And the LORD spake unto Joshua, saying, Command the priests that bear the ark of the testimony, that they come up out of Jordan. Joshua therefore commanded the priests, saying, Come ye up out of Jordan. And it came to pass, when the priests that bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD were come up out of the midst of Jordan, and the soles of the priests' feet were lifted up unto the dry land, that the waters of Jordan returned unto their place, and flowed over all his banks, as they did before. And the people came up out of Jordan on the tenth day of the first month, and encamped in Gilgal, in the east border of Jericho. And those twelve stones, which they took out of Jordan, did Joshua pitch in Gilgal. And he spake unto the children of Israel, saying: When your children shall ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What mean these stones? Then ye shall let your children know, saying, Israel came over this Jordan on dry land. For the LORD your God dried up the waters of Jordan from before you, until ye were passed over, as the LORD your God did to the Red sea, which he dried up from before us, until we were gone over: That all the people of the earth might know the hand of the LORD, that it is mighty: that ye might fear the LORD your God for ever.-Joshua 4:15-24***After Moses and his older brother Aaron led their fellow Israelites away from Egyptian slavery, Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, chased the Israelites with his horses, chariots, officers, and troops. The Egyptians caught up to the Israelites when the Israelites were near the Red Sea, and the Israelites cried and complained to Moses. The Lord God commanded Moses to lift his staff and stretch his hand over the sea. Throughout the night the Lord God brought an easterly wind that caused the water to divide, making a wall on the right and left, and leaving dry ground in the middle. The Israelites marched safely through, and the Lord God told Moses to stretch his hand over the sea once more. As the sun rose, the water began to flow again and the pursing Egyptians drowned. During the 40th year of their journey to Canaan, the Promised Land, Aaron died and was buried upon Mount Hor, and Moses went upon Mount Nebo. The Lord God showed Moses the Promised Land, and Moses died and was divinely buried. Before Joshua, Moses' successor, led the Israelites across the divinely parted Jordan River and onto the land that the Lord God promised to give to Abraham (Abram the Hebrew), and to Abraham's son Isaac, and to Isaac's youngest fraternal twin son Jacob (Israel), and to their descendants, Joshua gave the priests who were carrying the ark of the covenant of the Lord specific instructions, according to the commands of the Lord God. The moment the feet of the priests were in the Jordan River, the Lord God caused the water to stop flowing and stand in a heap miles away at the town of Adam near Zarethan, with the remaining water going into the Salt Sea, leaving an area of dry ground. After everyone had crossed, Joshua made sure that a man from each of the 12 Israelite tribes took a stone from the middle of the dry riverbed wherein the priests stood, and Joshua fashioned the stones into a lasting memorial, according to the commands of the Lord God. The priests carrying the ark were reunited with the Israelites in Gilgal, on the other side of the Jordan River, near Jericho, and the water began to flow again. Over 1,300 years after Joshua died and was buried in his tribe's portion of the Promised Land, Jesus the Christ, the Son of God, was born. Jesus was conceived of the Holy Spirit in the womb of Mary, a virgin, and Jesus was born into the tribe of Jacob's 4th born son Judah to Mary and her husband Joseph when Mary was a virgin.
