...................................................................LET US LEARN TOGETHER WHAT IS GOOD. Job 34:4b(NIV)................................................................Some people see the Bible as a long and boring book filled with incidents and events from the lives of ancient people who probably never existed. The biblical stories are seen as fables. Notably, Romans 15:4 reveals: For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.(KJV) In this blog, many of the situations and conversations found in the divinely inspired Scriptures of the Holy Bible have been placed in categories that correspond to expressive sayings and phrases. Reference information, background information and links connecting the people and places are given to help you find a place to begin reading the Bible for yourself.

Get to Gettin'

In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, in the first day of the month, came the word of the LORD by Haggai the prophet unto Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, saying, Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, This people say, The time is not come, the time that the LORD's house should be built. Then came the word of the LORD by Haggai the prophet, saying, Is it time for you, O ye, to dwell in your cieled houses, and this house lie waste?-Haggai 1:1-4

Now therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts; Consider your ways. Ye have sown much, and bring in little; ye eat, but ye have not enough; ye drink, but ye are not filled with drink; ye clothe you, but there is none warm; and he that earneth wages earneth wages to put it into a bag with holes.-Haggai 1:5-6

Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Consider your ways. Go up to the mountain, and bring wood, and build the house; and I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified, saith the LORD. Ye looked for much, and, lo it came to little; and when ye brought it home, I did blow upon it. Why? saith the LORD of hosts. Because of mine house that is waste, and ye run every man unto his own house. Therefore the heaven over you is stayed from dew, and the earth is stayed from her fruit. And I called for a drought upon the land, and upon the mountains, and upon the corn, and upon the new wine, and upon the oil, and upon that which the ground bringeth forth, and upon men, and upon cattle, and upon all the labour of the hands.-Haggai 1:7-11

Then Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, with all the remnant of the people, obeyed the voice of the LORD their God, and the words of Haggai the prophet, as the LORD their God had sent him, and the people did fear before the LORD. Then spake Haggai the LORD's messenger in the LORD's message unto the people, saying, I am with you, saith the LORD.-Haggai 1:12-13

And the LORD stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people; and they came and did work in the house of the LORD of hosts, their God, in the four and twentieth day of the sixth month, in the second year of Darius the king.-Haggai 1:14-15

When King Nebuchadnezzar was ruling Babylon, and King Jehoiakim (Eliakim) was in Jerusalem ruling Judah, the southern nation in the Promised Land, Nebuchadnezzar invaded Judah and Jerusalem and began looting the temple of the Lord. After Jehoiachin (Jeconiah/Coniah), the son born to Jehoiakim and Nehushta, became the 18th king to rule Judah, Nebuchadnezzar took more prominent Israelites, including Jehoiachin, his wives and mother, to Babylon. Jehoiachin was the great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-grandson of King Solomon. Solomon was the 3rd king to reign over all of the Israelites in the Promised Land. Rehoboam, the son born to Solomon and Naamah, was the 4th king to reign over all of the Israelites. After Rehoboam gave a specific answer, the Israelites split into 2 kingdoms, according to the will of the Lord God, due to the idolatry and other wickedness of Solomon. Judah was the nation in the south, Jerusalem was the royal city, and Rehoboam was the 1st king to reign. Israel was the northern nation, Samaria was the final royal city, and Jeroboam,  the son born to Nebat and Zeruah, was the 1st king to reign. During the 20-year reign of King Pekah, the 18th king to rule over all of the Israleites in the northern nation of Israel, the Assyrians invaded the kingdom and King Tiglath-pileser, ruler of Assyria, began taking Israelites to Assyria. During the 9th year of the reign of King Hoshea, the 19th king to rule the northern nation, the Assyrians conquered Samaria, according to the will of the Lord God, due to the idolatry and other wickedness of the Israelites. Jehoiakim's brother King Zedekiah (Mattaniah) was the 19th king to rule Judah. During the 11th year of Zedekiah's reign, the Babylonians conquered Jerusalem, according to the will of the Lord God, due to the idolatry and other wickedness of the Israelites. The Babylonians looted and burned the temple of the Lord and took more Israelites to Babylon. Less than 70 years after Jerusalem was conquered, King Cyrus, ruler of the Persian Empire, defeated the Babylonians and allowed the Israelites to return to Judah and Jerusalem and build a temple. The Israelites built an altar in Jerusalem and sacrificed burnt offerings to the Lord God. The year after the altar was built, the Israelites began working to lay the foundation of the temple in Jerusalem. When the foundation was completely built, the Israelites offered praises and thanksgiving to the Lord God. Enemies of the Israelites succeeded with plans that kept the Israelites from building the temple, although the Israelites successfully built homes for themselves. Two prophets of the Lord God, Haggai and Zechariah, proclaimed divine messages to the Israelites. After Haggai proclaimed the words of the Lord God to Zerubbael and Jeshua (Joshua), the Israelites started working on the temple again. After a group of enemies sent a letter to King Darius, ruler of the Persian Empire, a search was conducted, Cyrus' decree was found, and Darius granted permission for the Israelites to resume building the temple. Over 500 years after the temple was built under the leadership of Zerubbabel and those with him, Jesus the Christ, the Son of God, was born. Jesus was conceived of the Holy Spirit in the womb of Mary, a virgin, and Jesus was born into the tribe of Judah, the tribe of Solomon and his descendants, all of Judah's kings, to Mary and her husband Joseph when Mary was a virgin. Before Jesus was born to Joseph and Mary, and after Jesus was betrayed, arrested, crucified, buried in a tomb, resurrected,  seen by over 500 people, and returned to heaven less than 33 1/2 years after he was born, the Roman Empire was ruling the land whereupon the kingdoms of the Israelites previously stood.-Genesis 11:26-50:26, Exodus, Numbers 20:1-29, 27:12-23, Deuteronomy 31:1-30, 32:44-52, 34:1-12, Joshua 1:1-4:24 23:1-24:33, Judges 1:1-2:23, 1 Samuel 1:1-3:21, 8:1-31:13, 2 Samuel, 1 Kings, 2 Kings, 1 Chronicles 1:1-34, 2:1-17, 3:1-24, 10:1-29:30, 2 Chronicles, Ezra, Nehemiah, Haggai, Zechariah, Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Acts 1:1-26
