Now Sarai Abram's wife bare him no children: and she had an handmaid, an Egyptian, whose name was Hagar. And Sarah said unto Abram, Behold now, the LORD hath restrained me from bearing: I pray thee, go in unto my maid; it may be that I may obtain children by her. And Abraham hearkened to the voice of Sarai. And Sarai Abram's wife took Hagar her maid the Egyptian, after Abram had dwelt ten years in the land of Canaan, and gave her to her husband Abram to be his wife. And he went in unto Hagar, and she conceived: and when she saw that she had conceived, her mistress was despised in her eyes. And Sarai said unto Abram, My wrong be upon thee: I have given my maid into thy bosom; and when she saw that she had conceived, I was despised in her eyes: the LORD judge between me and thee. But Abram said unto Sarai, Behold, thy maid is in thy hand; do to her as it pleaseth thee. And when Sarai dealt hardly with her, she fled from her face. And the angel of the LORD found her by a fountain of water in the wilderness, by the fountain in the way to Shur. And he said, Hagar, Sarai's maid, whence camest thou? and whither wilt thou go? And she said, I flee from the face of my mistress Sarai. And the angel of the LORD said unto her, Return to thy mistress, and submit thyself under her hands. And the angel of the LORD said unto her, I will multiply thy seed exceedingly, that it shall not be numbered for multitude. And the angel of the LORD said unto her, Behold, thou art with child, and shalt bear a son, and shalt call his name Ishmael; because the LORD hath heard thy affliction. And he will be a wild man; his hand will be against every man, and every man's hand against him; and he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren. And she called the name of the LORD that spake unto her, Thou God seest me: for she said, Have I also here looked after him that seeth me?-Genesis 16:1-13***Hagar was the Egyptian maidservant of Sarah (Sarai). After Sarah and her husband Abraham (Abram the Hebrew) arrived in Canaan with their nephew Lot, and servants, animals, and possessions, the Lord God told Abraham that he would give Canaan to Abraham's descendants and Abraham. During a famine, Abraham, Sarah and Lot went to Egypt and returned to Canaan. Abraham and Lot owned an abundance of goods, and Abraham suggested that they separate. The Lord God spoke to Abraham and proclaimed that Abraham would have an immeasurable number of descendants. Sometime thereafter, Lot and others were captured, and Abraham and his men retrieved everyone and everything. Throughout decades of marriage, Abraham and Sarah remained childless. However, the Lord God assured Abraham that Abraham would have a son to inherit his wealth and Abraham would have descendants too numerous to count. After another decade of marriage without a son being born, Sarah made a suggestion to Abraham and Abraham's 1st child, Ishmael, was born to 86-year-old Abraham and Hagar. Fourteen years thereafter, Isaac was born to 100-year-old Abraham and 90-year-old Sarah. When Isaac was 37 years old, Sarah died. When Isaac was 40 years old, he was married to Rebekah, Abraham and Sarah's grandniece. Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah were born to Abraham and his 2nd wife Keturah. Fraternal twin sons Esau (Edom) and Jacob (Israel) were born to 60-year-old Isaac and Rebekah. Decades after Esau and Jacob were born, Jacob was married to Leah and Rachel, the daughters of Rebekah's brother Laban the Syrian (Aramean). Judah was the 4th son born to Jacob and Leah. Approximately 1,900 years after Benjamin was born near Bethlehem to Jacob and Rachel, and Rachel died, Jesus the Christ, the Son of God, was born. Jesus was conceived of the Holy Spirit in the womb of Mary, a virgin, and Jesus was born in Bethlehem into the tribe of Judah to Mary and her husband Joseph when Mary was a virgin.-Genesis 11:26-35:29, 1 Chronicles 1:1-3:24, Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Acts 1:1-26
