The Old and the Bold

And Barzillai the Gileadite came down from Rogelim, and went over Jordan with the king, to conduct him over Jordan. Now Barzillai was a very aged man, even fourscore years old: and he had provided the king of sustenance while he lay at Mahanaim; for he was a very great man. And the king said unto Barzillai, Come thou over with me, and I will feed thee with me in Jerusalem. And Barzillai said unto the king, How long have I to live, that I should go up with the king unto Jerusalem? I am this day fourscore years old: and can I discern between good and evil? can thy servant taste what I eat or what I drink? can I hear any more the voice of singing men and singing women? wherefore then should thy servant be yet a burden unto my lord the king? Thy servant will go a little way over Jordan with the king: and why should the king recompense it me with such a reward? Let thy servant, I pray thee, turn back again, that I may die in mine own city, and be buried by the grave of my father and of my mother. But behold thy servant Chimham; let him go over with my lord the king; and do to him what shall seem good unto thee. And the king answered, Chimham shall go over with me, and I will do to him that which shall seem good unto thee: and whatsoever thou shalt require of me, that will I do for thee. And all the people went over Jordan. And when the king was come over, the king kissed Barzillai, and blessed him; and he returned unto his own place.-2 Samuel 19:31-39***David was an Israelite from the tribe of Judah, descended from Abraham (Abram the Hebrew) and Sarah (Sarai), Isaac and Rebekah, Jacob (Israel) and Leah, and Jacob and Leah's 4th born son Judah. Samuel, the priest, prophet and judge, was from the tribe of Jacob and Leah's 3rd born son Levi. Years after Samuel anointed David to reign as king, David became the 2nd king to reign over all of the Israelites in the Promised Land. During David's reign, Absalom, the son born to David and Maacah, successfully worked to have himself proclaimed king. David and most of those loyal to David hurriedly left Jerusalem, the royal city. Ziba, the steward of a royal household, was the 1st to bring David and his loyalists food, wine and donkeys. Shortly thereafter, David and those with him crossed the Jordan River and stayed in Mahanaim. Meanwhile, Absalom and those with him crossed the Jordan River and camped in Gilead. In Mahanaim, 3 men, including 80-year-old Barzillai, gave food and other supplies to David. After Absalom was killed, the revolt ended, and David's words to the Israelite elders in the tribe of Judah  caused the men of Judah to go to the Jordan River and escort David back across the river. Moreover, other Israelites, including Barzillai, were at the Jordan River. Over 900 years after Solomon, the 2nd son born to David and Bathsheba, became the 3rd king to reign over all of the Israelites, Jesus the Christ, the Son of God, was born. Jesus was conceived of the Holy Spirit in the womb of Mary, a virgin, and Jesus was born into the tribe of Judah to Mary and her husband Joseph when Mary was a virgin.-Genesis 11:26-50:26, Exodus, Numbers 20:1-29, 27:12-23, 32:1-42, 34:1-35:34, Deuteronomy 31:1-30, 32:44-52, 34:1-12, Joshua 1:1-4:24, 13:24-33, 21:1-45, 23:1-24:33, Judges 1:1-2:23, 1 Samuel 1:1-3:21, 8:1-31:13, 2 Samuel, 1 Kings 1:1-11:43, 1 Chronicles 1:1-34, 2:1-17, 3:1-24, 6:1-81, 10:1-29:30, 2 Chronicles 1:1-9:31, Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Acts 1:1-26
