Bright Idea

Now the children of Reuben, and the children of Gad had a very great multitude of cattle: and when they saw the land of Jazer, and the land of Gilead, that, behold, the place was a place for cattle; The children of Gad and the children of Reuben came and spake unto Moses, and to Eleazar the priest, and unto the princes of the congregation, saying, Ataroth, and Dibon, and Jazer, and Nimrah, and Heshbon, and Elealeh, and Shebam, and Nebo, and Beon, Even the country which the LORD smote before the congregation of Israel, is a land for cattle, and thy servants have cattle: Wherefore, said they, if we have found grace in thy sight, let this land be given unto thy servants for a possession, and bring us not over Jordan.-Numbers 32:1-5***Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Zebulun, and Dinah were born to Jacob (Israel) and his 1st wife Leah. Dan and Naphtali were born to Jacob and maidservant Bilhah. Gad and Asher were born to Jacob and maidservant Zilpah. Joseph and Benjamin were born to Jacob and his 2nd wife Rachel. The 12 sons are the forefathers of the 12 tribes of Israel. However, the tribe of Joseph became known as the tribe of Manasseh and the tribe of Ephraim after Jacob proclaimed Manassesh and Ephraim, the sons born to Joseph and his wife Asenath, to be his own sons. The divinely inspired Scriptures of the Holy Bible reveal that the Lord God told Jacob's grandfather Abraham (Abram the Hebrew) that he would make Abraham into a great nation and give the land of Canaan to Abraham's descendants and to Abraham. Isaac was the only child born to Abraham and his wife Sarah (Sarai). The Lord God appeared to Isaac and promised to give Canaan to Isaac and Isaac's descendants. Jacob was the youngest fraternal twin son born to Isaac and his wife Rebekah. The Lord God appeared to Jacob in a dream and promised to give Canaan to Jacob and Jacob's descendants. During a famine, 130-year-old Jacob moved with his family from Canaan to Egypt, the country wherein Joseph was sold to Potiphar, an Egyptian official, and imprisoned, and proclaimed second-in-command. Sometime after 147-year-old Jacob died in Egypt and his body was buried in Canaan, and Joseph and his siblings were dead, the Israelites were enslaved in Egypt. Miriam and her younger brothers Aaron and Moses were born into the tribe of Levi. When Moses was 80 years old, the Lord God spoke to Moses and sent Moses and 83-year-old Aaron to speak to the Israelite elders and to Pharaoh, the king of Egypt. After the Lord God brought the 10th and final plague upon Pharaoh and Egypt, Moses and Aaron led the Israelites, and those with them, away from Egypt, across the divinely parted Red Sea and into the desert wilderness of ShurDuring the 40-year journey to Canaan, the Promised Land, Miriam died and was buried in Kadesh in the desert wilderness of Zin. Upon Mount Hor, 123-year-old Aaron died and was buried. The Israelites from the tribes of Reuben and Gad asked for permission to make their permanent homes on land that the Lord God had allowed the Israelites to capture from enemy Amorites, including gigantic King Og of Bashan. Shortly thereafter, 120-year-old Moses went upon Mount Nebo, and the Lord God showed Moses the Promised Land, and Moses died and was divinely buried. Joshua, Moses' successor, was from the tribe of Ephraim. Joshua led the Israelites across the divinely parted Jordan River and onto the Promised Land. Over 1,300 years after Joshua died and was buried in his tribe's portion of the Promised Land, Jesus the Christ, the Son of God, was born.
