A Certain Man

Philip, the deacon and evangelist,

and the inhabitants of a city in Samaria,

and Simon the sorcerer:

Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and preached Christ unto them. And the people with one accord gave heed unto those things which Philip spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did. For unclean spirits, crying with loud voice, came out of many that were possessed with them: and many taken with palsies, and that were lame, were healed. And there was great joy in that city. But there was a certain man, called Simon, which beforetime in the same city used sorcery, and bewitched the people of Samaria, giving out that himself was some great one: To whom they all gave heed, from the least to the greatest, saying, This man is the great power of God. And to him they had regard, because that of long time he had bewitched them with sorceries. But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women. Then Simon himself believed also: and when he was baptized, he continued with Philip, and wondered, beholding the miracles and signs which were done. Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John: Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost: (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.) Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost. And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles' hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money, Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost. But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money. Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God. Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee. For I perceive that thou art in the gall of bitterness, and in the bond of iniquity. Then answered Simon, and said, Pray ye to the Lord for me, that none of these things which ye have spoken come upon me. And they, when they had testified and preached the word of the Lord, returned to Jerusalem, and preached the gospel in many villages of the Samaritans.-Acts 8:5-25***John the Baptist baptized Jesus the Christ, the Son of God, in the Jordan River approximately 30 years after Jesus was conceived of the Holy Spirit in the womb of Mary, a virgin, and born into the tribe of Judah to Mary and her husband Joseph when Mary was a virgin. At the Jordan River, Jesus having prayed, the heavens tearing open, the Holy Spirit descended as a dove and lit upon Jesus. The Lord God in heaven audibly acknowledged his Son Jesus, and the Holy Spirit led Jesus into the desert wilderness. Jesus fasted for 40 days and nights and was tempted. Afterwards, Jesus was tended to by angels, and Jesus went to the area near John the Baptist, and John the Baptist proclaimed Jesus to be the Lamb of God taking away the sin of the world. In Galilee, Jesus told specific Israelite men, including Philip and Simon Peter from Bethsaida, and Zebedee's son John, to follow him, and Jesus began to preach, teach and perform miracles among the Israelites, the treasured and chosen people of the Lord God. Jesus chose 12 of his disciples and named them apostles and sent them on a mission only to the Israelites. Less than 3 1/2 years after Jesus was baptized, Jesus was betrayed by Judas Iscariot, the disciple and apostle. Jesus was arrested. Judas Iscariot killed himself. Jesus was crucified, buried in a tomb, resurrected, seen by over 500 people, and returned to heaven. Simon Peter became a leader among the Israelite believers. Shortly thereafter, Mathias became an apostle, according to the will of the Lord God. Meanwhile, the number of disciples increased. When help was needed for 2 different groups of Israelite widows, the 12 apostles told the disciples to select 7 men from among them to oversee the situation. The 7 men were to be of good report, and full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom. Thus, Philip of Caesarea became 1 of the 7 deacons. Philip went to a city in Samaria, and proclaimed the good news of Jesus the Christ to the Ethiopian eunuch and administrator responsible for the treasure of Queen Candace of Ethiopia, and baptized the Ethiopian eunuch. The divinely inspired Scriptures of the Holy Bible reveal that the Spirit of the Lord carried Philip away to a different location. In Caesarea, Philip lived with his 4 maiden, prophesying daughters.-Genesis 11:26-35:29, 1 Chronicles 1:1-34, 2:1-17, 3:1-24, Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Acts 1:1-26, 6:1-28:31
