King Saul

Now Samuel was dead, and all Israel had lamented him, and buried him in Ramah, even in his own city. And Saul had put away those that had familiar spirits, and the wizards, out of the land. And the Philistines gathered themselves together, and came and pitched in Shunem: and Saul gathered all Israel together, and they pitched in Gilboa. And when Saul saw the host of the Philistines, he was afraid, and his heart greatly trembled. And when Saul enquired of the LORD, the LORD answered him not, neither by dreams, nor by Urim, nor by prophets. Then Saul unto his servants, Seek me a woman that hath a familiar spirit, that I may go to her, and enquire of her. And his servants said to him, Behold, there is a woman that hath a familiar spirit at Endor. And Saul disguised himself, and put on other raiment, and he went, and two men with him, and they came to the woman by night: and he said, I pray thee, divine unto me by the familiar spirit, and bring me him up, whom I shall name unto thee. And the woman said unto him, Behold, thou knowest what Saul hath done, how he hath cut off those that have familiar spirits, and the wizards out of the land: wherefore then layest thou a snare for my life, to cause me to die? And Saul sware to her by the LORD, saying, As the LORD liveth, there shall no punishment happen to thee for this thing. Then said the woman, Whom shall I bring up unto thee? And he said, Bring me up Samuel. And when the woman saw Samuel, she cried with a loud voice: and the woman spake to Saul, saying, Why hast thou deceived me? for thou art Saul. And the king said unto her, Be not afraid: for what sawest thou? And the woman said unto Saul, I saw gods ascending out of the earth. And he said unto her, What form is he of? And she said, An old man cometh up; and he is covered with a mantle. And Saul perceived that it was Samuel, and he stooped with his face to the ground, and bowed himself. And Samuel said to Saul, Why hast thou disquieted me, to bring me up? And Saul answered, I am sore distressed; for the Philistines make war against me, and God is departed from me, and answereth me no more, neither  by prophets, nor by dreams: therefore I have called thee, that thou mayest make known unto me what I shall do. Then said Samuel, Wherefore then dost thou ask of me, seeing the LORD is departed from thee, and is become thine enemy? And the LORD hath done to him, as he spake by me: for the LORD hath rent the kingdom out of thine hand, and given it to thy neighbour, even to David: Because thou obeyedst not the voice of the LORD, nor executedst his fierce wrath upon Amalek, therefore hath the LORD done this thing unto thee this day. Moreover the LORD will also deliver Israel with thee into the hand of the Philistines: and to morrow shalt thou and thy sons be with me: the LORD also shall deliver the host of Israel into the hand of the Philistines. Then Saul fell straightway all along on the earth, and was sore afraid, because of the words of Samuel: and there was no strength in him; for he had eaten no bread all the day, nor all the night.-2 Samuel 28:3-20***Isaac was born to 100-year-old Abraham (Abram the Hebrew) and 90-year-old Sarah (Sarai). When Isaac was 40 years old, he was married to Rebekah, Abraham and Sarah's grandniece. Fraternal twin sons Esau (Edom) and Jacob (Israel) were born to 60-year-old Isaac and Rebekah. Esau was Isaac's favorite, and Jacob was Rebekah's favorite. When Isaac was elderly, and his eyesight was weak, and his death was in his thoughts, he told Esau to hunt a specific animal and prepare a particular meal, and he would bless him. Rebekah heard Isaac's instructions, and led Jacob to deceive Isaac and cheat Esau. After Rebekah learned that Esau planned to kill Jacob, she spoke words to Isaac that led him to send Jacob from their home in Canaan to the home of Rebekah's family in Padan Aram, Haran. During the journey, when Jacob was in Bethel (Luz) asleep and dreaming, he saw the angels of God ascending and descending upon a ladder that went from earth to heaven, and Jacob saw another divine sight and the Lord God spoke to Jacob. During Jacob's 7th year in Haran, he was married to Leah and Rachel, the daughter of Rebekah's brother Laban the Syrian (Aramean). Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Zebulun, and daughter Dinah were born to Jacob and Leah. Dan and Naphtali were born to Jacob and Bilhah, Rachel's maidservant. Gad and Asher were born to Jacob and Zilpah, Leah's maidservant. Joseph was the 1st son born to Jacob and Rachel. During Jacob's 20th year in Haran, he began journeying home to Canaan with his family, servants, animals, and possessions. Near Bethlehem, Benjamin was born to Jacob and Rachel, and Rachel died. When Joseph was 17 years old, his brothers sold him to merchants traveling to Egypt and led Jacob to believe that Joseph was killed by a wild beast. The merchants sold Joseph to Potiphar, an Egyptian official. After Potiphar's wife made a false accusation, Potiphar put Joseph in prison. At least 2 years after Joseph explained the meaning of a dream to the imprisoned cupbearer who served Pharaoh,  the king of Egypt, and explained the meaning of a dream to Pharaoh's imprisoned baker, 30-year-old Joseph explained the meaning of a dream to Pharaoh, and Pharaoh proclaimed Joseph second-in-command.  After the 2nd time that Joseph's brothers were in Egypt to buy corn during a famine, Joseph identified himself to them and told his brothers to move with their families, including Jacob, to Egypt. Pharaoh heard about the reunion and expressed his hospitality and generosity. In Beersheba, the Lord God spoke to 130-year-old Jacob. In Egypt, Jacob proclaimed Manasseh and Ephraim, the sons born to Joseph and his wife Asenath, to be his own sons, and the tribe of Joseph became the tribe of Manasseh and the tribe of Ephraim. Sometime after 147-year-old Jacob died in Egypt, and Jacob's family buried his body in Canaan, and 110-year-old Joseph and his siblings were dead, their descendants the Israelites were enslaved in Egypt. Miriam and her younger brothers Aaron and Moses were born into the tribe of Levi. When Moses was 80 years old and Aaron was 83, the Lord God sent them to speak to the Israelite elders and Pharaoh. After the Lord God brought the 10th and final plague upon Pharaoh and Egypt, Pharaoh told Moses and Aaron to get the Israelites and their animals and go worship the Lord God. Moreover, Pharaoh told Moses and Aaron to bless him. Before Moses and Aaron led the Israelites, and those with them, away from Egypt, across the divinely parted Red Sea, and into the desert wilderness of Shur, the Israelites requested and were given an abundance of valuable goods, fulfilling the words that the Lord God spoke to Abraham when he made a covenant with Abraham. In the desert wilderness of Sinai, in the region of Mount Sinai, the Israelites heard the voice of the Lord God proclaim the Ten Commandments to them, and the Lord God began giving Moses judgments, statutes and laws for the Israelites, and the Lord God made a covenant with the Israelites. The laws revealed that the Israelties were not to permit a sorceress to live. When Moses was upon Mount Sinai 40 days and nights with the Lord God, the Lord God described to Moses and showed Moses the likeness of the sacred items that the Israelites were to make, including the breastplate and the ephod for the priests, and the Lord God gave Moses commands about the placement of the Urim and the Thummim, and the Lord God told Moses that only Aaron, and Aaron's sons and the sons born to their descendants were to serve the Lord God as priests. While the Israelites were in the Sinai region, the Lord God told Moses that the Israelites were not to seek after mediums (spiritists) and wizards (familiar spirits), and the Lord God said he would set his face against anyone who sought after mediums and wizards, and would cut those seeking mediums and wizards off from the Israelites, and mediums and wizards were to be pelted with stones until they died. During the 40-year journey to Canaan, the Promised Land, Miriam the prophetess died and was buried in Kadesh, in the desert wilderness of Sinai. Upon Mount Hor, 123-year-old Aaron the high priest died. Near the Promised Land, Moses publicly recounted some of the history of the Israelites and their relationship to the Lord God, and Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and the commandments, judgments and laws, and Moses said that conjurers and anyone who practiced sorcery, consulted a medium, consulted a wizard, consulted the dead, must not exist among the Israelites. Upon Mount Nebo, the Lord God showed Moses the Promised Land, and 120-year-old Moses the prophet died, and was divinely buried. Joshua, Moses' aide and successor from the tribe of Ephraim, led the Israelites across the divinely parted Jordan River and onto the land that the Lord God promised to give to Abraham, and Isaac, and to Jacob, and their descendants. After 110-year-old Joshua died, and was buried in his tribe's portion of the Promised Land, the Israelites were led by elders, judges and their own minds. When Samuel the priest, prophet and judge from the tribe of Levi was elderly, and his sons Joel (Vashni) and Abiah (Abijah) were not obeying the commands of the Lord God, and King Nahash and his Ammonite army were preparing to attack, the Israelite elders demanded that Samuel appoint a king to lead them, and Samuel anointed Saul, from the tribe of Benjamin, to reign, according to the command of the Lord God. In Gilgal, Saul did not obey the command of the Lord God, and Samuel told Saul that Saul's kingdom was not going to continue, and a man after God's own heart was going to be commander of the Israelites. When Saul did not obey the command to completely destroy the Amalekites and their possessions, the Lord God spoke to Samuel, and Samuel was grieved and spent the night crying out to the Lord God. Saul lied when he saw Samuel, and offered excuses. After Samuel revealed the message of the Lord God to Saul, and Saul spoke and made a plea, Samuel told Saul that the Lord God rejected Saul from being king, and has torn the kingdom from Saul, and given the kingdom to a neighbor better than Saul. Samuel killed King Agag, ruler of the Amalekites, and cut Agag's body in pieces, and mourned for Saul, and stopped going to see Saul. The Lord God spoke to Samuel and sent him to Bethlehem, and Samuel anointed David, from the tribe of Judah, to reign as king, according to the command of the Lord God. The Spirit of the Lord came upon David, and the Spirit of the Lord departed from Saul. When Saul heard about David's skills, strength, appearance, and favor with the Lord God, Saul demanded that David's father Jesse send David to him, and David began serving as a musician and an armor-bearer for Saul. Amid the Valley of Elah, David killed and beheaded Goliath the gigantic Philistine from Gath. David and Jonathan, Saul's son, made a covenant. The Israelite women sang of David higher than they sang of Saul, and Saul was angry. Saul wanted to kill David, and became afraid of David, and sent David on missions to get killed, and commanded others, including Jonathan to kill David. Saul's daughter Michal was married to David and helped David escape from their home. David went to Samuel, in Ramah, Samuel's hometown, and Saul was informed and went to Ramah. The Spirit of God came upon Saul, and Saul prophesied while in Samuel's presence. David left Ramah and went to Jonathan, and when Jonathan gave an excuse for David's absence, Saul cast a spear at Jonathan. In Nob, David went to Ahimelech the priest. In Gath, David went to King Achish, a Philistine king. In the cave in Adullman, approximately 400 distressed, discontented, and indebted men joined David, and David and his men stayed in the forest, and Keilah, and in the wilderness, and in the wilderness of Maon. At least twice, David refused to kill Saul, and Saul spoke kindly to David. When David returned to Gath, David asked to be given a separate town, and Achish gave Ziklag to David. After the Philistines killed Jonathan and his brothers Malchishua and Abinadab (Ishui?), and Saul's self-inflicted death on the same battlefield, men from the tribe of Judah anointed 30-year-old David, and David began to reign only over the tribe of Judah. Saul's son Ishbosheth (Eshbaal) ruled over the other Israelite tribes. After Ishbosheth was murdered, the Israelite elders went to David, and David made a covenant with them. The elders anointed 37-year-old David, and David began to rule over all of the Israelites. At least 950 years after Solomon, a son born to David and Bathsheba, became the 3rd king to rule over all of the Israelites, and 70-year-old David died, Jesus the Christ, the Son of God, was born.
