Now when the adversaries of Judah and Benjamin heard that the children of the captivity builded the temple unto the LORD God of Israel; Then they came to Zerubbabel, and to the chief of the fathers, and said unto them, Let us build with you: for we seek your God, as ye do; and we do sacrifice unto him since the days of Esar-haddon king of Assur, which brought us up hither. But Zerubbabel, and Jeshua, and the rest of the chief of the fathers of Israel, said unto them, Ye have nothing to do with us to build an house unto our God; but we ourselves together will build unto the LORD God of Israel, as king Cyrus the king of Persia hath commanded us. Then the people of the land weakened the hands of the people of Judah, and troubled them in building, And hired counsellors against them, to frustrate their purpose, all the days of Cyrus king of Persia, even until the reign of Darius king of Persia.-Ezra 4:1-5***David was an Israelite from the tribe of Judah. Over a decade after David was born, Samuel the priest, prophet and judge from the tribe of Levi anointed David to reign as king, according to the command of the Lord God. When David was 30 years old, he began to reign only over the tribe of Judah. When David was 37 years old, he became the 2nd king to reign over all of the Israelites in the Promised Land. Shortly after David and his fellow Israelites brought the ark of the covenant of the Lord from the house of Obed-edom, and the ark was placed in a specific tent in the City of David, David wanted to build a house for the Name of the Lord wherein to house the ark. Throughout his reign, David gathered materials, including gold, silver, iron, and gems. Solomon, the 2nd child born to David and Bathsheba, became the 3rd king to reign over all of the Israelites. In Jerusalem, Solomon built the temple of the Lord, according to the details that David received from the hand of the Lord upon him.  Rehoboam, the son born to Solomon and Naamah, was the 4th king to reign over all of the Israelites. After Rehoboam gave a specific answer, the Israelites split into 2 kingdoms, according to the will of the Lord God, due to the idolatry and other wickedness of Solomon. Judah was the nation in the south, Jerusalem was the royal city and Rehoboam was the 1st king to reign. Israel was the northern nation, Samaria was the final royal city and Jeroboam was the 1st king to reign. Israelites throughout both kingdoms disobeyed the commands of the Lord God and refused to listen to the warnings that the Lord God gave his prophets to proclaim. King Pekah was the 18th king to rule over all of the Israelites in the northern nation of Israel. During Pekah's reign, the Assyrians invaded the kingdom and King Tiglath-pileser, ruler of Assyria, began taking Israelites to Assyria. During the reign of King Hoshea, the 19th king to rule the northern nation, the Assyrians conquered Samaria, according to the will of the Lord God, due to the idolatry and other wickedness of the Israelites. Another group of Israelites were sent to live in Assyria, and the king of Assyria sent people from other lands previously conquered to live in Samaria and its regions. Rehoboam's great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-grandson Jehoiakim (Eliakim) was the 17th king to rule Judah. During Jehoiakim's reign, the Babylonians (Chaldeans) invaded Judah and Jerusalem and King Nebuchadnezzar, ruler of Babylon, began looting the temple. During the reign of Jehoiakim's son King Jehoiachin (Jeconiah/Coniah), the 18th king to rule Judah, the Babylonians took more prominent Israelites to Babylon. During the reign of Jehoiakim's brother King Zedekiah (Mattaniah), the 19th king to rule Judah, the Babylonians conquered Jerusalem, according to the will of the Lord God, due to the idolatry and other wickedness of the Israelites. The Babylonians burned the temple and other buildings, took additional Israelites captive, and seized all the valuable goods. After King Cyrus, ruler of the Persian Empire, conquered Babylon, he allowed the Israelites to return to Jerusalem and build a temple, according to the will of the Lord God. Over 500 years after the 2nd temple was built, Jesus the Christ, the Son of God, was born.
