...................................................................LET US LEARN TOGETHER WHAT IS GOOD. Job 34:4b(NIV)................................................................Some people see the Bible as a long and boring book filled with incidents and events from the lives of ancient people who probably never existed. The biblical stories are seen as fables. In this blog, many of the situations and conversations found in the divinely inspired Holy Scriptures have been placed in categories that correspond to expressive sayings and phrases. Reference information, background information and links connecting the people and places are given to help you find a place to begin reading the Bible for yourself.

Oh

And Manoah said unto the angel of the LORD, What is thy name, that when thy sayings come to pass we may do thee honour? And the angel of the LORD said unto him, Why askest thou thus after my name, seeing it is secret? So Manoah took a kid with a meat offering, and offered it upon a rock unto the LORD: and the angel did wondrously; and Manoah and his wife looked on. For it came to pass, when the flame went up toward heaven from off the altar, that the angel of the LORD ascended in the flame of the altar. And Manoah and his wife looked on it, and fell on their faces to the ground. But the angel of the LORD did no more appear to Manoah and to his wife. Then Manoah knew that he was an angel of the LORD. And Manoah said unto his wife, We shall surely die, because we have seen God. But his wife said unto him, If the LORD were pleased to kill us, he would not have received a burnt offering and a meat offering at our hands, neither would he have shewed us all these things, nor would as at this time have told us such things as these.-Judges 13:17-23***Before Samson was born into the tribe of Dan in the Promised Land, an angel of the Lord appeared to Samson's childless mother and told her that she would conceive and give birth to a son. When the woman told her husband Manoah about the visit, Manoah prayed to the Lord God and requested that the man of God who had delivered the message be sent back and teach them how they should raise the child. After the angel returned and gave instructions to Manoah and his wife, Manoah offered to feed the messenger. However, the messenger spoke to Manoah about a burnt offering to the Lord God. Over 1,000 years after the angel spoke to Manoah and his wife, the angel Gabriel spoke to elderly Zechariah (Zacharias) the priest and told Zechariah that Zechariah's elderly wife Elizabeth  (Elisabeth) would give birth to a son, and Zechariah was to name the son John. Months after John the Baptist was physically conceived in Elizabeth's womb, Jesus the Christ, the Son of God, was conceived of the Holy Spirit in the womb of Elizabeth's relative Mary, a virgin. Before Jesus was conceived of the Holy Spirit in Mary's womb, the angel Gabriel spoke to Mary. After Jesus was conceived of the Holy Spirit in Mary's womb, an angel of the Lord spoke to Joseph, the craftsman whom Mary was pledged to wed. Months after John the Baptist was born into the tribe of Levi to Zechariah and Elizabeth, Jesus the Christ was born into the tribe of Judah to Mary and her husband Joseph when Mary was a virgin.-Genesis 11:26-50:26, Exodus, Numbers 20:1-29, 27:12-23, Deuteronomy 31:1-30, 32:44-52, 34:1-12, Joshua 1:1-4:24, 23:1-24:33, Judges 1:1-16:31, 1 Chronicles 1:1-34, 2:1-17, 3:1-24, 6:1-81, Matthew Mark, Luke, John, Acts 1:1-26

               *************************

And the five men that went to spy out the land went up, and came in thither, and took the graven image, and the ephod, and the teraphim, and the molten image: and the priest stood in the entering of the gate with the six hundred men that were appointed with weapons of war. And these went into Micah's house, and fetched the carved image, the ephod, and the teraphim, and the molten image. Then said the priest unto them, What do ye? And they said unto him, Hold thy peace, lay thine hand upon thy mouth, and go with us, and be to us a father and a priest: is it better for thee to be a priest unto the house of one man, or that thou be a priest unto a tribe and a family in Israel? And the priest's heart was glad, and he took the ephod, and the teraphim, and the graven image, and went in the midst of the people. So they turned and departed, and put the little ones and the cattle and the carriage before them. And when they were a good way from the house of Micah, the men that were in the houses near to Micah's house were gathered together, and overtook the children of Dan. And they cried unto the children of Dan. And they turned their faces, and said unto Micah, What aileth thee, that thou comest with such a company? And he said, Ye have taken away my gods which I made, and the priest, and ye are gone away: and what have I more? and what is this that ye say unto me, What aileth thee? And the children of Dan said unto him, Let not thy voice be heard among us, lest angry fellows run upon thee, and thou lose thy life, with the lives of thy household. And the children of Dan went their way: and when Micah saw that they were too strong for him, he turned and went back unto his house.-Judges 17:18-26***The Israelites in the tribe of Dan descended from Noah the ark builder, Noah's son Shem, Shem's son Arphaxad, Arphaxad's great-great-great-great-great-grandson Terah, Terah's children Abraham (Abram the Hebrew) and Sarah (Sarai), their son Isaac and his wife Rebekah, Isaac and Rebekah's youngest fraternal twin son Jacob (Israel) and maidservant Bilhah, and Jacob and Bilhah's firstborn son Dan. The Amorites descended from Noah's son Ham, and Ham's son Canaan. Canaan, the land inhabited by the Amorites and other idolaters, became known as the Promised Land sometime after the Lord God promised to give the land to Abraham, and Isaac, and to Jacob, and their descendants. Some of the region of the Promised Land that was allotted to the tribe of Dan was occupied by the Amorites, people too strong for the Danites to conquer. The Danites sent 5 men from their tribe to find a place wherein the tribe could settle. During their exploration, the 5 Danites discovered a Levite, an Israelite from the tribe of Levi, living in the house of Micah and serving as Micah's priest. Levi was the 3rd son born to Jacob and his 1st wife Leah. The Danites also saw Laish, a city they believed their fellow Danites could easily capture. Thus, with an armed force of 600 men, the Danites set out to dispossess the Laish inhabitants. However, before conquering Laish, the Danites stopped at Micah's house and stole his religious artifacts and Jonathan his priest. Jonathan was descended from Moses, the Israelite and prophet from the tribe of Levi. Over 70 years earlier, Moses and his older brother Aaron had led the Israelites away from Egyptian slavery, across the divinely parted Red Sea, and into the desert wilderness of Shur, according to the commands of the Lord God. The divinely inspired Scriptures of the Holy Bible reveal that the Lord God spoke to Moses face to face and the Lord God knew Moses face to face.-Genesis 11:26-50:26, Exodus, Numbers 20:1-29, 27:12-23, Deuteronomy 31:1-30, 32:44-52, 34:1-12, Joshua 1:1-4:24, 19:40-48, 23:1-24:33, Judges, 1 Chronicles 1:1-34, 2:1-17, 3:1-24, 6:1-81, Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Acts 1:1-26
