And it was told king David, saying, The LORD hath blessed the house of Obed-edom, and all that pertaineth unto him, because of the ark of God. So David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obed-edom into the city of David with gladness. And it was so, that when they that bare the ark of the LORD had gone six paces, he sacrificed oxen and fatlings. And David danced before the LORD with all his might; and David was girded with a linen ephod. So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the LORD with shouting, and with the sound of the trumpet. And as the ark of the LORD came into the city of David, Michal Saul's daughter looked through a window, and saw king David leaping and dancing before the LORD; and she despised him in her heart. And they brought in the ark of the LORD, and set it in his place, in the midst of the tabernacle that David had pitched for it: and David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the LORD. And as soon as David had made an end of offering burnt offerings and peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the LORD of hosts. And he dealt among all the people, even among the whole multitude of Israel, as well to the women as men, to every one a cake of bread, and a good piece of flesh, and a flagon on wine. So all the people departed every one to his house. Then David returned to bless his household. And Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David, and said, How glorious was the king of Israel to day, who uncovered himself to day in the eyes of the handmaids of his servants, as one of the vain fellows shamelessly uncovereth himself! And David said unto Michal, It was before the LORD, which chose me before thy father, and before all his house, to appoint me ruler over the people of the LORD, over Israel: therefore will I play before the LORD. And I will yet be more vile than thus, and will be base in mine own sight: and of the maidservants which thou hast spoken of, of them shall I be had in honour. Therefore Michal the daughter of Saul had no child unto the day of her death.-2 Samuel 6:12-23***Michal was a princess, the daughter of King Saul, before she became the wife of David. Before David married Michal, David worked as a shepherd for his father Jesse, and was anointed by Samuel the priest, prophet and judge to reign as king, and served as a musician and an armor-bearer for Saul, and killed Goliath the gigantic Philistine, and made a covenant with Jonathan, Saul's son and Michal's brother. After Saul heard the Israelite women sing of David higher in a song than they sang of him, Saul was angry, and became afraid, and wanted to kill David. Moreover, Saul wanted others, including Jonathan, to kill David. Michal helped David escape from their home, keeping David from being captured by Saul's men. Sometime thereafter, Saul gave Michal in marriage to Palti (Phalti/Paltiel/Phaltiel). After Saul's self-inflicted death on the battlefield, men from the tribe of Judah, the tribe of David's birth, anointed 30-year-old David and he began to reign only over the tribe of Judah. Saul's cousin and army commander Abner set Saul's son Ishbosheth (Eshbaal) as king over the other Israelite tribes. After Ishbosheth asked Abner an accusatory question, Abner proclaimed his loyalty to David. Before David accepted Abner, David demanded that Michal be brought to him. After Ishbosheth was murdered, the Israelite elders went to David and David made a covenant with them. The elders anointed David, and 37 1/2-year-old David became the 2nd king to reign over all of the Israelites in the Promised Land. David established the City of David and decided to bring the ark of the covenant of the Lord from the home of Abinadab. The ark had been in Abinadab's home after its return by the Philistines, who had taken the ark during a battle 20 years earlier. After David's 1st attempt ended with the ark of the covenant being placed in the home of Obed-edom for 3 months, David and his fellow Israelites successfully brought the ark of the covenant of the Lord to the City of David. Solomon, the 2nd son born to David and Bathsheba, was the 3rd king to reign over all of the Israelites. In the 4th year of Solomon's 40-year reign, Solomon began building the temple of the Lord. In the 11th year, the builders finished building the temple in Jerusalem, and the ark of the covenant of the Lord was placed in the Most Holy Place inside the temple. Over 900 years after Rehoboam, the son born to Solomon and Naamah, became the 4th king to reign over all of the Israelites, Jesus the Christ, the Son of God, was born.
