And when Moses saw that the people were naked; (for Aaron had made them naked unto their shame among their enemies:) Then Moses stood in the gate of the camp, and said, Who is on the LORD's side? let him come unto me. And all the sons of Levi gathered themselves together unto him. And he said unto them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Put every man his sword by his side, and go in and out from gate to gate throughout the camp; and slay every man his brother, and every man his companion, and every man his neighbour. And the children of Levi did according to the word of Moses: and there fell of the people that day about three thousand men. For Moses had said, Consecrate yourselves to day to the LORD, even every man upon his son, and upon his brother; that he may bestow upon you a blessing this day.-Exodus 32:25-29***At least 3 months after Moses and his older brother Aaron led their fellow Israelites away from Egyptian slavery, across the divinely parted Red Sea, and into the desert wilderness of Shur, Moses and Aaron led the Israelites, and those with them, into the desert wilderness of Sinai, in the region of Mount Sinai, according to the commands of the Lord God. The Israelites heard the voice of the Lord God proclaim the Ten Commandments to them, and the Lord God began giving Moses judgments for the Israelites. Moses, Aaron, and 72 other Israelites went upon Mount Sinai, according to the command of the Lord God. Afterwards, Moses and Joshua were upon Mount Sinai, and Moses was in the presence of the Lord God for 40 days and nights. The Lord God described to Moses and showed Moses the likeness of the tabernacle and sacred items that the Israelites were to make. The Lord told Moses that only Aaron, and Aaron's sons and the sons born to their descendants were to serve the Lord God as priests. Before the Lord God sent Moses back to the Israelites, the Lord God gave Moses 2 stone tablets whereupon were written, with the finger of God, the Ten Commandments. Meanwhile, when Joshua thought that the Israelites were in the midst of a battle, Moses knew that the Israelites were involved in an idolatrous celebration. Although Aaron tried to downplay the depravity and his willing participation, Moses set about to rectify the situation and found that the Levites, Israelites from the tribe of Levi, the birth tribe of Aaron, Moses and their older sister Miriam, were on the side of the Lord God. Sometime thereafter, while the Israelites were still in the region of Mount Sinai, the Lord God gave Moses the commands for the three Levite clans, including the responsibility of dismantling, carrying, camping around, and setting up everything related to the transportable tabernacle, the Tent of Meeting wherein the Lord God would meet with the Israelites. During the 40-year journey to Canaan, the Promised Land, Miriam died and was buried in Kadesh, in the desert wilderness of Zin. Upon Mount Hor, 123-year-old Aaron died and was buried. When Moses went upon Mount Nebo, the Lord God showed Moses the Promised Land, and 120-year-old Moses died and was divinely buried. Moses' successor Joshua led the Israelites across the divinely parted Jordan River and onto the land that the Lord God promised to give to Abraham (Abram the Hebrew), and to Abraham's son Isaac, and to Isaac's youngest fraternal twin son Jacob (Israel), and to their descendants. Over 1,300 years after 110-year-old Joshua died and was buried in his tribe's portion of the Promised Land, Jesus the Christ, the Son of God, was born. Before 110-year-old Joshua died, Joshua spoke to the Israelites gathered before him in Shechem. Joshua testified of the goodness of the Lord God and the history of Abraham, and reminded the Israelites of their forefathers' beginnings. After the Israelites uniformly agreed to follow the Lord God, Joshua made a covenant and recorded laws and decrees in the Book of the Law of God. During the era after Joshua's death, the Israelites were led by elders, judges and their own minds. Samuel, the priest and prophet, was the last judge who worshiped the Lord God and led the Israelites.
