Moses speaks to his fellow Israelites:
If there be among you a poor man of one of thy brethren within any of thy gates in thy land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt nor harden thine heart, nor shut thine hand from thy poor brother: But thou shalt open thine hand wide unto him, and shalt surely lend him sufficient for his need, in that which he wanteth. Beware that there be not a thought in thy wicked heart, saying, The seventh year, the year of release, is at hand; and thine eye be evil against thy poor brother, and thou givest him nought; and he cry unto the LORD against thee, and it be sin unto thee. Thou shalt surely give him, and thine heart shall not be grieved when thou givest unto him: because that for this thing the LORD thy God shall bless thee in all thy works, and in all that thou puttest thine hand unto. For the poor shall never cease out of the land: therefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt open thine hand wide unto thy brother, to thy poor, and to thy needy, in thy land. And if thy brother, an Hebrew man, or an Hebrew woman, be sold unto thee, and serve thee six years; then in the seventh year thou shalt let him go free from thee. And when thou sendest him out free from thee, thou shalt not let him go away empty: Thou shalt furnish him liberally out of thy flock, and out of thy floor, and out of thy winepress: of that wherewith the LORD thy God hath blessed thee thou shalt give unto him.-Deuteronomy 15:7-14***When Jacob (Israel) was 130 years old, he moved with his family from Canaan to Egypt, the country wherein Joseph, the 1st son born to Jacob and his 2nd wife Rachel, was second-in-command. After 147-year-old Jacob died in Egypt, his body was buried in Canaan. Sometime after Joseph and his siblings were dead, their descendants the Israelites were enslaved in Egypt. Miriam and her younger brothers Aaron and Moses were Israelites from the tribe of Levi, descended from Jacob and his 1st wife Leah, and Jacob and Leah's 3rd born son Levi. When Moses was 80 years old and Aaron was 83, they led the Israelites away from Egypt, across the divinely parted Red Sea, and into the desert wilderness of Shur, according to the commands of the Lord God. Months thereafter, in the desert wilderness of Sinai, in the region of Mount Sinai, the Israelites heard the voice of the Lord proclaim the Ten Commandments to them, and the Lord God began giving Moses judgments, statutes and laws for the Israelites, the treasured and chosen people of the Lord God. The Lord God gave Moses laws regarding the treatment of slaves and the poor, although the Israelites were to be prosperous in Canaan, the Promised Land. The Lord God commanded that every 7 years debts were to be canceled between Israelites, and any Israelite who sold himself as a slave was to be treated as a hired servant and released after 6 years. Upon release, the servant was to be amply supplied. The divinely inspired Scriptures of the Holy Bible reveal that before the Israelites left Egypt, the Egyptians gave the Israelites a vast amount of valuable good, fulfilling the words that the Lord God spoke to Abraham over 600 years earlier. During the 40-year journey to the Promised Land, Miriam died and was buried in Kadesh in the desert wilderness of Zin. Upon Mount Hor, 123-year-old Aaron died and was buried. Upon Mount Nebo, the Lord God showed Moses the Promised Land, and Moses died and was divinely buried. Joshua, Moses' successor, led the Israelites across the divinely parted Jordan River and onto the land that the Lord God promised to give to Jacob, and to Jacob's father Isaac, and to Isaac's father Abraham (Abram the Hebrew), and to their descendants. Over 1,300 years after Joshua died and was buried in his tribe's portion of the Promised Land, Jesus the Christ, the Son of God, was born.
