh, the king of Egypt. After the Lord God brought the 10th and final plague upon Pharaoh and Egypt, Pharaoh told Moses and Aaron to get themselves, the Israelites and their animals away from Egypt and go serve the Lord God. Moses and Aaron led the Israelites away from Egypt, and across the divinely parted Red Sea, and into the desert wilderness, according to the commands of the Lord God. Months thereafter, Moses, Aaron, the Israelites, and those with them, were in the desert wilderness of Sinai, in the region of Mount Sinai. The Israelites heard the voice of the Lord God proclaim the Ten Commandments to them, and the Lord God began giving Moses judgments for the Israelites. When Moses was upon Mount Sinai with the Lord God for 40 days and nights, the Lord God described and showed to Moses the pattern for making the transportable tabernacle and the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and other sacred items. The Lord God gave Moses the commands for the new priesthood. Aaron and Aaron's sons and the sons born to the descendants of their sons were to be the only Israelites to serve the Lord God as priests. The Levites from the Kohath clan were the only Israelites allowed to carry the ark of the covenant of the Lord by its gold covered poles. During the 40th year of their journey to the Promised Land, Aaron died and was buried upon Mount Hor, and Moses went upon Mount Nebo. The Lord God showed Moses the Promised Land, and Moses died and was divinely buried. Joshua, Moses' successor, was from the tribe of Ephraim, descended from Jacob and his 2nd wife Rachel, their firstborn son Joseph and his wife Asenath, and Joseph and Asenath's 2nd born son Ephraim, whom Jacob proclaimed to be his own son.  Immediately before Joshua led the Israelites across the Jordan River, the priests stood still in the middle of the divinely parted Jordan River, carrying the ark of the covenant, until all of the Israelites had walked across and were standing upon the Promised Land. The tabernacle, and the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and the other sacred items were placed in Shiloh years before 110-year-old Joshua died and was buried in his tribe's portion of the Promised Land. Moreover, the tabernacle, and the ark of the covenant and the other sacred items were in Shiloh over 275 years later when Samuel, the priest, prophet and judge, was born into the tribe of Levi to Elkanah and Hannah. Over 1,000 years after Samuel anointed Saul to reign as king over the Israelites in the Promised Land,  Jesus the Christ, the Son of God, was born. Jesus was conceived of the Holy Spirit in the womb of Mary, a virgin, and Jesus was born into the tribe of Jacob and Leah's 4th born son Judah to Mary and her husband Joseph when Mary was a virgin.-Genesis, Exodus, Numbers 3:1-4:49, 20:1-29, 27:12-23, Deuteronomy 31:1-30, 32:44-52, 34:1-12, Joshua 1:1-4:24, 18:1-24:33, Judges 1:1-2:23, 1 Samuel, 2 Samuel, 1 Kings, 2 Kings, 1 Chronicles 1:1-34, 2:1-17, 3:1-24, 6:1-81, 7:20-29, 10:1-29:30, 2 Chronicles, Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Acts 1:1-26
