And certain of the Pharisees said unto them, Why do ye that which is not lawful to do on the sabbath days? And Jesus answering them said, Have ye not read so much as this, what David did, when himself was an hungred, and they which were with him; How he went into the house of God, and did take and eat the shewbread, and gave also to them that were with him; which it is not lawful to eat but for the priests alone? And he said unto them, That the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath. And it came to pass also on another sabbath, that he entered into the synagogue and taught: and there was a man whose right hand was withered. And the scribes and Pharisees watched him, whether he would heal on the sabbath day; that they might find an accusation against him. But he knew their thoughts, and said to the man which had the withered hand, Rise up, and stand forth in the midst. And he arose and stood forth. Then said Jesus unto them, I will ask you one thing; Is it lawful on the sabbath days to do good, or to do evil? to save life, or to destroy it? And looking round about upon them all, he said unto the man, Stretch forth thy hand. And he did so: and his hand was restored whole as the other. And they were filled with madness; and communed one with another what they might do to Jesus.-Luke 6:1-11***Over 10 years after David was born into the tribe of Judah, the Lord God sent Samuel, the priest, prophet and judge from the tribe of Levi, to anoint David to reign as king. Meanwhile, Saul, the 1st king to reign over the Israelites in the Promised Land, was still reigning. Saul was from the tribe of Benjamin, descended from Abraham (Abram the Hebrew) and Sarah (Sarai), Isaac and Rebekah, Jacob (Israel) and his 2nd wife Rachel, and Jacob and Rachel's 2nd and last son Benjamin. Levi was the 3rd son born to Jacob and his 1st wife Leah, and Judah was Jacob and Leah's 4th born son. David initially served as a musician and an armor-bearer for Saul and continued working as a shepherd for his elderly father Jesse. After David killed and beheaded Goliath the gigantic Philistine, David stayed in Saul's service full time. Jonathan was Saul's son. David and Jonathan made a covenant. The Israelite women sang of David higher than they sang of Saul, and Saul was angry and became afraid of David. Saul wanted to kill David, and sent David on missions to get killed, and told others, including Jonathan, to kill David. Michal, Saul's youngest daughter, married David and helped David escape from their home. David went to Samuel, and Jonathan, and Nob, wherein was the tabernacle and Ahimelech the priest. David convinced Ahimelech to give him loaves of consecrated bread. Moreover, Ahimelech gave David the sword that had belonged to Goliath. When Saul learned about Ahimelech, the bread and sword, he commanded that Ahimelech and the other priests be killed. Doeg, an Edomite, a descendant of Jacob's older fraternal twin brother Esau (Edom) was responsible for killing the priests. The people and animals in Nob were also killed. After Jonathan and his brothers Abinadab and Malchishua were killed by the Philistines, and Saul's self-inflicted death on the same battlefield, men from the tribe of Judah anointed 30-year-old David, and David began to reign only over the tribe of Judah. Saul's son Ishboheth (Eshbaal) reigned over the other Israelite tribes. After Ishbosheth was murdered, the Israelite elders went to David and David made a covenant with them. The elders anointed David, and 37-year-old David began to reign over all of the Israelite tribes. Over 900 years after 70-year-old David died and Solomon, the 2nd child born to David and Bathsheba, became the 3rd king to reign over all of the Israelites, Jesus the Christ, the Son of God, was born. Jesus was conceived of the Holy Spirit in the womb of Mary, a virgin, and Jesus was born into the tribe of Judah to Mary and her husband Joseph when Mary was a virgin. Approximately 30 years after Jesus was born to Joseph and Mary, Jesus was baptized in the Jordan River by Mary's relative John the Baptist, from the tribe of Levi. Jesus having prayed, the heavens tearing open, the Holy Spirit descended as a dove and lit upon Jesus. The Lord God in heaven audibly acknowledged his Son Jesus, and the Holy Spirit led Jesus into the desert wilderness. Jesus fasted for 40 days and nights and was tempted. Afterwards, Jesus was tended to by angels, and Jesus went to the area near John the Baptist, and John the Baptist proclaimed Jesus to be the Lamb of God taking away the sin of the world. In Galilee, Jesus told specific Israelite men to follow him, and Jesus began to preach, teach and perform miracles among the Israelites, the treasured and chosen people of the Lord God. The Pharisees and scribes did not believe Jesus to be the Christ. Some other Israelites knew Jesus to be the Son of David. Less than 3 1/2 years after Jesus was baptized, Jesus was betrayed by Judas Iscariot, the disciple and apostle. Jesus was arrested, crucified, buried in a tomb, resurrected, seen by over 500 people, and returned to heaven.
