...................................................................LET US LEARN TOGETHER WHAT IS GOOD. Job 34:4b(NIV)................................................................Some people see the Bible as a long and boring book filled with incidents and events from the lives of ancient people who probably never existed. The biblical stories are seen as fables. Notably, Romans 15:4 reveals: For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.(KJV) In this blog, many of the situations and conversations found in the divinely inspired Scriptures of the Holy Bible have been placed in categories that correspond to expressive sayings and phrases. Reference information, background information and links connecting the people and places are given to help you find a place to begin reading the Bible for yourself.

This Loot Was Made for Partin'

King David, Joab and the Ammonites

And Joab fought against Rabbah of the children of Ammon, and took the royal city. And Joab sent messengers to David, and said, I have fought against Rabbah, and have taken the city of waters. Now therefore gather the rest of the people together, and encamp against the city, and take it: lest I take the city, and it be called after my name. And David gathered all the people together, and went to Rabbah, and fought against it, and took it. And he took their king's crown from off his head, the weight whereof was a talent of gold with the precious stones: and it was set on David's head. And he brought forth the spoil of the city in great abundance. And he brought forth the people that were therein, and put them under saws, and under harrows of iron, and under axes of iron, and made them pass through the brick-kiln: and thus did he unto all the cities of the children of Ammon. So David and all the people returned unto Jerusalem

 Background Information:

Jesse was an Israelite from the tribe of Judah, descended from Abraham (Abram the Hebrew) and Sarah (Sarai), Isaac and Rebekah, Jacob (Israel) and his 1st wife Leah, and Jacob and Leah's 4th born son Judah. David was Jesse's 8th born son. Over a decade after David was born, Samuel the priest, prophet and judge from the tribe of Levi anointed David to reign as king, according to the command of the Lord God. When David was 30 years old, he began to rule only over the tribe of Judah in the Promised Land. When David was 37 1/2 years old, he became the 2nd king to rule over all of the Israelites. At least 1,000 years before David reigned, and his nephew Joab became commander of the army, Abraham, Sarah and their nephew Lot journeyed from Haran to Canaan. The divinely inspired Scriptures of the Holy Bible reveal that Abraham and Lot were constantly growing wealthier, and Abraham suggested that they live apart from one another. Abraham told Lot to select the region of his choice, and Lot chose to live in the area near Sodom. Abraham and Sarah settled in HebronSometime after Lot moved away, Lot and others were taken captive. Abraham and his 318 men recovered everyone and everything. At least 15 years after Abraham rescued Lot, the Lord God told Abraham about his plans to destroy Sodom, and Abraham spoke to the Lord God. Shortly thereafter, 2 angels brought Lot, and Lot's wife and their 2 daughters away from Sodom. However, Lot's wife disobeyed a command, looked back, and became a pillar of salt. When Lot and his 2 daughters were staying in a cave, Moab and Ben-ammi were born. Moab, the forefather of the Moabites, was born to Lot and his oldest daughter. Ben-ammi, the forefather of the Ammonites, was born to Lot and his youngest daughter. The Moabites and Ammonites were usually enemies of the Israelites. David's great-grandmother Ruth was a Moabite. When David lived on the run, evading King Saul, the 1st king and reigning ruler over the Israelites in the Promised Land, he took his parents to live in the care of a Moabite king. During David's reign over all of the Israelites, when Joab and his troops were battling the Ammonites, David remained in Jerusalem, the royal city. David and  Bathsheba,  the wife of Uriah, a Hittite, were physically intimate, and  Bathsheba became pregnant. David arranged to have Uriah brought home from Rabbah and set back to Rabbah to die in battle. The 1st child born to David and Bathsheba died a week after being afflicted by the Lord God. David and Bathsheba's 2nd child, Solomon, became the 3rd king to rule over all of the Israelites. At least 925 years after Rehoboam, the son born to Solomon and Naamah, became the 4th king to rule over all of the Israelites, Jesus the Christ, the Son of God, was born. Jesus was conceived of the Holy Spirit in the womb of Mary, a virgin, and Jesus was born into the tribe of Judah to Mary and her husband Joseph when Mary was a virgin. Notably, the incident involving David, Bathsheba, Uriah, and Solomon is mentioned in a biblical genealogy of Jesus the Christ.-Genesis 11:26-50:26, Exodus, Numbers 20:1-29, 27:12-23, Deuteronomy 31:1-30,32:44-52, 34:1-12, Joshua 1:1-4:24, 13:1-33, 23:1-24:33, Judges 1:1-2:23, Ruth, 1 Samuel 1:1-3:21, 8:1-31:13, 2 Samuel, 1 Kings, 2 Kings, 1 Chronicles 1:1-34, 2:1-17, 3:1-24, 10:1-29:30, 2 Chronicles, Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Acts 1:1-26

And it came to pass, that after the year was expired, at the time that kings go out to battle, Joab led forth the power of the army, and wasted the country of the children of Ammon, and came and besieged Rabbah. But David tarried at Jerusalem. And Joab smote Rabbah, and destroyed it. And David took the crown of their king from off his head, and found it to weigh a talent of gold, and there were precious stones in it; and it was set upon David's head: and he brought also exceeding much spoil out of the city. And he brought out the people that were in it, and cut them with saws, and with harrows of iron, and with axes. Even so dealt David with all the cities of the children of Ammon. And David and all the people returned to Jerusalem.-1 Chronicles 20:1-3
