The Holy Anointing Oil
Moreover the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, Take thou also unto thee principal spices, of pure myrrh five hundred shekels, and of sweet cinnamon half so much; even two hundred and fifty shekels, and of sweet calamus two hundred and fifty shekels, And of cassia five hundred shekels, after the shekel of the sanctuary, and of oil olive an hin: And thou shalt make it an oil of holy ointment, an ointment compound after the art of the apothecary: it shall be an holy anointing oil. And thou shalt anoint the tabernacle of the congregation therewith, and the ark of the testimony, And the table and all his vessels, and the candlestick and his vessels, and the altar of incense, And the altar of burnt offering with all his vessels, and the laver and his foot. And thou shalt sanctify them, that they may be most holy: whatsoever toucheth them shall be holy. And thou shalt anoint Aaron and his sons, and consecrate them, that they may minister unto me in the priest's office. And thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel, saying, This shall be an holy anointing oil unto me throughout your generations. Upon man's flesh shall it not be poured, neither shall ye make any other like it, after the composition of it: it is holy, and it shall be holy unto you. Whosoever compoundeth any like it, or whosoever putteth any of it upon a stranger, shall even be cut off from his people.-Exodus 30:22-33***When the Israelites were in the desert wilderness of Sinai, months after Moses and his older brother Aaron led them away from Egyptian slavery, across the divinely parted Red Sea, and into the desert wilderness of Shur, they heard the voice of the Lord God proclaim the Ten Commandments to them. The Lord God began giving Moses judgments for the Israelites, and told Moses to come up and worship on Mount Sinai, and identified over 70 others for Moses to bring with him. Shortly thereafter, the Lord God summoned Moses up farther to stay and be given stone tablets. Upon Mount Sinai, the Lord God gave Moses commands for receiving offerings from the Israelites, and for making the ark of the covenant of the Lord and the mercy seat, and the table for the showbread, the lampstand and its oil, the transportable tabernacle and courtyard, the altar of burnt offering, the altar of incense, the garments and items for the priests, the basin, the holy anointing oil, and the holy incense. The anointing oil was to be poured only upon the head of Aaron and Aaron's sons and the sons born to their descendants, the only Israelites who were to serve the Lord God as priests. At the end of 40 days and nights, the Lord God gave Moses 2 stone tablets whereupon were written, with the finger of God, the Ten Commandments. During the 40th year of their journey to Canaan, the Promised Land, 123-year-old Aaron died and was buried upon Mount Hor, and Moses went upon Mount Nebo. The Lord God showed Moses the Promised Land, and 120-year-old Moses died and was divinely buried. Joshua, Moses' successor, was from the tribe of Ephraim, descended from Abraham (Abram the Hebrew) and Sarah (Sarai), Isaac and Rebekah, Jacob (Israel) and his 2nd wife Rachel, their firstborn son Joseph and his wife Asenath, and Joseph and Asenath's 2nd born son Ephraim, whom Jacob proclaimed to be his own son. Joshua led the Israelites across the divinely parted Jordan River and onto the land that the Lord God promised to give to Abraham, and Isaac, and to Jacob, and their descendants. Over 1,300 years after 110-year-old Joshua died and was buried in his tribe's portion of the Promised Land, Jesus the Christ, the Son of God, was born. Jesus was conceived of the Holy Spirit in the womb of Mary, a virgin, and Jesus was born into the tribe of Jacob Judah to Mary and her husband Joseph when Mary was a virgin. Judah was the 4th son born to Jacob and his 1st wife Leah.
