...................................................................LET US LEARN TOGETHER WHAT IS GOOD. Job 34:4b(NIV)................................................................Some people see the Bible as a long and boring book filled with incidents and events from the lives of ancient people who probably never existed. The biblical stories are seen as fables. Romans 15:4 (KJV) reveals: For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope. In this blog, many of the situations and conversations found in the divinely inspired Scriptures of the Holy Bible have been placed in categories that correspond to expressive sayings and phrases. Reference information, background information and links connecting the people and places are given to help you find a place to begin reading the Bible for yourself.

Sounds Like a Plan

Tamar

And it came to pass after this, that Absalom the son of David had a fair sister, whose name was Tamar; and Amnon the son of David loved her. And Amnon was so vexed, that he fell sick for his sister Tamar; for she was a virgin; and Amnon thought it hard for him to do any thing to her.
But Amnon had a friend, whose name was Jonadab, the son of Shimeah David's brother: and Jonadab was a very subtil man. And he said unto him, Why art thou, being the king's son, lean from day to day? wilt thou not tell me? And Amnon said unto him, I love Tamar, my brother Absalom's sister. And Jonadab said unto him, Lay thee down on thy bed, and make thyself sick: and when thy father cometh to see thee, say unto him, I pray thee, let my sister Tamar come, and give me meat, and dress the meat in my sight, that I may see it, and eat it at her hand. So Amnon lay down, and made himself sick: and when the king was come to see him, Amnon said unto the king, I pray thee, let Tamar my sister come, and make me a couple of cakes in my sight, that I may eat at her hand.
-2 Samuel 13:1-6***Tamar and Absalom were born to King David and Maacah. Amnon was born to David and Ahinoam. David was the 2nd king to rule over all of the Israelites in the Promised Land, the land that the Lord God promised to give to Abraham (Abram the Hebrew), and to Abraham's son Isaac, and to Isaac's youngest fraternal twin son Jacob (Israel), and to their descendants. Maacah was a princess from Geshur, Syria (Aram). Ahinoam was from Jezreel, in the portion of the Promised Land allotted to the tribe of Judah, the birth tribe of David and his descendants. Amnon and Absalom were born during the 7 1/2 years that David reigned as king in Hebron only over the tribe of Judah. When David was ruling over all of the Israelites, Amnon raped Tamar. Two years thereafter, Absalom's men obeyed Absalom and killed Amnon, and Absalom escaped to Geshur. Absalom's cousin Joab, the commander of the army, plotted to reunite David and Absalom, and David gave Joab permission to bring Absalom back to the kingdom. The divinely inspired Scriptures of the Holy Bible reveal that at least 900 years earlier Judah was born to Jacob and his 1st wife Leah. Er, Onan and Shelah were born to Judah and his wife, a Canaanite woman. Er became the 1st husband of Tamar, a woman from Timnah (Timnath). After the Lord God caused Er to die, Onan became Tamar's 2nd husband. After the Lord God caused Onan to die, Judah told Tamar to live as a widow at her father's house until Shelah was an adult. The custom during that era meant that Shelah was to become Tamar's husband.  Unknowingly, Judah engaged in physical intimacy with Tamar, and twin sons Pharez and Zarah (Perez and Zerah) were born to Judah and Tamar. At least 900 years after Absalom's 3 sons and daughter Tamar were born, Jesus the Christ, the Son of God, was conceived of the Holy Spirit in the womb of Mary, a virgin, and Jesus was born into the tribe of Judah to Mary and her husband Joseph when Mary was a virgin.-Genesis 11:26-50:26, Exodus, Numbers 20:1-29, 27:12-23, Deuteronomy 31:1-30, 32:44-52, 34:1-12, Joshua 1:1-4:24, 23:1-24:33, Judges 1:1-2:23, Ruth, 1 Samuel 1:1-3:21, 8:1-31:13, 2 Samuel, 1 Kings 1:1-2:12, 1 Chronicles 1:1-34, 2:1-17, 3:1-24, 10:1-29:30, Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Acts 1:1-26

Yet and Still

King Jotham

Jotham was twenty and five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem. His mother's name also was Jerushah, the daughter of Zadok.
And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his father Uzziah did: howbeit he entered not into the temple of the LORD. And the people did yet corruptly. He built the high gate of the house of the LORD, and on the wall of Ophel he built much. Moreover he built cities in the mountains of Judah, and in the forests he built castles and towers. He fought also with the king of the Ammonites, and prevailed against them. And the children of Ammon gave him the same year an hundred talents of silver, and ten thousand measures of wheat, and ten thousand of barley. So much did the children of Ammon pay unto him, both the second year, and the third. So Jotham became mighty, because he prepared his ways before the LORD his God. Now the rest of the acts of Jotham, and all his wars, and high ways, lo, they are written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah. He was five and twenty years old when he began to reign, and reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem. And Jotham slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David: and Ahaz his son reigned in his stead
.-2 Chronicles 27:1-9/the complete chapter***King Amaziah was the 8th king to rule Judah, the southern nation in the Promised Land. Uzziah (Azariah) was born to Amaziah and Jecholiah. Amaziah was murdered when Uzziah was 16 years old, and the Israelites appointed Uzziah to reign as king. During his 52-year reign in Jerusalem, the royal city, Uzziah built towers in Judah, and cities in Philistine territories, and dug wells, established farmlands, recaptured and restrengthened Eloth (Elath), and  strengthened the army, and went with his forces to the battlefields, gathered weapons, had devices of weaponry made and placed in Judah, and received offerings of tribute from the Ammonites. Yet, Uzziah did not destroy the high places, the elevated sites of worship that were established during the reigns of other kings, including kings who reigned before Joshua led the Israelites across the divinely parted Jordan River and onto the Promised Land. The divinely inspired Scriptures of the Holy Bible reveal the commands that the Lord God gave Moses for the Israelites, including commands about high places in the Promised Land and commands about the duties of the priests and burning incense. Uzziah entered the temple of the Lord to burn incense upon the altar of incense. Azariah the priest and 80 priests with Azariah stopped Uzziah's actions. The Lord God struck Uzziah with leprosy and the priests rushed Uzziah out of the temple. Afterwards, Uzziah lived with leprosy in a place separate from the royal palace. Jotham, the son born to Uzziah and Jerushah, was the 10th king to rule Judah. Extensive building projects occurred throughout Judah during Jotham's 16-year reign, and Jotham received substantial funds from the Ammonites. Jotham did not enter the temple of the Lord for the purpose of burning incense upon the altar, and did not destroy the high places. Over 700 years after Jotham's son Ahaz became the 11th king to rule Judah, Jesus the Christ, the Son of God, was born. Jesus was conceived of the Holy Spirit in the womb of Mary, a virgin, and Jesus was born into the tribe of Judah, the tribe of Judah's kings, to Mary and her husband Joseph when Mary was a virgin.-Genesis 11:26-50:26, Exodus, Numbers 20:1-29, 27:12-23, Deuteronomy 31:1-30, 32:44-52, 34:1-12, Joshua 1:1-4:24, 23:1-24:33, Judges 1:1-2:23, 1 Samuel, 2 Samuel, 1 Kings, 2 Kings, 1 Chronicles 1:1-34, 2:1-17, 3:1-24, 10:1-29:30, 2 Chronicles, Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Acts 1:1-26

Do the Do's

Judgments that the Lord God gave Moses for the
Israelites, months after Moses and Moses' older
brother Aaron led their fellow Israelites away
from Egyptian slavery, across the divinely
parted Red Sea, and into the desert
wilderness of Shur:

 Exodus Chapter 21

1.Now these are the judgments which thou shalt set before them.

2.If thou buy an Hebrew servant, six years he shall serve: and in the seventh he shall go out free for nothing.
3.If he came in by himself, he shall go out by himself: if he were married, then his wife shall go out with him.
4.If his master have given him a wife, and she have born him sons or daughters; the wife and her children shall be her master's, and he shall go out by himself.
5.And if the servant shall plainly say, I love my master, my wife, and my children; I will not go out free:
6.Then his master shall bring him unto the judges; he shall also bring him to the door, or unto the door post; and his master shall bore his ear through with an aul; and he shall serve him for ever.

7.And if a man sell his daughter to be a maidservant, she shall not go out as the menservants do.
8.If she please not her master, who hath betrothed her to himself, then shall he let her be redeemed: to sell her unto a strange nation he shall have no power; seeing he hath dealt deceitfully with her.
9.And if he have betrothed her unto his son, he shall deal with her after the manner of daughters.
10.If he take him another wife; her food, her raiment, and her duty of marriage, shall he not diminish.
11.And if he do not these three unto her, then shall she go out free without money.

12.He that smiteth a man, so that he die, shall be surely put to death.
13.And if a man lie not in wait, but God deliver him into his hand; then I will appoint thee a place whither he shall flee.
14.But if a man come presumptuously upon his neighbour, to slay him with guile; thou shalt take him from mine altar, that he may die.

15.And he that smiteth his father, or his mother, shall be surely put to death.

16.And he that stealeth a man, and selleth him, or if he be found in his hand, he shall surely be put to death.

17.And he that curseth his father, or his mother, shall surely be put to death.

18.And if men strive together, and one smite another with a stone, or with his fist, and he die not, but keepeth his bed:
19.If he rise again, and walk abroad upon his staff, then shall he that smote him be quit: only he shall pay for the loss of his time, and shall cause him to be thoroughly healed.

20.And if a man smite his servant, or his maid, with a rod, and he die under his hand; he shall be surely punished.
21.Notwithstanding, if he continue a day or two, he shall not be punished: for he is his money.

22.If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman's husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine.
23.And if any mischief follow, then thou shalt give life for life,
24.eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot,
25.burning for burning, wound for wound, stripe for stripe.

26.And if a man smite the eye of his servant, or the eye of his maid, that it perish; he shall let him go free for his eye's sake.
27.And if he smite out his manservant's tooth, or his maidservant's tooth; he shall let him go free for his tooth's sake.

28.If an ox gore a man or a woman, that they die: then the ox shall be surely stoned, and his flesh shall not be eaten; but the owner of the ox shall be quit.
29.But if the ox were wont to push with his horn in time past, and it hath been testified to his owner, and he hath not kept him in, but that he hath killed a man or a woman; the ox shall be stoned, and his owner also shall be put to death.
30.If there be laid on him a sum of money, then he shall give for the ransom of his life whatsoever is laid upon him.
31.Whether he have gored a son, or have gored a daughter, according to this judgment shall it be done unto him.

32.If the ox shall push a manservant or a maidservant; he shall give unto their master thirty shekels of silver, and the ox shall be stoned.

33.And if a man shall open a pit, or if a man shall dig a pit, and not cover it, and an ox or an ass fall therein;

34.The owner of the pit shall make it good, and give money unto the owner of them; and the dead beast shall be his.
35.And if one man's ox hurt another's, that he die; then they shall sell the live ox, and divide the money of it; and the dead ox also they shall divide.
36.Or if it be known that the ox hath used to push in time past, and his owner hath not kept him in; he shall surely pay ox for ox; and the dead shall be his own.

Understand, Man

Then came to Jesus scribes and Pharisees, which were of Jerusalem, saying, Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? for they wash not their hands when they eat bread. But he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition? For God commanded, saying, Honour thy father and mother: and, He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death. But ye say, Whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, It is a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; and honour not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition. Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying, This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. And he called the multitude, and said unto them, Hear, and understand: Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man. Then came his disciples, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the Pharisees were offended, after they heard this saying? But he answered and said, Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up. Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch. Then answered Peter and said unto him, Declare unto us this parable. And Jesus said, Are ye also yet without understanding? Do not ye yet understand, that whatsoever entereth in at the mouth goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught? But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man. For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies: these are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man.-Matthew 15:1-20***Approximately 1,900 years after Benjamin was born near Bethlehem to Jacob (Israel) and his 2nd wife Rachel, and Rachel died, John the Baptist and Jesus the Christ, the Son of God, were born. John the Baptist was born into the tribe of Levi to Zechariah (Zacharias) the priest and his wife Elizabeth (Elisabeth), Israelites descended from Jacob and his 1st wife Leah, and Jacob and Leah's 3rd born son Levi. Jesus the Christ was conceived of the Holy Spirit in the womb of Elizabeth's relative Mary, a virgin, and Jesus was born in Bethlehem into the tribe of Jacob and Leah's 4th born son Judah to Mary and her husband Joseph when Mary was a virgin. Approximately 30 years after John the Baptist and Jesus the Christ were born, Jesus was baptized in the Jordan River by John the Baptist. Jesus having prayed, the heavens tearing open, the Holy Spirit descended as a dove and lit upon Jesus. The Lord God in heaven audibly acknowledged his Son Jesus, and the Holy Spirit led Jesus into the desert wilderness. Jesus fasted 40 days and nights and was tempted. Afterwards, Jesus was tended to by angels, and Jesus went to the area near John the Baptist, and John the Baptist proclaimed Jesus to be the Lamb of God taking away the sin of the world, and testified that Jesus is the Son of God. In Galilee, Jesus told specific Israelite men to follow him, and Jesus began to preach, teach and perform miracles among the Israelites. The divinely inspired Scriptures of the Holy Bible reveal that Jesus used parables, and the Ten Commandments, and some of the words proclaimed by the prophets of the Lord God to reveal messages. A group of scribes and Pharisees spoke to Jesus about the disciples who accompanied Jesus, and Jesus asked the scribes and Pharisees about the tradition they permitted whereby adult children told their needy parents that the funds they might have used to help the parents financially had already been vowed as an offering and could not be given to help the parents. The tradition kept adult children free from fulfilling a parent's request for support.-Genesis 11:26-50:26, Exodus, Numbers 20:1-29, 27:12-23, Deuteronomy 31:1-30, 32:44-52, 34:1-12, Joshua 1:1-4:24, 1 Chronicles 1:1-34, 2:1-17, 3:1-24, Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Acts 1:1-26

They're Going to Get It

Psalm 11

In the LORD put I my trust: how say ye to my soul, Flee as a bird to your mountain? For, lo, the wicked bend their bow, they make ready their arrow upon the string, that they may privily shoot at the upright in heart. If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do? The LORD is in his holy temple, the LORD's throne is in heaven: his eyes behold, his eyelids try, the children of men. The LORD trieth the righteous: but the wicked and him that loveth violence his soul hateth. Upon the wicked he shall rain snares, fire and brimstone, and an horrible tempest: this shall be the portion of their cup. For the righteous LORD loveth righteousness; his countenance doth behold the upright.-Psalm 11:1-7/the complete psalm

The Lord God Himself

From a letter written by the apostle Paul
with Silvanus (Silas) and Timotheus (Timothy),
to believers in Thessalonica:

But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth: whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle. Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace, comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work.-2 Thessalonians 2:13-17***The apostle Paul (Saul) journeyed and wrote divinely inspired letters, teaching the good news of Jesus the Christ, the Son of God, to Israelites and Gentiles, people not born into the Israelite tribes. Paul was from the tribe of Benjamin, descended from Jacob and his 2nd wife Rachel, and Jacob and Rachel's 2nd and last son Benjamin. Approximately 1,900 years after Benjamin was born and Rachel died, Jesus the Christ and John the Baptist were born. John the Baptist was born into the tribe of Levi to Zechariah (Zacharias) the priest and his wife Elizabeth (Elisabeth), descendants of Jacob and his 1st wife Leah, and Jacob and Leah's 3rd born son Levi. Jesus the Christ was conceived of the Holy Spirit in the womb of Elizabeth's relative Mary, a virgin, and Jesus was born intso the tribe of Jacob and Leah's 4th born son Judah to Mary and her husband Joseph when Mary was a virgin. In Galilee, Jesus told specific Israelite men to follow him, and Jesus began to preach, teach and perform miracles among the Israelites, the treasured and chosen people of the Lord God. Less than 3 1/2 years after Jesus was baptized, Jesus was betrayed by Judas Iscariot the disciple and apostle, and Jesus was arrested, crucified, buried in a tomb, resurrected, and returned to heaven.  Paul was a Pharisee and did not believe Jesus to be the Christ. Throughout Jerusalem, Paul persecuted and imprisoned  Israelites who believed Jesus to be the Christ of God. When Paul was journeying to the synagogues in Damascus, Syria, to find, bind and take to Jerusalem any Israelite believers he found, Paul and those with him saw a light from heaven flash around them. Paul heard the voice of Jesus speaking to him, and Paul spoke to Jesus and obeyed Jesus. In Damascus Paul was baptized. Paul journeyed with Silas, who was later beaten and imprisoned with Paul when they were in Jerusalem. After Paul met Timothy (Timotheus) in Lystra, and circumcised Timothy, Paul and Timothy began journeying together. Some of the people Paul journeyed with, or who helped Paul throughout his journeys, were mentioned by Paul in his letters or in his prayers. All of the people affectionately mentioned by Paul believed Jesus to be the Christ, the Son of the living God. In a letter to believers in Ephesus, and in a letter to believers in Thessalonica, Paul revealed a message about everyone who believes the truth of Christ Jesus.-Genesis 1:1-35:29, 1 Chronicles 1:1-34, 2:1-17, 3:1-24, 8:1-40, Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Acts 1:1-26, 6:1-8:4, 9:1-31, 11:19-28:31, Romans, 1 Corinthians, 2 Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, 1 Thessalonians, 2 Thessalonians, 1 Timothy, 2 Timothy, Titus, Philemon

From This and This to This

FROM THIS:

And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, Speak unto the children of Israel, and bid them that they make them fringes in the borders of their garments throughout their generations, and that they put upon the fringe of the borders a ribband of blue: and it shall be unto you for a fringe, that ye may look upon it, and remember all the commandments of the LORD, and do them; and that ye seek not after your own heart and your own eyes, after which ye use to go a whoring: that ye may remember, and do all my commandments, and be holy unto your God. I am the LORD your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: I am the LORD your God.-Numbers 15:37-41

and THIS

Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: and thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: and thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes. And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.-Deuteronomy 6:4-9

                                             TO THIS:

Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD: but this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel;
After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people. And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.-Jeremiah 31:31-34
