From a letter written by the apostle Paul

 to believers in Rome:

Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin. Cometh this blessedness then upon the circumcision only, or upon the uncircumcision also? for we say that faith was reckoned to Abraham for righteousness. How was it then reckoned? when he was in circumcision, or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision. And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had yet being uncircumcised: that he might be the father of all them that believe, though they be not circumcised: that righteousness might be imputed unto them also: And the father of circumcision to them who are not of the circumcision only, but who also walk in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham, which he had being yet uncircumcised. For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith. For if they which are of the law be heirs, faith is made void, and the promise made of none effect: Because the law worketh wrath: for where no law is, there is no transgression. Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed, not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all, (As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were. Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be. And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sarah's womb: He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform. And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness.-Romans 4:8-22***Abraham (Abram the Hebrew) was an uncircumcised man in a childless marriage to Sarah (Sarai) when the Lord God promised to give the land of Canaan to him and his descendants. Abraham was 86 years old and uncircumcised when Ishmael was born to Abraham and Hagar, Sarah's maidservant. When Abraham was 99 years old and still in a childless marriage to Sarah, the Lord God gave Abraham the covenant of circumcision and proclaimed that he had made Abraham a father of many nations. Abraham, Ishmael and every male within Abraham's household, including the servants, were circumcised immediately. When Abraham was 100 years old and Sarah was 90, their only child Isaac was born. When Isaac was 8 days old, Abraham circumcised Isaac. When Isaac was 60 years old, his wife Rebekah gave birth to their only children, fraternal twin sons Esau (Edom) and Jacob (Israel). Decades thereafter, Judah was born to Jacob and his 1st wife Leah. Judah and all of his brothers were circumcised on the 8th day after they were born. Over 1,900 years after Judah and his brothers were born and circumcised, Jesus the Christ, the Son of God, was born. Jesus was conceived of the Holy Spirit in the womb of Mary, a virgin, and Jesus was born into the tribe of Judah to Mary and her husband Joseph when Mary was a virgin. On the 8th day after Jesus was born, Jesus was circumcised. Approximately 30 years after Jesus was born and circumcised, Jesus was baptized in the Jordan River by Mary's relative John the Baptist. Less than 3 1/2 years after Jesus was baptized, Jesus was betrayed, arrested, crucified, buried in a tomb, resurrected, and returned to heaven. Paul (Saul) was an Israelite from the tribe of Benjamin, descended from Jacob and his 2nd wife Rachel, and Jacob and Rachel's 2nd and last son Benjamin. When Paul was journeying to the synagogues in Damascus in Syria to find, bind and take to Jerusalem any Israelite believers he found, Paul and those with him saw a light from heaven flash around them. Paul heard the voice of Jesus speaking to him. Paul spoke to Jesus, and obeyed Jesus and in Damascus Paul was baptized.
