Elisha the prophet
and King Joash (Jehoash)
Now Elisha was fallen sick of his sickness whereof he died. And Joash the king of Israel came down unto him, and wept over his face, and said, O my father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and the horsemen thereof. And Elisha said unto him, Take bow and arrows. And he took unto him bow and arrows. And he said to the king of Israel, Put thine hand upon the bow. And he put his hand upon it: and Elisha put his hands upon the king's hands. And he said, Open the window eastward. And he opened it. Then Elisha said, Shoot. And he shot. And he said, The arrow of the LORD's deliverance, and the arrow of deliverance from Syria: for thou shalt smite the Syrians in Aphek, till thou have consumed them. And he said, Take the arrows. And he took them. And he said unto the king of Israel, Smite upon the ground. And he smote thrice, and stayed. And the man of God was wroth with him, and said, Thou shouldest have smitten five or six times; then hadst thou smitten Syria till thou hadst consumed it: whereas now thou shalt smite Syria but thrice. And Elisha died, and they buried him. And the bands of the Moabites invaded the land at the coming in of the year. And it came to pass, as they were burying a man, that, behold, they spied a band of men; and they cast the man into the sepulchre of Elisha: and when the man was let down, and touched the bones of Elisha, he revived, and stood up on his feet. But Hazael king of Syria oppressed Israel all the days of Jehoahaz. And the LORD was gracious unto them, and had compassion on them, and had respect unto them, because of his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and would not destroy them, neither cast he them from his presence as yet. So Hazael king of Syria died; and Ben-hadad his son reigned in his stead. And Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz took again out of the hand of Ben-hadad the son of Hazael the cities, which he had taken out of the hand of Jehoahaz his father by war. Three times did Joash beat him, and recovered the cities of Israel.-2 Kings 13:14-25***Elisha the prophet and King Joash (Jehoash) were Israelites descended from Noah the ark builder, Noah's son Shem, Shem's son Arphaxad, Arphaxad's great-great-great-great-great-grandson Terah, Terah's children Abraham (Abram the Hebrew) and Sarah (Sarai), their son Isaac and his wife Rebekah, and Isaac and Rebekah's youngest fraternal twin son Jacob (Israel). Jacob's wives Leah and Rachel were the daughters of Rebekah's brother Laban the Syrian (Aramean). Shem's son Aram was the forefather of the Arameans. Laban and Rebekah were born to Bethuel the Syrian (Aramean). Bethuel was born to Terah's son Nahor (Nachor) and Nahor's wife Milcah. Milcah and Lot were born to Terah's son Haran. The Moabites descended from Lot and Lot's oldest daughter and their son Moab. In Padan Aram, Haran, Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Zebulun, and daughter Dinah were born to Jacob and Leah. Dan and Naphtali were born to Jacob and Bilhah, Rachel's maidservant. Gad and Asher were born to Jacob and Zilpah, Leah's maidservant. Joseph was the 1st son born to Jacob and Rachel, and Rachel and Joseph were Jacob's favorites. During Jacob's 20th year in Haran, he began journeying home to Canaan with his family, servants, animals, and possessions. Near Bethlehem, Benjamin was born to Jacob and Rachel, and Rachel died. Joseph was 17 years old when his brothers sold him to merchants traveling to Egypt and led Jacob to believe that Joseph was killed by a wild beast, and Joseph was 30 years old when Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, proclaimed him second-in-command. Noah's son Ham, and Ham's son Mizraim were the forefathers of the Egyptians. Jacob was 130 years old when he moved with his family from Canaan to Egypt. In Egypt, Jacob proclaimed Manasseh and Ephraim, the sons born to Joseph and his wife Asenath, to be his own sons, and the tribe of Joseph became the tribe of Manasseh and the tribe of Ephraim. Sometime after 147-year-old Jacob died in Egypt, and Jacob's family buried his body in Canaan, and 110-year-old Joseph and his siblings were dead, the Israelites were enslaved in Egypt. Miriam and her younger brothers Aaron and Moses were born into the tribe of Levi to Amram and Jochebed. Moses was 80 years old and Aaron was 83 when they led the Israelites away from Egypt, across the divinely parted Red Sea, into the desert wilderness of Shur, and the desert wilderness of Sin, and the desert wilderness of Sinai, according to the commands of the Lord God. During the 40-year journey to Canaan, the Promised Land, Miriam the prophetess died and was buried in Kadesh, in the desert wilderness of Zin. Upon Mount Hor, 123-year-old Aaron the high priest died. When Moses went upon Mount Nebo, the Lord God showed Moses the Promised Land, and 120-year-old Moses the prophet died, and was divinely buried. Joshua, Moses' aide and successor from the tribe of Ephraim, led the Israelites across the divinely parted Jordan River and onto the land that the Lord God promised to give to Abraham, and Isaac, and to Jacob, and their descendants. Over 300 years after 110-year-old Joshua died, and was buried in his tribe's portion of the Promised Land, Saul, from the tribe of Benjamin, became the 1st king to reign. David, from the tribe of Judah, was the 2nd king to rule over all of the Israelites. David defeated the Syrians (Arameans) at least 3 times, and stationed officers in Damascus, Syria, and the Syrians in Damascus were compelled to make obligatory payments. Before 70-year-old David died, Solomon, a son born to David and Bathsheba, became the 3rd king. During the 4th year of his 40-year reign, Solomon began building the temple of the Lord, and in the 11th year, workers finished building the temple in Jerusalem. Solomon entered into a horse trading business with the Egyptians, and the Syrians purchased horses from Solomon. Rehoboam, the son born to Solomon and Naamah, was the 4th king to rule over all of the Israelites. After Rehoboam gave a specific answer, the Israelites split into 2 kingdoms, according to the will of the Lord God, due to the idolatry and other wickedness of Solomon. Judah was the nation in the south, Jerusalem was the royal city and Rehoboam was the 1st king to reign. Israel was the northern nation, Shechem served as the royal city, and Jeroboam, the son born to Nebat and Zeruah, was the 1st king to reign. Jeroboam established idolatry and his own system of priests throughout the kingdom. Jeroboam's son Nadab was the 2nd king to rule the northern nation of Israel. Baasha killed Nadab and became the 3rd king to rule the northern nation of Israel. Rehoboam's son Abijam (Abijah) was the 2nd king to rule Judah, and Abijam's son Asa was the 3rd king. During his 41-year reign, Asa gave silver and gold from the temple and the royal palace to Ben-hadad, ruler of Syria, with a request for help against Baasha. Ben-hadad's army attacked several cities in the northern nation of Israel, including all of the Promised Land allotted to the tribe of Naphtali. Baasha's son Elah was the 4th king to rule the northern nation of Israel. Commander Zimri killed Elah and became the 5th king to rule the northern nation of Israel. Zimri reigned 7 days before the Israelites appointed Omri, another commander, as king, and went with Omri and surrounded Tirzah, the royal city. Zimri went into the palace and set fire to the building and died in the fire. A division arose among the Israelites, with 1/2 of them following Omri and the other 1/2 following Tibni. After Tibni's death, Omri became the 6th king to rule over all of the Israelites in the northern nation of Israel, and Samaria became the final royal city. Omri's son Ahab was the 7th king to rule over all of the Israelites in the northern nation of Israel. Ahab's wife Jezebel was a Sidonian (Zidonian) princess descended from Ham's son Canaan and Canaan's firstborn son Sidon (Zidon). During Ahab's 22-year reign, Elijah the prophet began proclaiming the words of the Lord God to the Israelites. Upon Mount Carmel, Elijah challenged Jezebel's false prophets and the Israelites. Amid the Kishon Valley, Elijah put Jezebel's false prophets to death. Ahab reported the incidents to Jezebel, and Jezebel made a vow, and Elijah received a message from Jezebel, and bolted to Judah, and twice received and obeyed the instructions of an angel of the Lord. When Elijah was upon Mount Horeb (Sinai), the mountain of God, he experienced a divine encounter and heard the voice of the Lord God speaking to him. Elijah answered the Lord God, and the Lord God told Elijah to anoint Hazael to reign as king over Syria (Aram), and anoint army commander Jehu to reign as king over the northern nation of Israel, and anoint Elisha as Elijah's successor. Jehoshaphat, the son born to Asa and Azubah, was the 4th king to rule Judah. When Ahab and Jehoshaphat were battling the Syrians (Arameans), Jehoshaphat cried out, and the Lord God diverted the Syrians away from Jehoshaphat, and Ahab was killed. Ahab and Jezebel's son Ahaziah became the 8th king to reign, and Ahaziah's brother Jehoram (Joram) was the 9th king to rule over all of the Israelites in the northern nation of Israel. At the Jordan River, Elisha saw a chariot of fire and horses of fire and watched as Elijah went up in the whirlwind into the heavens. Elisha sent a young prophet to anoint Jehu to reign as king, and Jehu killed Jehoram, and Ahaziah was wounded and died, and Jezebel was killed, and Ahab's 70 descendants were beheaded, and Ahab's associates and priests were put to death, and 42 of Ahaziah's relatives were killed. Jehu became an idolater and died in the 28th year of his reign, and Jehu's son Jehoahaz became the 11th king to rule over all of the Israelites in the northern nation of Israel. Jehoahaz was an idolater, and the Lord God delivered the kingdom into the hands of Hazael and Hazael's son and successor Ben-hadad. Jehoahaz pleaded to the Lord God, and the Lord God gave the Israelites a deliverer, and the Israelites continued worshiping idols. At least 800 years after Hazael killed Ben-had and began to rule Syria, and Jehoahaz's son Jehoash (Joash) became the 12th king to rule over all of the Israelites in the northern nation of Israel and recaptured cities previously taken by the Syrians, John the Baptist and Jesus the Christ, the Son of God, were born. John the Baptist was born into the tribe of Levi to Zechariah (Zacharias) the priest and his wife Elizabeth (Elisabeth). Jesus the Christ was conceived of the Holy Spirit in the womb of Elizabeth's relative Mary, a virgin, and Jesus was born in Bethlehem into the tribe of Judah, the tribe of Judah's kings, to Mary and her husband Joseph when Mary was a virgin. On the 8th day after John the Baptist was born, he was circumcised, and on the 8th day after Jesus the Christ was born, Jesus was circumcised, according to the covenant of circumcision that the Lord God gave Abraham. During the 12th year after John the Baptist and Jesus the Christ were born, Joseph and Mary found Jesus in the temple in Jerusalem, listening, asking, understanding, and answering. Approximately 30 years after John the Baptist and Jesus the Christ were born, Jesus was baptized in the Jordan River by John the Baptist. Jesus having prayed, the heavens tearing open, the Holy Spirit descended as a dove and lit upon Jesus. The Lord God in heaven audibly acknowledged his Son Jesus, and the Holy Spirit led Jesus into the desert wilderness. Jesus fasted 40 days and nights and was tempted. Afterwards, Jesus was tended to by angels, and Jesus went to the area near John the Baptist, and John the Baptist proclaimed Jesus to be the Lamb of God taking away the sin of the world, and testified that Jesus is the Son of God. In Galilee, Jesus told specific Israelite men to follow him, and Jesus began to preach, teach and perform miracles among the Israelites. Throughout Syria, people heard about Jesus the Christ.
