Jehoiada the priest and King Joash (Jehoash)
And in the seventh year Jehoiada strengthened himself, and took the captains of hundreds, Azariah the son of Jeroham, and Ishmael the son of Jehohanan, and Azariah the son of Obed, and Maaseiah the son of Adaiah, and Elishaphat the son of Zichri, into covenant with him. And they went about in Judah, and gathered the Levites out of all the cities of Judah, and the chief of the fathers of Israel, and they came to Jerusalem. And all the congregation made a covenant with the king in the house of God. And he said unto them, Behold, the king's son shall reign, as the LORD hath said of the sons of David. This is the thing that ye shall do; A third part of you entering on the sabbath, of the priests and of the Levites, shall be porters of the doors; And a third part shall be at the king's house; and a third part at the gate of the foundation: and all the people shall be in the courts of the house of the LORD. But let none come into the house of the LORD, save the priests, and they that minister of the Levites; they shall go in, for they are holy: but all the people shall keep the watch of the LORD. And the Levites shall compass the king round about, every man with his weapons in his hand; and whosoever else cometh into the house, he shall be put to death: but be ye with the king when he cometh in, and when he goeth out. So the Levites and all Judah did according to all things that Jehoiada the priest had commanded, and took every man his men that were to come in on the sabbath, with them that were to go out on the sabbath: for Jehoiada the priest dismissed not the courses. Moreover Jehoiada the priest delivered to the captains of hundreds spears, and bucklers, and shields, that had been king David's, which were in the house of God. And he set all the people, every man having his weapon in his hand, from the right side of the temple to the left side of the temple, along by the altar and the temple, by the king round about. Then they brought out the king's son, and put upon him the crown, and gave him the testimony, and made him king. And Jehoiada and his sons anointed him, and said, God save the king.-2 Chronicles 23:1-11***The Lord God sent Samuel, the priest, prophet and judge from the tribe of Levi, to anoint Saul, from the tribe of Benjamin to reign as king over the Israelites in the Promised Land. Thus, Saul became the 1st Israelite to reign in the land that the Lord God promised to give to Abraham (Abram the Hebrew), and to Abraham's son Isaac, and to Isaac's youngest fraternal twin son Jacob (Israel), and to their descendants. After Saul disobeyed the commands of the Lord God, the Lord God rejected Saul and sent Samuel to anoint David, from the tribe of Judah, to reign as king. David was a shepherd, and began to serve as a musician and an armor-bearer for Saul, and killed Goliath the gigantic Philistine, and entered into a covenant with Jonathan, Saul's son, and married Saul's daughter Michal, and lived on the run from Saul. After Saul's self-inflicted death on the battlefield, men from the tribe of Judah anointed David, and 30-year-old David began to reign only over the tribe of Judah. Saul's son Ishbosheth (Eshbaal) reigned over the other Israelite tribes. After Ishbosheth was murdered, the Israelite elders went to David, and David made a covenant with them. The elders anointed David, and 37-year-old David became the 2nd king to reign over all of the Israelites. Solomon, the 2nd child born to David and Bathsheba, was the 3rd king to reign over all of the Israelites. Rehoboam, the son born to Solomon and Naamah, was the 4th king to reign. After Rehoboam gave a specific answer, the Israelites split into 2 kingdoms, according to the will of the Lord God, due to the idolatry and other wickedness of Solomon. Israel was the northern nation, Samaria was the final royal city and Jeroboam was the 1st king to reign. Idolaters and murderers always ruled the northern nation of Israel. Judah was the nation in the south, Jerusalem was the royal city and Rehoboam was the 1st king to reign. David's descendants continuously ruled Judah, except for the 6-year reign of Athaliah. King Omri, the 6th king to rule over all of the Israelites in the northern nation of Israel, was Athaliah's grandfather. Omri's son Ahab was the 7th king to rule the northern nation of Israel and Omri was Athaliah's father. Athaliah was married to Rehoboam's great-great-grandson King Joram (Jehoram), the 5th king to rule Judah. Joram and Athaliah's son Ahaziah was the 6th king to rule Judah. After Ahaziah was wounded and died, Athaliah put her royal descendants to death. However, Jehosheba (Jehoshabeath), Ahaziah's sister, grabbed Ahaziah's 1-year-old son Joash (Jehoash) and hid him and his nurse. Jehosheba's husband Jehoiada the priest secretly kept Joash in the temple of the Lord. When Joash was 7 years old and Jehoiada was over 80 years old, Jehoiada secretly worked to present Joash as the rightful ruler of Judah, and Joash became the 7th king to reign. Approximately 800 years after 130-year-old Jehoiada died and was buried amid the burial place of the kings in the City of David, Jesus the Christ, the Son of God, was born.
