And Moses turned, and went down from the mount, and the two tables of the testimony were in his hand: the tables were written on both their sides; on the one side and on the other were they written. And the tables were the work of God, and the writing was the writing of God, graven upon the tables. And when Joshua heard the noise of the people as they shouted, he said unto Moses, There is a noise of war in the camp. And he said, It is not the voice of them that shout for mastery, neither is it the voice of them that cry for being overcome: but the noise of them that sing do I hear. And it came to pass, as soon as he came nigh unto the camp, that he saw the calf, and the dancing: and Moses' anger waxed hot, and he cast the tables out of his hands, and brake them beneath the mount. And he took the calf which they had made, and burnt it in the fire, and ground it to powder, and strawed it upon the water, and made the children of Israel drink of it.-Exodus 32:15-20***In the desert wilderness of Sinai, the Israelites saw Moses go upon Mount Sinai to be with the Lord God at least 2 times before Moses was upon Mount Sinai for a lengthier stay with the Lord God. After both previous visits, Moses told the Israelites everything that the Lord God commanded him to say, and Moses consecrated his fellow Israelites, and the Israelites washed their clothes. Shortly thereafter, the Lord God descended upon Mount Sinai in fire, and the Israelites heard the voice of the Lord God proclaim the Ten Commandments to them. When Moses was upon Mount Sinai with the Lord God for a long while, the Israelites thought they might have been abandoned and told Moses' older brother Aaron to create gods for them to follow. The calf Aaron created with the gold earrings the Israelites gave him was destroyed by Moses after Moses came down from Mount Sinai, and threw the golden calf into the fire, ground it up, and scattered its particles onto the nearby stream. During the 40th year of their journey to Canaan, the Promised Land, Aaron died and was buried upon Mount Hor, and Moses went upon Mount Nebo. The Lord God showed Moses the Promised Land, and Moses died and was divinely buried. Joshua, Moses' successor, led the Israelites across the divinely parted Jordan River and onto the land that the Lord God promised to give to Abraham (Abram the Hebrew), and to Abraham's son Isaac, and to Isaac's youngest fraternal twin son Jacob (Israel) and to their descendants. Over 1,300 years after Joshua died and was buried in his tribe's portion of the Promised Land, Jesus the Christ, the Son of God, was born.
