Now therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts; Consider your ways. Ye have sown much, and bring in little; ye eat, but ye have not enough; ye drink, but ye are not filled with drink; ye clothe you, but there is none warm; and he that earneth wages earneth wages to put it into a bag with holes.-Haggai 1:5-6
Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Consider your ways. Go up to the mountain, and bring wood, and build the house; and I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified, saith the LORD. Ye looked for much, and, lo it came to little; and when ye brought it home, I did blow upon it. Why? saith the LORD of hosts. Because of mine house that is waste, and ye run every man unto his own house. Therefore the heaven over you is stayed from dew, and the earth is stayed from her fruit. And I called for a drought upon the land, and upon the mountains, and upon the corn, and upon the new wine, and upon the oil, and upon that which the ground bringeth forth, and upon men, and upon cattle, and upon all the labour of the hands.-Haggai 1:7-11
Then Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, with all the remnant of the people, obeyed the voice of the LORD their God, and the words of Haggai the prophet, as the LORD their God had sent him, and the people did fear before the LORD. Then spake Haggai the LORD's messenger in the LORD's message unto the people, saying, I am with you, saith the LORD.-Haggai 1:12-13
Background Information:
When King Nebuchadnezzar was ruling Babylon, and King Jehoiakim (Eliakim) was in Jerusalem ruling Judah, the southern nation in the Promised Land, Nebuchadnezzar invaded Judah and Jerusalem and began looting the temple of the Lord. Jehoiakim was the great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-grandson of King Solomon. Solomon was the 3rd king to rule over all of the Israelites in the Promised Land. Rehoboam, the son born to Solomon and Naamah, was the 4th king to rule over all of the Israelites in the Promised Land, the land that the Lord God promised to give to Abraham (Abram the Hebrew), and to Abraham's son Isaac, and to Isaac's youngest fraternal twin son Jacob (Israel), and their descendants. After Rehoboam gave a specific answer, the Israelites split into 2 kingdoms, according to the will of the Lord God, due to the idolatry and other wickedness of Solomon. Judah was the nation in the south, Jerusalem was the royal city, and Rehoboam was the 1st king to reign. Israel was the northern nation, Samaria was the final royal city, and Jeroboam, the son born to Nebat and Zeruah, was the 1st king to reign. King Pekah was the 18th king to rule over all of the Israelites in the northern nation of Israel. During Pekah's 20-year reign, the Assyrians invaded the kingdom and King Tiglath-pileser, ruler of Assyria, began taking Israelites captive. During the 9th year of the reign of King Hoshea, the 19th king to rule the northern nation, the Assyrians conquered Samaria, according to the will of the Lord God, due to the idolatry and other wickedness of the Israelites. Less than 125 years after Samaria was conquered, Jehoiakim became the 17th king to rule Judah. Jehoiachin (Jeconiah/Coniah), the son born to Jehoiakim and Nehushta, was the 18th king to rule Judah. During Jehoiachin's 3-month reign, the Babylonians took more prominent Israelites, including Jehoiachin, his wives and mother, to Babylon. During the 11th year of the reign of Jehoiakim's brother Zedekiah (Mattaniah), the 19th king to rule Judah, the Babylonians conquered Jerusalem, according to the will of the Lord God, due to the idolatry and other wickedness of the Israelites. Before taking more Israelites, including Zedekiah, to Babylon, the Babylonians burned the temple and other buildings. Less than 70 years after Jerusalem was conquered, King Cyrus, ruler of the Persian Empire, defeated the Babylonians and allowed the Israelites to return to Judah and Jerusalem and build a temple. The Israelites built an altar in Jerusalem and sacrificed burnt offerings to the Lord God. The year after the altar was built, the Israelites began working to lay the foundation of the temple in Jerusalem. When the foundation was completely built, the Israelites offered praises and thanksgiving to the Lord God. Enemies of the Israelites succeeded with plans that kept the Israelites from building the temple, although the Israelites successfully built homes for themselves. Haggai and Zechariah, prophets of the Lord God, proclaimed divine messages to the Israelites. After Haggai proclaimed the words of the Lord God to Zerubbael and Jeshua (Joshua), the Israelites started working on the temple again. After a group of enemies sent a letter to King Darius, ruler of the Persian Empire, a search was conducted, Cyrus' decree was found, and Darius granted permission for the Israelites to resume building the temple. Over 500 years after the temple was built under the leadership of Zerubbabel and those with him, Jesus the Christ, the Son of God, was born. Jesus was conceived of the Holy Spirit in the womb of Mary, a virgin, and Jesus was born into the tribe of Jacob's 4th born son Judah, the tribe of Solomon and his descendants, all of Judah's kings, to Mary and her husband Joseph when Mary was a virgin. Before Jesus was born to Joseph and Mary, and after Jesus was betrayed, arrested, crucified, buried in a tomb, resurrected, seen by over 500 people, and returned to heaven less than 33 1/2 years after he was born, the Roman Empire was ruling the land whereupon the kingdoms of the Israelites previously stood.-Genesis 11:26-50:26, Exodus, Numbers 20:1-29, 27:12-23, Deuteronomy 31:1-30, 32:44-52, 34:1-12, Joshua 1:1-4:24 23:1-24:33, Judges 1:1-2:23, 1 Samuel 1:1-3:21, 8:1-31:13, 2 Samuel, 1 Kings, 2 Kings, 1 Chronicles 1:1-34, 2:1-17, 3:1-24, 10:1-29:30, 2 Chronicles, Ezra, Nehemiah, Haggai, Zechariah, Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Acts 1:1-26
